And it reminds me of one of the biggest weaknesses of season 2 of the Netflix show compared to seasons 1 and 3. It feels like there, they threw a lot of Matt's fights with the ninjas in to keep the audience from checking out. None of them really stand out compared to each of the individual big action scenes in the first half of season 2, or each big fight in seasons 1 and 3.

Thanks for letting me know my words somehow stuck with at least one person! I tend to vent a lot on the internet about my grievances with the show and a lot of the time it feels like I’m screaming into the void lol

But yes exactly that. Season 2 of OG series is weaker than season 1 and 3 for this exact reason too imo. Focusing too much on the ~comics~ aspect of the show and adding a lot of fantastical elements as well as action scenes that feel… unearned simply makes for a less compelling and profound storytelling.

When Daredevil focuses on the human aspect and the crime drama like Deborah Ann Woll just described in the recent con event it makes for great TV. Because what has always made this show great was seeing Matt become the man and hero he is today, not shiny costumes and action for the sake of it… When the show adds superheroes on top of superheroes as well as people running around in costume like DDBA does… well I’m sorry but it simply ends up looking goofy and loses the « seriousness » that was there from the beginning.

I love that Daredevil exists in the Marvel realm. I really do. But I never wanted this show to become just like any other superhero show… its strength was always how mature it all felt DESPITE being a superhero show.

I think this is Disney and Marvel’s greatest weakness. They never know how to hold back and everything ends up feeling like a big blockbuster when it has no business being that. Just compare the budget of S1 and S3 of OG show with what they’re given nowadays. It all feels like such a waste of money… I always come back to Chloe Zhao’s quote about Eternals when she was on Hamnet’s press tour : “Eternals had, like, an unlimited amount of money and resources. And here we have one street corner that we can afford, to [stand in for] Stratford…. Eternals didn’t have a lot of limitations, and that is actually quite dangerous. Because we only have that street corner [in Hamnet], suddenly everything has meaning.”
