Interpretive Photographs Artist Statement
Have you ever gone to a public place with family or friends and just looked around to see the people around you?  Its funny to see, a person or group of people at the table next to you and they are not communicating with each other because they are too busy with their phones.  I chose to take a series of shots, where people are so caught up with technology they are completely oblivious to the world around them.  It fascinating to see how each generation over time gets more and more tangled up in their phones, that the most important things in life, like family, friends, and memories don’t seem to be that important anymore when their phone is with them.  The Interpretive category I thought would be best for this series, because I wanted to show the viewers just how attached us as a society are to our phones. Taking each picture, I tried taking the pictures without the persons permission because I didn’t want the photo to feel staged.  I wanted to document exactly what happens in everyday life. Â
