The rebound EC Comics (published/distributed by Oni Press) are "drafting" up a new war-comics-genre comic, titled SHELLSHOCK. SHELLSHOCK is set for an August 2026 release.

Yes, readers, that headline is correct! "Tales From The Crypt", that iconic television series (which adapted so many of the classic EC Comics stories), is coming to SHUDDER! After a decade's worth of not being available to view on any official streaming service, SHUDDER has gained exclusive rights to the CRYPT series and plans to host the series "uncensored", beginning with Season One on May 1st.

As for if the series has been remastered in HD, or is only going to be in "standard definition" is not yet known. If the video is now HD, or remastered at all; maybe it could bring a Blu-ray collection. Who knows?

This just in... EC Comics and Oni Press are releasing what some may categorize as a "Best-Of-Collection" of their newer (2024-2026) EC stories! The title of the book is "The EC Comics Treasury of Terror, Vol. 1".

The aforementioned "Treasury Of Terror" is (as of posting-date) to be available at comic shops and bookstores on September 8. The tentative cover image (courtesy of PRH) can be viewed below:

Fantagraphics Books will be releasing a box set edition of the MAD magazine issues that were edited by Harvey Kurtzman. This will be coming out for purchase in Fall 2026; The date currently (March 19, 2026) listed at online retailer Amazon’s USA site is October 20, 2026.

The book spans around 1300 pages acrose multiple bound volumes.

Below is the provided solicitation text from Fantagraphics’ recent catalog:

“For the first time, the entire original run of MAD comics and magazine by creator, editor, writer and cover artist Harvey Kurtzman in a lavish five-volume collector's box set, in oversized facsimile, with a wealth of bonus material.

In 1952, the first MAD comic was created as a way for the writer/editor/artist Harvey Kurtzman to do something quick and easy in between his elaborately researched war comics for EC. Against all odds, sales success soon turned it into his main job and inspired him to expand from goofy parodies of other comics into even zanier satires that revealed to the kids of America how hypocritical the adults, and entire structure of society and capitalism around them, truly were.

The core artists - Will Elder, Wallace Wood, Jack Davis and at first John Severin - all found themselves inspired by the opportunity to turn from horror or adventure comics to humor, turning out some of the best work of their comics careers - and going on to mainstream success from their name recognition MAD gave them.

By 1955, Kurtzman was ready to move on to grown-up magazine publishing - but seized an opportunity to convert MAD into a magazine first. With the same stable of artists, and a few new contributors from TV (Ernie Kovacs, Roger Price), radio (Stan Freberg) and newspapers, he converted the color comic to a black-and-white magazine that aimed its satire at kids and adults alike - and went on to even greater success. Kurtzman himself, and most of his artists, moved on after five issues. Those five issues, alongside the initial 23 comics, are given their first complete reprint here. A final volume adds two legacy issues containing Kurtzman's final completed work, plus a fold-out gallery of alternate reprint covers over the decades, a trove of archival material and comprehensively illustrated text detailing MAD's development, impact and sustained influence. A plexi-windowed slipcase shows Alfred E. Neuman, the future of MAD, looking inside the box at its history. These are the issues that shaped the sensibilities of just about all American humor for decades to come - finally available in one place for the first time.

MAD magazine issue #050, due in May 2026, will technically be the 600th issue of the long-running humor comic-magazine. So, it makes sense that DC Comics and E.C. Publications would want to play off of that milestone. Turns out, that is exactly what they plan on doing!

The upcoming issue(#050) will return to 'Legacy Numbering", just in time for issue... well, issue #600!

MAD issue #600 will feature some brand-new pieces, mixed with classic MAD material. It is being marketed as "...the kickoff to the upcoming MAD 75th Anniversary in 2027." There will even be a wrap-around cover to the issue; It is to be illustrated by longtime MADman Sergio Aragonés. However, the aforementioned wrap-around cover art has not been revealed yet - so the Store-Solicitation/Pre-Orders image is featured in this post.

DC Comics has just announced a MAD spin-off one-shot, titled "MAD About DC". Chip Zdarsky will be editing the book, as "Guest Editor". The comic is due out April 1st this year.

Confirmed contributors include MAD magazine's own Sergio Aragones; Jim Zub & Ramon Perez doing a piece titled "Guy Vs Spy", Mark Waid, Gail Simone and many others.

This just in - EC Comics and Oni Press are issuing a "Library Edition" of EC's horror-anthology comic-series "Epitaphs From The Abyss".

The Library Edition will collect issues 1-12 of "Epitaphs From The Abyss" Volume 1. And, get this: There's set to be over fifty pages of bonus material - sketches, cover galleries, various character designs, and more!

Two different editions/formats are planned by EC and Oni - and they both go on sale July 14th later this year!

Looks like Joe Lansdale is returning to an EC writer status with Catacomb Of Torment issue #9. Lansdale had previously contributed story scripts for EC/Papercutz' Tales From The Crypt (Volume 2) comics - while the following press release from Oni Press describes the situation as a case of "Enter(ing) EC Comics History", Lansdale has been involved with EC titles beforehand.

Something MAD is brewing in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. An exhibition of original artwork pieces from MAD magazine is being held at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Titled ‘What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine’, features art pieces from Al Jaffee, Sergio Aragones, and many other MAD contributors!

The full Press Release, as issued by the Cincinnati Art Museum themselves, is as follows:

CINCINNATI — August 20, 2025 —Irreverent, iconic and wildly influential, MAD Magazine has been making generations laugh—and think—since 1952. This fall, the Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM) invites visitors to rediscover the wit, weirdness and cultural critique that made MAD a publishing phenomenon in What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine, on view November 21, 2025, through March 1, 2026.

Organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and co-curated by Stephanie Haboush Plunkett, Chief Curator and Rockwell Center Director of the Norman Rockwell Museum, and Steve Brodner, foremost satirical illustrator and caricaturist, What, Me Worry? traces the illustrated history of MAD from its subversive comic book roots to its status as a mainstream force in American satire. Featuring more than 150 original works of art, the exhibition highlights beloved recurring features, unforgettable caricatures and the artists and writers behind them—collectively known as the “Usual Gang of Idiots.”

From Spy vs. Spy to the famous Fold-Ins and Alfred E. Neuman’s ever-grinning face, What, Me Worry? showcases MAD’s signature blend of visual hilarity and sharp cultural commentary. Original illustrations and cartoons by Mort Drucker, Sergio Aragonés, Jack Davis, Al Jaffee, Richard Williams and many others will be on view alongside ephemera, artifacts, media and rare memorabilia.

“This exhibition invites visitors, many of whom are MAD lovers, to reminisce over the magazine’s satirical history and have a good laugh but also explore the themes and critical historical moments spoofed by MAD,” said Director of Learning & Interpretation Emily Agricola Holtrop, the exhibition’s curator at CAM. “Through laughter, generations have learned about important social moments that have shaped this country—MAD did that.”

First hitting newsstands in 1952, MAD originally launched as an EC comic book series founded by editor Harvey Kurtzman and publisher William Gaines, with its inaugural issue titled Tales Calculated to Drive You Mad. The publication’s now-legendary parodies of Superduperman (issue #4) and Starchie (issue #12)—takeoffs on the classic DC Superhero and Archie comics—launched MAD into the stratosphere. In 1955, with MAD #24, the comic was reimagined as an illustrated magazine, releasing it from the censure of the Comics Code Authority. Between 1955 and 2025, over 595 issues have been published, along with numerous of specials, books, paperbacks and compilation projects. Now part of the Warner Bros. Discovery family, managed by DC, MAD continues with curated reprints, compilations and some new features, and is available at Barnes & Noble’s newsstands, Bookazines or via subscription to fans nationwide.

The exhibition will be on view in the museum’s Western & Southern galleries (Galleries 232 and 233) from November 21, 2025, through March 1, 2026.
