Quick reminder, especially for you younger undergrads: Discipline is a skill, not a character trait. And just like any skill, it can be practiced and improved upon incrementally. Try not to get discouraged if you have a day, or multiple days, where you are less disciplined than you would like or need to be. Don’t quit. Don’t spend the next week binging Netflix because you think it’s a hopeless endeavour. Just get up the next day and try again. Each day you try is more practice, and each day you practice, you’ll get a little bit better, and that continual improvement will pay dividends in the long run.

“Khadīja was a great teacher; she has such a maqām (place) in our religion. She taught the Prophet (ﷺ) who he was; she was the one who elevated him in his esteem. When he had self doubt she said no. You can see that when the Prophet (ﷺ) married ‘Ā’ishah he had no fear of strong women. There are a lot of men who fear strong women, who want them to be wallflowers. Whereas with the Prophet (ﷺ), that’s not the type of people he encouraged - his wives were women who talked back, and the reason he wasn’t afraid was because Khadīja was his first wife. She was a woman of the world. She knew the world, and she was completely self confident. That’s a sunnah of our Prophet (ﷺ), to elevate women.”

Nothing lasts, you see, not even the thoughts inside you. And you mustn’t waste your time looking for them. Once a thing is gone, that is the end of it.
