Do you ever think about what Owen and Beru told Luke about Shmi?
Do you think they recognized her in Luke's smile? Do you think it ever encouraged Owen, just a little, to see the gentleness of Shmi in Luke instead of the brashness of his father?
Maybe Owen taught Luke how to fix the engine of his speeder and told him, "Your grandma taught me how do that."
She was probably the warning, the terrible cautionary tale to keep Luke from wandering, to keep him away from the tusken raiders’ territories. But I wonder if Owen ever told a joke that Shmi used to always say, or if Beru made Shmi's favorite meal for Bantoo Eve.
I wonder if there were remnants of her at the farm, her tools, a wall she painted, a holo, a piece of jewelry. Maybe there was a poncho on a hook or an apron that they never packed away after she died.
Maybe Luke uses her aeromagnifier. He found it in a junk drawer one day and still has it in his toolkit, not knowing it had been a gift to his enslaved grandmother.
And maybe one night on Ossus, when Grogu was especially lost in his grief of missing Din, Luke had whispered the same story that Shmi used to encourage an adolescent Owen with:
"There's this story my Uncle used to tell me. The myth of the sun-dragon. It lived inside the core of a star, a fierce guardian of everything it loved. It could survive even the hardest circumstances because it had the biggest heart in the galaxy."
