Crystal Rose

This time of year is hard, for a lot of people, and for me personally. There’s a lot of residual trauma that my body remembers and feels this time of year. It’s fucking frustrating honestly 😤🤣.

I’ve been feeling really drained and burnt out, but really not for any particular reason. Some of it is- I don’t think I’ve left much time for self-care lately/set good boundaries with myself. I absolutely am in love with our new puppy Harvey, but I always get a little bit of new puppy sads and overwhelm. I think that’s common though, whether you have a new baby animal, or a new baby human, even if it’s everything you wanted and you wouldn’t change it for the world, it’s still a big change! Stepping into that role, where something needs you constantly and you can’t really turn off? It’s one of the most beautiful gifts, but it’s…. overwhelming.😵‍💫

BUT I am reading two AMAZING spicy sci-fi romances right now:

- Strange Love by Ann Aguirre

- Lunar Luxury by Crystal Rose

I’m not very far in Strange Love, but omg it is so adorable and fun so far, I think it’s gonna end up being a top favorite of mine! I am loving the accidental abduction trope! I want more like that!

Lunar Luxury I am LOVING, and I knew I would, as I just loooveeeddddd the first one. This is book two (the first being Lunar Paradise) and Crystal writes some of my favorite real and emotionally vulnerable characters. This is a redemption story from a character in book 1, and Omggggg I’m a sucker for a redemption. The MMC is on the run, and his back story I relate to on a personal level. When I read Crystal’s books, I always feel like she sees right into my soul. They are such validating and cathartic reads, but also have so much sweet, romantic, and humorous elements. Just…..LOVE.

Here are some of my highlights from Lunar Luxury so far:

“Having that highly coveted big O moment with a partner had always eluded me. I’ve gotten close a few times, but then I would think about how it was taking too long and how I have other things I should be doing and that build up of pleasure just disappeared.”- Maggie (As a woman on the ace spectrum, also with a lot of chronic health issues/menopause at 32? This was incredibly relatable😮‍💨. But I think a lot of people can relate to this.)

“I was sick of the violence, and I was proud of myself for taking a stand... integrity may not pay the bills, but I’d rather have that than participate in his senseless violence.”- Norvan (I love him already)

“To see my peer, who ran his own security business, desperately trying to pull on a pair of pants as fast as his body would allow him was…amusing.”- Norvan (Omg this was a funny image🤣)

“The mere mention of [him] had set me on edge and sent me floundering to separate myself from his misdeeds.”- Norvan (same bro, same)

As I work my way through these 2, I’ll probably post some more random reading thoughts/highlights. 🖖🏻
