The old lady is not in her home. She is at work. She's meant to be what in Italian is called "la portinaia", aka a cross between a doorwoman and cleaner of a residential building. She's in her small "office" space, at the entrance of the building, from where she can survey the coming and goings of the inhabitants. It's a job that has mostly disappeared, but is culturally very clear to us as having the connotation of "potentially gossipy, one-million-percent judgmental woman who sees everything that goes on in the apartment complex, knows everyone and their secrets, and has Strong Opinions™️".

Trump is fuming as CNN's Kaitlan Collins stood in the middle of his deserted Great American State Fair and showed the world exactly what his "packed" celebration really looks like.

Reporting live from the National Mall, Collins delivered the line that will haunt him all weekend: for a president who often fixates on crowd size, the fair hasn't exactly lived up to the hype. Booths shut down as air conditioning failed in triple-digit heat. A piece of the main stage fell off near dancers mid-rehearsal. Some are now comparing the whole thing to Fyre Festival.

Rep. Bonnie Coleman, who served on the original planning committee, called it what it is: Trump's vanity project, one that has denigrated the essence of the celebration itself.

Now there is reportedly growing angst inside the White House ahead of Trump's Fourth of July speech, where 107-degree heat and strict security could produce yet another underwhelming crowd. His answer? Spending untold millions on a 40-minute fireworks display to chase a world record, with the White House refusing to say where the money is coming from.

I don't know how this was missed. Well, I do. The Felon says so many stupid things, we cannot easily keep track of all of it.
