Sailor Moon Crystal Facets

crystalfacets redraw of the sailor moon crystal release image. Decided to do it as princess serenity. I’m sort of afraid to ink and color it, so here ya go.

This is the first piece of artwork I ever uploaded to this site. This is for the crystalfacets project, where you can redraw the famous Sailor Moon Crystal artwork.  I wanted to do this because Sailor Moon has been really important to me for many years now and how the whole series is coming back to life. In middle school a lot of my classmates would make fun of me for liking the show just because it was an “old anime” and they would always say Sailor Moon would be a dead series forever. They would even go to the point where they said it wasn’t a classic series. A few years later when I heard that a new anime was announced I was so ecstatic! Now the series many told me was dead is getting a huge revamp and I expect Sailor Moon Crystal have the series flourish through many generations to come! I made this piece to celebrate the fact that the series is not “dead” and that it is rising again.

Here is the finished version of the Sailor Moon Crystal anime promo. The idea for the redraw came from the tumblr blog, crystalfacets. I was not originally planning to color this, but somehow I ended up coloring it anyway. ^^;; There was a lot of fiddling around with the image, and while I can’t say I’m 100% happy with it, I did give it my best shot. It’s no secret that Chibi Usa is my favorite female Sailor Moon character, and I always wished we’d gotten more images or info on her Pink Moon Crystal, so I chose to draw her with her Pink Moon Crystal in this picture. In the original promo image Sailor Moon has a wide-eyed look as she holds up the Silver Crystal, as if she’s gazing at the crystal in awe and wonder. This makes sense, since in the first arc Usagi is inexperienced and does not know the extent of her crystal’s power. But adult!Chibi Usa would be an experienced, full fledged senshi by the time she’s in possession of her own Pink Moon Crystal, so I gave her a more assertive expression as she’s about to unleash its power.
