    “Exactly, so it was my pleasure,” he replied with another small huff. 

    Yet, a part of him knew he could have handled that better. Laying some asshole flat out on the patio of some beach bar was more than enough to have eyes on him for the rest of their stay, but Diana had been pretty clear about her dislike. Niko figured he was just ADDED ASSURANCE in this instance, as much as he was usually pulling her away from fights. At least, the ones not worth the time. 

    Though, he found himself glancing back toward her at the offhand comment. She was right, he probably didn’t need to do that or even handle it in such a way. Yet, he couldn’t CHANGE anything. (Maybe this city was getting to him a little, he didn’t know.) 

    “He would have seen us sit together, probably would have made it my problem even if I did not want it to be,” he replied with a small shrug. “Now you can drink in peace while bartender gives me looks, but I say it ended well.” 

          she can’t help but still be mildly amused by it all. normally, one wouldn’t find a man being laid out flat on his ass by someone amusing, but when diana thought about how it was usually niko being the level-headed of the two, and being better at picking and choosing his battles, only to wind up punching a creep in the face for making unwanted advances towards her, it’s simply impossible not to lightly snort at the whole thing.

          “ and you call me temperamental... ” she murmurs against her glass, playfully teasing. she wouldn’t ever give him actual shit for it; in fact, she found herself to be rather grateful for his interference...she just isn’t ready to relay that bit of information to him, yet.

          though, niko makes a good point. lowering her drink and placing it back down on the coaster, diana says, “ yeah, probably. wonder if he still woulda copped an attitude if he’d ‘a known you’re my husband. ” she can’t resist, lips twitching again in an attempt to keep her smile from reforming. “ maybe we oughta tell th’ bartenda, too; save ya some ‘a those looks. ”

    “There was…issue with the result of a job.” 

    Wasn’t he supposed to be giving this up? Tying himself legally to Diana was only for the sake of citizenship, a means to get himself some work without having to worry about assuring this his employer LOOKED THE OTHER WAY when it came to him. Yet, here he was. 

    “I have some something to get rid of and I have to leave the city to do it, it is a little messy. I will give you a cut.” 

          " oh? ” consider her interest piqued. maybe her curiosity was simply getting the better of her, especially considering she hadn’t known niko to smudge too many of his own jobs, but she’s already mentally agreed before even bothering to ask for details.

          the last bit of what he says is too tempting to resist, so she agrees. curiosity killed the cat.

    A quick scoff left him at her remark as Niko sat himself down beside her at the bar, some notable redness that would soon turn to a bruise on the knuckles of his right hand. “I am not,” he replied evenly, “He was already pissing me off. I just needed a reason.”

    Though, at her offering her his drink, Niko turned to glance toward her before glancing down at it. He…honestly wasn’t too sure what it was. “Uh, thank you, but I think this is more your drink than mine.” Though, upon pushing it back toward her slightly, he did raise a hand to catch a small nod from the bartender. Getting something to drink wasn’t a bad idea. Not at this hour, at least.

          diana’s grin twitches slightly bigger at niko’s scoff, hazel eyes watching him for a few moments longer, before she decides to drop it, shoulders shrugging flippantly. her gaze flits down to look at those knuckles with the forming bruise, keeping to herself how surprised at just how ham niko had gone on the asshole. not that he didn’t deserve it, of course. hell, niko could’ve thrown the guy into a woodchipper and diana would’ve deemed that an appropriate punishment as well.

          “ well, not like he didn’t deserve it, ” diana says, taking her drink back without any complaint and lifting it to her lips. after taking a sip, she turns her attention back to niko. “ hell, if ya ask me, bastard deserved worse. ” then again, diana often thought that of the shithole men who thought they had the balls to fuck with her. this guy was no exception.

trevor huffs out a scoff, lips curling into a humorless smile, eyes narrowing at franklin. “ oh, so you’ll take michael’s advice, but not mine, eh? like he ain’t the textbook definition of a hypocrite? like every other thing out of his mouth isn’t fucking- ” he stops abruptly, head ducking as he raises a finger. he takes a deep breath, raises his head, and continues.

“ i’m not… lecturing you. i’m speakin’ from my own experiences, and hoping you’re smart enough to take my advice since i’ve been in the game for so long, and ain’t just talkin’ out of my ass– ” another heavy breath. “ if you don’t want my advice, fine. don’t expect me to sit by and let michael poison your mind with his bad advice, though. listen to him, and believe you me… ” trevor laughs, low and dry, letting the statement hang between them.

          franklin knew he’d hit a soft spot the moment he heard trevor prattle on about michael. it wasn’t that franklin thought that michael was really any better, hell, to be honest, he thought that both michael and trevor were crazier than shithouse rats-- but he couldn’t help but find it rather IRONIC to be on the receiving end of a lecture from one of the brashest men he knew. he’d known what he’d seen, what he’d heard--

          but, he didn’t wanna see trevor all worked up, so he decides on a different approach.

though she doesn’t pose nearly as much of a threat as he does, trevor is just as uneasy around amanda. to say that he can’t stand her fucking guts would be putting it nicely, as would saying that being alone with her is borderline torturous. which is why it’s so fun talking with her. the corners of his mouth twitch at her poorly-concealed unease, lips parting into a smile just wide enough to bare stained teeth.

“ ‘course they adore me. i didn’t completely ruin them the way you and mike did. ” it’s said with a smile, but there’s a coldness to his tone ( this isn’t playful banter; when he says they ruined those kids, he means it ). he sniffs, then continues.

“ much as i’d love to stand here and list off the ways you failed those kids, i’m here for michael. we got plans. he said he’d be back from the studio by now and he ain’t answering his phone, so i’m here to collect him. ”

          amanda’s plans for the day had been simple: do some online shopping, go outside to practice tennis, take a kale break, and settle in to watch some of her favorite daytime television talk shows since she, surprisingly enough, had the house to herself for the time being. so, of course, it would only be natural that those plans would be ruined by an unwelcomed visitor. despite michael’s reassurances, amanda still had her doubts that trevor wouldn’t snap and kill her ( and possibly the rest of their family ) one of these days. hence why being alone with him adds unnerving air between them.

          amanda could argue that while she and michael had argued more than she might’ve liked in front of the kids, it was really being out here in los santos that could ruin anybody. as much as she could find silver linings in their time here, even she had to admit that their family had suffered quite a bit since moving here. still, she decides it’s best to let the moment pass and not feed into it. the discomfortingly cold smile she’s met with makes her skin prickle and makes the decision all that much easier.

          “ well, ” amanda finally says, flippantly, “ he isn’t here. haven’t seen him since this morning. ” as much as amanda isn’t crazy about the idea of her husband and trevor hanging out, she wishes that he were here to run interference. at the very least, she’d feel at least slightly more comfortable being in the same room as trevor if he was.
