Little Bump - A Short Saga by JoJolenesBizarreAdventure

It's just a little bump. Little bumps will pass.
Lakshmi started her morning with a wrench to the back of the head. Definitely concussed, definitely not thinking straight, her feralist friends are nonetheless reliant on her to complete a supply run. Can she manage to complete the job without breaking down and asking someone green for help?
Something that strikes me about Jojolene's stories is a pretty significant reduction in the operational strength of the affini locally. In many stories, once the affini are in a place, that place is locked down - part of the plamptopticon, nobody's getting in or out without plampt surveillance, and the area is fundamentally not somewhere feral or rebel ships can even land without getting captured. In Jojolene's stories, this is not the case. Rebel ships frequently can visit affini-dominated areas for supply runs. It's an interesting shift that nonetheless fits beautifully with the overall vibe, and allows for very interesting character dynamics, such as in First Hit's Free, or, indeed, Little Bump.
The basic premise is adorable - a member of a rebel ship gets a concussion, and, in that confused, disoriented state, gets sent out to handle a supply pickup. Lost, confused, and more than a little little, she ends up reaching out to an affini for help. And the results are absolutely adorable.
It's just another really cute, sweet, adorable story by Jojolene, and one that, for personal reasons, I really appreciated. Give it a look!

Ace-friendly: show this to a sex-repulsed asexual and they might actually spontaneously combust.
Noteworthy tags: DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT
An Independent in a valley goes for walk to find an Affini to cuddle.
I am deceased! I am dead, and Lagnia has killed me.
You ever have one of those days where you start with a vague plan in mind, and then everything just goes sideways, then things get out of hand, and then things get even more out of hand, and by the end of it you're watching your entire life collapse around you and laughing at the wreckage you've made of everything dear to you, while also cumming your brains out all over the ashes of your former existence at the hands of possibly the single most deranged, fucked-up monster you've ever met?
Model Independent is like... okay. You know how there's a lot of really fucked-up kink scenes in Independent Establishment? Take them, boil them, distill them down into a fermented paste, then use that paste as lubricant on the unreasonably large flared object you intend to shove directly into your cranial cavity, and you'll roughly have the vibe of Model Independent. Yes, this analogy more or less completely got away from me, and I'm sorry. In my defense, I just finished Model Independent, roughly an hour after it was posted, and my brain is kinda fried from the experience.
So let me back off from the effusive praise to make something very clear: those tags are not fucking around. DEAD DOVE, DO NOT EAT. Unless you're into that kind of thing. Hell, by the midpoint of chapter 5, I wasn't 100% sure I was on board with how dark and fucked-up things had gotten. It's funny - I know Lagnia personally to an extent, and in general, she's just the most lovely, kind, caring, supportive ray of sunshine you'll ever meet. And then you look at her writing and it's like, "Ah yes, an independent getting raped and abused by every imaginable archetype of evil, predatory women (and several you probably can't imagine)". Good lord. To quote the author: "IT'S GOOD FOR GIRLS."
(Take the warning at the end of chapter 4 seriously, folks! Not that the whole fic isn't stupidly hot, but it's a particular kind of stupidly hot, and if that kind is not for you... Well.)
If I may offer one piece of advice here? When you want to read this story, take the time. Get comfortable. Plan to read it in one sitting. It's just that kind of story.
And hey, if you are the right kind of deranged, this fic will hit you like very few other stories have. This is Sol is Short for Solace if Solace was significantly more evil. This is all the sickest shit in Independence is Easy if the final chapter didn't pull the punch. This is like if the rape scene in Dancing to Her Rhythms was significantly filthier and also the foreseeable future for our main character. No, you know what this is? This is Sálo. The Marquis de Sade would be proud.
Fuck.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go looking for someone to cuddle me, and hope that my attempts go slightly better than the main character's. Holy shit.
Ace-Friendly: No mention of explicit sex, some nudity
Noteworthy tags: Conflict Avoidance
A very conflict-averse independent terran runs into two very pushy affini on an elevator. Unbeknownst to them, she took a class on affini languages, and she understands every word as they plot to kidnap and domesticate her.
Surely, she will be able to talk her way out, right?
Look, when she's right, she's right.
I have very little to add to that. If you are conflict-averse, read this story. If you have trouble actually saying "no" to things, read this story. If you like hot HDG stories, read this story. It's just damn good.
Lane is worried that their new owner won't accept their desires. They're too much, too off the beaten path, too dirty for even the Affini! But their Daddy can tell that they're hiding something, and he's done waiting for them to tell him of their own accord. It's time to take action.
This is a story about a floret who thinks her desires are too much for her affini daddy.
This is a story about a floret who is very very wrong.
This is a story about a floret who likes piss, perhaps a bit too much.
This is a story about how it got its new name and pronouns, as well as its new job. Both of these clauses involve piss.
If you're into hardcore degradation, piss play, dehumanization, piss play, latex, piss play, hypnosis, piss play, and piss play, buddy do I have the story for you.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom.
Beau and Bernard by sheepwave and Slylittleprincess
Published: April 2026
15k words (word count on AO3 is doubled due to femswap version), 4 chapters to date
Ace-Friendly: Not even a little bit, these men be fuckin'
Noteworthy Tags: Forcedfemboygirltwinkprincessification, Twink Death More Like Twink Necromancy
Independent terran Bernard has a type. Sweet, sensitive, forcefully feminized twinks. Strong powerful men like him, reduced into delicate boyprincesses. Naturally, he loves living in the Affini Compact, but still hasn't found his special someone.
One day, his affini therapist propositions him with an opportunity to live a surreal dream through the magic of digitization. A perfect copy of himself, turned into that perfect princess who he can bully and cherish in equal measure.
There’s just one problem when he wakes up after implantation. He’s the duplicate - and the original Bernard is very excited.
This story also contains a genderswap where Bernard is instead Bernice, a trans woman, and the listed wordcount is therefore double the actual wordcount.
"Say the line, Curated-HDG!"
Sighs.
It's peak.
Again.
Beau and Bernard is the story of an elderly gay bear being scan digitized and forked into a second body, a body that fulfills his fantasies of who he used to be before twink death set in. It is told primarily from the perspective of that forked twink.
To start with, it's incredibly hot. I mean, you'd expect that, it's told from the perspective of someone who was very literally built to be a sex toy, and he's very aware of that fact. Someone engineered to enjoy the taste of his ortet's cock, someone engineered so his rectum exists more or less exclusively for sexual gratification, someone engineered to be addicted to the feeling of getting bred.
It's also, as the tags imply, a lot more wholesome than you might expect. The most recent chapter had me squirming in my seat for the first half, then almost crying for the second half. The subtext surrounding the LRX pandemic is quite sobering. There's also just a lot of love and care, both between Beau and Bernard, and between each of them and Cady Cordyline, their largely hands-off owner, despite her tendency to merely observe from afar. Hell, there's even some really effective body horror in the opening chapter as they're forked.
Look, I dunno what to tell you. It's Sheep and Sly. It's really, really good. The second sentence is very much implied by the first at this point. As always, I'm not entirely sure where this is going to go - remember when I thought My Pet Spouse was going to be mostly slice of life fluff? Not making that assumption again - but wherever it's going, I'm along for the ride, on a shiny, chromed-out motorbike fit for two.

Ace-Friendly: Mostly; there's a lot of sensual touch and some hand-to-genitals contact
Noteworthy tags: Diapers, literal shitposting, Age Regression, Soiling
What would you do for 4% uptime on grind week?
For Eris Evelyn, the answer is simple. She'd try performance enhancers, in the form of padding. Yet when she loses control of herself, she gains the attention of the guild master.
I'm sure Cherry is a nice, reasonable type, and definitely won't flare up her daddy issues.
Hey. You want to hear a rent-lowering gunshot?
Performance Enhancing Padding is a short, sweet gutpunch about a hardcore gamer, Eris, taking a bet: will switching to diapers to cut bathroom breaks out of her schedule give her the 4% extra uptime her guildmate insists it will? Yes, that really is the premise, and friends, Elurra runs with it. I clicked into this story expecting a lighthearted comedy about gamers doing silly things, and I ended up getting socked right in the daddy issues.
I will mince no words: this is a story in which the main character shits herself on more than one occasion. It's played for loss of control, not eroticism (at least, not directly), but if that's a dealbreaker, that's a dealbreaker. If it is, you will be missing on out some extremely tightly written, sharp, and emotional storytelling built on the foundation of, again, a gamer wearing diapers and pissing herself to pwn a guildmate.
Because Performance Enhancing Padding doesn't stop at the premise, oh no. The premise is just the opening salvo, which Elurra follows up with the double-barreled blast of leather-Daddy he/him lesbian Cherry, the affini guild leader who's there to make sure the cuties don't overdo the grind. Rest assured that our heroine will be touching grass in the course of the story, and unburdening herself of the trauma that, when revealed, instantly snaps into retroactive focus. It was there from the very beginning, sometimes subtle, sometimes overt, but always present.
She'll be unburdening herself of some other things, too, of course.
... I meant her maturity. What did you think I meant?
Do you have recs for stories with fat protags or which feature weight gain as part of a floret's domestication/recovery?
There's a few really thick ones, as it turns out!
From Pawn To Princess features weight gain as part of recovery.
Dog of War also.
And Love Doesn't Ask for Permission.
And Kintsugi. And Cat's Got My Tongue.
Alder's Prize wouldn't do to stay so skinny.
Pride of Her Garden has some pretty explicit feedism.
So does Polaroid.
Dancing to Her Rhythms features a fat protagonist.
So does Good Sensory.
And Root Access.
And Golden Ladder.
And Art Exhibition.
I'm not entirely sure if Knock Upper Bend Over counts, given the reason the protagonist ends up significantly rounder, but I'm hardly going to pass up an opportunity to plug a super hot pregnancy kink story. Ditto Surrogate Bloom.
This is an abridged list, but notice how many of the biggest stories in the setting are featured. It's not commonly the focus, but it does show up all over the place. We love our fat florets!
Hi there! i recently read The sweetest poison through you & i am enjoying it so much! do you know any stories with arachnoid/spider-like affini? either that, or a buglike-floret or beeple? possibly? sorry if thats too specific (or too vauge!), im new around here, thank you in advance!
For arachnoid/spider-like affini, I have a few!
How A Floret Finds Out and its sequels feature a spider-like affini and a bug-like floret!
She Wants You and its sequel She Needs You feature the delightful spiderfini Miss Vatia.
Exogamy's Miss Cynthia is... spider-esque? Very good story either way.
And as for Beeple stories, you might want to give the June Beeple Jam a look!
Enjoy! <3 And if you need more recs, try the community discord! I'm sure I've missed a few stories here, and it has a new "Story Recommendations" channel where you can ask this kind of thing.
Ancot Mielthorn is a slightly prudish second bloom with the softest vines, and an even softer spot for her little sprout students she teaches in a summer program.
Cynthia Chrysanthemin is a crass fourth bloom hedonist that's pretty damn sure she's got everything she could want in life.
The only thing they have in common is that they’re both dating the same affini, Malle, who is Ancot’s sisterbloom, and that Robin, Cynthia’s floret, is one of Ancot’s students.
But perhaps opposites will attract, and the more they interact, the more they’ll learn to like each other.
If you need more of a recommendation to read Exogamy than the byline... Hi! Welcome to HDG. You must be new here. Lagnia and Sheepwave are two of the most prolific, most talented authors currently contributing to the HDG canon, and their last collaboration, I Can't Motivate Myself To Hate You, was excellent.
It's still very much setting things up, but good lord, even the setup of these characters is... woof. Ancot is a prudish affini who runs a school for little sprouts and seems to want nothing to do with sex, be it of the xenosophont or affini variety. Cynthia previously appeared in the disturbingly hot "A Taste of Class Omega", radiates sex, and makes bespoke commissioned pleasure grafts as a hobby. Malle is a submissive little slut who is dating both of them. And Robin... Robin is hot for teacher.
Look, I don't know what these two are setting up quite yet. The tags may provide hints, but we're still early on in this story. The only thing I know is that it threatens to be apocalyptically hot. You can already see from Ancot's internal monologues that there's some suppression that's going to get detonated, and when that goes... hoo boy. I'm very excited for how this one turns out. But even if all we get are the two published chapters, the descriptions of affini-on-affini affection in chapter one alone would warrant a recommendation from my end. Everbloom.
We just hit the end of act 1 (chapter 10), and I wanted to post a quick followup. Having seen some of what these two are setting up...
...It's good. It's really, really, really good. There's a dance scene in there that ranks among some of the best impressionistic prose I've ever seen. There's affini-on-affini sex between the neediest little sub you've ever seen and a stone top and it slaps my shit straight up. Robin is unbelievably sexy (in a "I didn't know you could use a doll like that" way), extremely funny, and makes me stupidly jealous. Ancot feels like a piece of Lagnia dripped directly onto the page. Cynthia is far more nuanced and interesting than you'd expect. Occantalis... is Occantalis. I adore this stupid sexy shipmind.
Exogamy rules. Absolutely one of the stories whose continuation I am most looking forward to currently, absolutely worth the recommendation I gave it earlier.
Ace-Friendly: no sexual content or references to date
Noteworthy tags: Class-O Xenodrugs (Human Domestication Guide), Off Of Class Os
You were always prone to nightmares. Momma always helped out.
To Be Loved (Is To Be Changed) is a rare beast in the HDG canon. A cotyledon story, and a Class-O story, and a story ultimately about the process of coming off of class-Os, as told from the perspective of that cotyledon who is coming off of class-Os. A perspective that is fragmented in time and space as her Owner, veterinarian, and friends try to help her recover who she is and the memories she has.
Make no mistake - in spite of that fragmentation (or, perhaps, because of it), this is a carefully-woven tapestry of intrigue and healing. Otterpopd slowly expands the map around a particularly vivid day of core memories, slowly drip-feeding us facts about Nomi's life without necessarily placing them clearly in a timeline. It's a fairly unique, very beautiful style.
(Speaking of style, it's also unapologetically black, written in no small part in AAVE.)
Now, while the story is, to date, free of any sexual content, I will say that it's clearly very horny about robotics. There's a scene in chapter 6, content warned with "Unorthodox penetration", involving thorns, spikes, and ports, and the prose is just... hhhhhhhhh. Unorthodox, slightly horrifying kink, identity death, extreme care, dehumanization...

So in case anyone missed it, in my last review, I added a new line to the header of my post: "Ace-Friendly?"
There's been a fair bit of discourse about the role and prominence of asexuality in HDG. I have zero interest in wading into that discussion. This blog is for fic recs, and celebrating the amazing writing made by the countless talented sophonts in this community.
However, I think something we could all do as a community to help those asexual folks who feel less welcome in the modern incarnation of the setting is to make it easier for them to find what they're looking for.
So going forwards, I will be doing my best to make it clear if and to what degree a fic is "ace-friendly". I will also gently encourage authors to do the same when tagging and uploading their work. It's a small thing to do which may well make a bunch of sophonts feel a little more welcome in this community. It'd be ideal if we collectively decided on some good tags for that, but I'll leave that to the folks doing the writing.
(I will also ask for a bit of patience and grace from y'all with this - asexuality is a broad spectrum and different people will have differing opinions on what they consider as "ace-friendly".)
And, because no curated-HDG post is complete without some fic recs, here are a few of my favorite ace-friendly fics*:
No Fate But What They Make by EldritchAmy
There's Always A Choice by Xanderhall
Independent Variable by Moonfloret
Good Sensory by Sheepwave (it just got an update recently and that update is completely insane)
Ramifaction by Fuckingterrify
There's A Storm Brewing by Rocketmermaid
A Normal Grocery Run Where No Domestication Occurs by SapphicSounds
( * Note: these stories are all ace-friendly at time of writing; I cannot promise that the ongoing ones all intend to stay that way long-term.)
Taking some criticism onboard, in the future I will be handling this tag not by stating whether or not a fic is "ace-friendly", but rather by describing whether or not that fic contains explicit sexual content and/or mention of explicit sexual content. "Ace-friendly" is prone to differences of opinion based on what people consider "asexual" or not; "contains explicit sexual content" is at least significantly less likely to lead to that sort of problem.
Consent and Consent 2 by Cadence the Hypnotic Floret
Published: November 2024 and August 2026
3.4k words; 2 One-shots, complete
Ace-Friendly: Yes
Notable tags: Hypnosis, Non-Consent, Memory
Your good friend has questions about the Terran conception of consent, and how best to follow it. Only problem? This friend is an affini, and she's… less than convinced.
and
You just got off the phone with your biological mother, and your Mistress has some thoughts about something you said. You told your mother that the relationship was consensual - after all, you agreed to everything your Mistress asked. Your Mistress sees this as a learning opportunity.
If you look up Consent (the story) on the HDG Discord Server, you will see that it has been shared and recommended over 115 times. It comes up in many conversations. Thirsty ones. Lustful ones. But mostly, philosophical ones, or talks about what kind of story best introduces you to HDG.
This is for a very, very good reason.
And now there’s a sequel, for those in the back who weren’t listening. Why? The lack of consent and autonomy in HDG is a vital component of the world. It serves many purposes.
The disability narrative is one where there is no autonomy. You will be treated as a disabled person would be, without autonomy whether you want it or not. If you get to opt out, then the disability kink and the fantasy of a world where everyone is treated like you are evaporates.
The Affini are imperialist, ever expanding. In real life, this is bad. The clear lack of consent in the setting ensures that this is not muddied. We are not arguing in favour of imperialism. We are kinking off the bad thing.
The element that makes HDG different from something like mechsploitation, is that the brainwashing isn’t just individual. This is not a single hound who has been fried into thinking their handler loves them. This is an entire society that has been culturally domesticated with unconditional love and a lack of scarcity into accepting a world where human beings are kept as pets. What’s more, the People doing it are high on their own supply. Affini are benevolent, which means they are well meaning and kind. It does not mean they are right.
Sometimes, a new reader to the community will become entranced by the allure of the unconditional love and the lack of scarcity and they will read stories where the characters are also entranced by the allure and a kind of spell will be cast. The reader, for a moment, begins to get cooked right alongside the character. This is fun in the moment.
But you must step outside of the magic circle.
Consent and Consent 2 take you by the hand and remind you just how fucked up this whole thing is. How even the most agreeable seeming human who goes along with the entire thing is still incapable of consenting in a society that is so fundamentally and profoundly unequal.
The stories are short, snappy, and written by one of the most talented and beloved community members who knows a thing or two about the topics involved. The magic circle and subject agency, the things that real consent are made of in our world, are vital components to the hypnosis audios Cadence makes. The profound nuance of consent and every possible perspective on its violation are essential to her story Dancing to her Rhythms.
So it’s no wonder she is able to deliver such a slam dunk analysis on the topic so efficiently. And did I mention? It’s incredibly hot.
Ace-Friendly: Ehhh? There's things resembling sex, but any sexuality to date is from the point of view of someone who does not see it as "sex"; ymmv
Notable tags: Purification, No Needles, Praise Kink
Remy Jones, Third Floret, and Shanai Jones, Fourth Bloom, are a happily newlywed human/affini couple. Shanai obsessively adores her little pet spouse to pieces and humors the illusions about their relationship that make Remy happy.
This story is told from Shanai’s perspective, as she gives her pet everything they want. Everything but control of their life.
Toxic resilience, of course, takes more than a few strokes of a pleasure graft to unlearn. For that, you might need a bit of age regression. Fortunately, Shanai meets another affini at the wedding who can help her sort things out!
This story has two versions. In one, Manchild, Remy is a cisgender man. In the other, Princess, Remy is a transgender woman. In both, they are under the misconception they are the one in charge of this relationship. (the actual wordcount is half what ao3 lists due to this doubling)
...Look, I'll stop recommending Sheepwave and SlyLittlePrincess stories when they stop consistently being incredible. Fuck you. Fight me. I've been reading the F/m version, so my review will be largely of that.
My Pet Spouse is, to put it bluntly, freakin' adorable. Like. Remy is just. A lil' guy! He's so cute! And the way Shanai's perspective so utterly demolishes so much of his toxic masculinity is just so peak. And meanwhile, she's being actually courted by another affini, and it makes for a very cute and funny comparison as this man is effectively cucked by his wife, who sees him not as a partner, but a beloved pet. I just adore the way these two write the affini POV. The things she does for this little goober, it's adorable. Highly recommend.
My original review did not even begin to do it justice. Holy fuck y'all. These two apparently don't do small and cute. It also has to feature unfathomable cosmic bliss, an affini completely crashing out, meta-cuckolding on multiple levels I have never quite seen, this absolutely incredible moment that I just have to quote for posterity...
I found no errors, agreed that the affini described was absolutely in need of intervention, and digitally notarized my own approval, leaving me rather mortified when the context overlay turned back off and I remembered I was the affini in question.Â
...and a big swing at exploring the contours of what a shipmind is actually like.
All while maintaining that wonderful, caring, almost lackadaisical tone from the beginning. It's kinda wild that that even works at all.
Absolutely incredible from start to finish; the kind of instant classic that's likely to have a real impact on the direction the setting goes in the future. Do not miss this one.
I am back! To see if you have any stories where there is like- Fishing in it, Like either a fisherman gets floreted or like- Their Affini takes them fishing? :3
To answer this and your other ask at once: I got nothing, sorry. Just rather specific and niche. You may have better luck on the discord server's new "Story Recommendations" channel; I know a lot of HDG, but not all the HDG.
Ace-Friendly: So far yes, but with plans to get horny later on.
Noteworthy tags: Drug Addiction
Skye Vaillis has seen the fall of Humanity. She's watched the broadcasts, days' worth, of strong-willed Terran freedom fighters being broken down into eager toys for the plant xenos that now run the Milky Way and beyond. More than two years after the Accord has collapsed and left every lingering "feral" to fend for themselves, she wrestles with the decade-long itch of severe drug addiction, and the endless urges to relapse. Her ragtag crew has held together astoundingly well under the watch of Ophelia Oros, a woman Skye earnestly believes to be humanity's last, best hope for freedom. She's all they've got, the last wild card in the deck.
A supply run goes wrong, and Skye is offered a simple bargain for a few last hits of her drug of choice, before she gets clean forever. All she has to do is leave one door cracked open, for just a moment. She won't be getting her drug of choice, either; she'll be getting the healthier, plant-derived version directly from the source.
One day, she'll come to terms with it all.
Have you ever felt the need for a substance so all-encompassing that you'd do anything for just one more hit? That sickening, itchy craving that you'd do anything just to silence for just a moment? The feeling that there's nothing in the world more important than getting your next dose, even as you, on some level, understand that this poison has made your life worse in almost every conceivable way?
I haven't. I hope you haven't either.
Skye Vaillis has.
This is without a doubt one of the darker, grimmer, more horrific stories I've seen in the HDG canon. It carries with it an unflinching look at the human cost of hard drug addiction, and the psyche of a person forced to suffer through it. Even the kink elements lean far heavier on horror, as, at least to date, we see them all through the horrified eyes of an unbroken feral. You could absolutely write the scene where the main character meets a hucow age regression catgirl to be titillating. Jojolenesbizarreadventure very intentionally did not. There's some mental arithmetic in chapter 2 - you'll know it when you see it - that left me with chills down my spine.
Even once she ends up within the compact, there's still not really a reprieve, because while substance abuse and addiction aren't really problems per se outside of the coercive structures of capitalism, the trauma of those structures doesn't just go away. She can't just give in to chemical bliss (even though she totally could), because of all the horrific pain and misery that represented in her past. It's compelling stuff!
We also get a lovely late look at Spiru and Jolene from The Bacchus Bargain, another fic I really enj-
...Okay how did I miss that one?!
Okay quick aside The Bacchus Bargain is an absolutely delightful, slightly unorthodox courtship story by the same author which I really enjoyed and will gladly recommend. But reading it might not fully convey to you the degree to which Spiru is an absolute stone-cold badass when dealing with genuine ferals. Rest assured, you will not miss that character trait in this story. And Jolene... Jolene is just wonderful. I love that little cinnamon roll, she deserves good things in her life.
(And while I'm at it, before I got sucked into First Hit's Free today, I was planning for today's entry to be Adoption Day by the same author, an absolutely gorgeous one-shot about an affini rescuing a terran from her parents, which aimed directly at any trans girl whose parents meant well but really didn't get it, and also never bothered to take the time to try to understand. It's very good.)
Where was I... First Hit's Free. Right. As of writing this review, the story seems to be slowly heading towards the "comfort" side of hurt/comfort, with a main affini I genuinely adore and a great hostile dynamic between the two of them. In any case, I'll give this one a firm recommendation. JojolenesBizarreAdventure keeps putting out really really good stuff, and I am here for it.

Sorry if this sounds mean, I just found out I was transmasc and wanna know if there were any stories like that
You are looking for the works of Mercury and PrinceAndromeda!
A Part of Who I Am is incredible. To quote myself:
Yaoi lovers rejoice! A Part of Who I Am is a dreamlike romp through the incredibly dense and beautiful world of New Asteria. There is a very unique vibe to this fic - it's written in present tense third person with a very personal, descriptive style, and the result is downright impressionistic. It is also a heartfelt exploration of moral OCD, and a pointed look at what forcefemme looks like for a trans man. Recommend extremely highly.
The same author also collaborated on Beltane Wildfire, which is also incredible.
Basically everything Pr1nceAndromeda has written is stellar and features transmasc protagonists, but I'll put specific love on I Think I'm Being Stalked By Beautiful Robot Men, A Prince and His Lilies, and Two-Faced. And Cozy Clothes for Bashful Boys. Man's hot.
There's also this lovely collection of HDG Forcemasc Stories.
Elena lives in the Compact. She doesn't have to work, she has a compiler that'll spit out whatever fetish gear she fancies, and she's happily independent. Everything's going great — except her love life. She's bounced from relationship to relationship, and none seem to stick. No one's fault, things simply don't work out, and so she spends many a night alone, at home, wrapped up in latex and watching the lewdest streamer she can find.
Until she meets Ophrys Boquila, Third Bloom, at a game night hosted by a mutual friend. The fashionable affini, perhaps unusually, seems happy to merely date Elena, but Elena wonders if that can work. Affini are Affini, after all, and the urge to domesticate seem to be so deeply ingrained as to be unshakeable. What does it mean to let yourself fall in love with an affini like you would anyone else — and what will become of Elena if she does?
I always try to avoid speaking in superlatives when it comes to HDG, because there are so many incredibly talented authors and artists in the space, but when the question of "Greatest of all time" comes up, I don't think there are many less controversial picks than Kanagen. She's been writing HDG for over four years; No Gods No Masters is rightfully considered one of the foundational texts of the entire setting; Floret in the Mirror was foundational for what the digital compact could be; she spearheaded the concept of "nothocultures"; she wrote one of the two definitional "affinification" stories; and through it all, she has yet to produce a single work that falls below the level of "absolutely incredible".
Lacuna? Lacuna is absolutely fucking incredible. A masterclass in slow-burn frog-boiling, with a killer hook and immaculate execution, this might genuinely be my favorite story in Kanagen's world-class roster. It's that good.
Mild spoilers ahead.
If I may, allow me to go right ahead and spoil the "hook" of Lacuna, by quoting from chapter 3.
"I mean to approach tonight, and whatever comes after, in precisely that spirit. In fact, I will make a further commitment. I will only ever initiate domestication proceedings with you at your request."
And hoo boy is this one hell of a hook. It reminds me of a few of my favorite courtship stories; Dancing to Her Rhythms and Good Sensory immediately come to mind, and I'm just about as feral about Ophrys and Elena's dynamic as I am of those stories. I mean, being a floret is a huge commitment, and some people aren't really into that... But maybe you still want to have a meaningful relationship with an affini in spite of that. What could possibly go wrong?
There's this incredible frog-boiling feeling throughout, as Ophrys gently nudges Elena towards doing more things that make both of them happy. The passage of time is very tangible, in a way few HDG stories offer. Instead of taking place over the course of days or weeks, this is a story that happens over months and years, and we get to watch every subtle shift in the dynamic as it happens, experiencing it in a way not dissimilar from the main character. Even as the elements of play gradually become more esoteric and extreme, it never feels like much has changed... until, all of a sudden, you get a shock to your system, you look back, and see how little you recognize of the person you used to be. Every step on the path you took to get there was small and made perfect sense at the time, but after so many steps, you are far, far from home. It is a masterful slow burn, and the way the arc resolves itself... chef's kiss. Beautiful. Genuinely - this is the craft of storytelling on a level we don't get every day.
And then there's the kink. Oh god the kink. Ophrys is an artist, and sees the world through that lens, and the experiences she crafts are just obscenely hot. Latex fans are going to be eating especially good in this story, but honestly, if you like anything about high protocol BDSM, dollplay, or affini more generally, this story is likely to hit home in a big way. (Also: while it's not tagged as dollkink, dollkink enjoyers should still definitely give it a look.) There is a recurring class-M scene in this book that left me speechless.
Lacuna is an absolute gem of a story. If you like courtship, if you like slow burn, if you enjoy the idea of being in a dynamic with someone you can become addicted to, if you think latex is hot, if you trust my opinion as a curator and reviewer... do not miss this one.
