valeera is very much independent because of this, once she was old enough to fend for herself her ‘parents’ left her to her own devices and did not care about her overall well being. other people of the order took her in from time to time, made sure she was fed and clothed and had somewhat of an education. 

The familiar voice soothed the young dragon like it was home and the anger in her swelled again. “No,” she spoke up, standing a little taller as she spoke. “You misunderstand.” Words are spoken carefully, softly, so the pair could be in their own world right now, a bubble of their secrets and deception. No one else flittered around the scorched gardens that Valeera could feel or hear so she felt comfortable speaking with him like this. 

“The caves, the land we’ve been exiled to- that is not home. This should be ours.” A gesture to the expansive lands before the pair, the castle at their backs. “Our order has suffered too long, this is ours for the taking. It belongs to us.” Hand drops to a fist at her side, almost shaking in anger. It seems that’s all she feels lately is the hatred and anger for the crown. Soon- soon her family will be where it’s meant to be. “I just miss the others.”

𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 . post plot drop, the next afternoon

Last night’s chaos was just the tip of the iceberg to come, lighting Valeera with excitement. The remaining bits of panic and fear stir the castle this morning and she’s drinking it in well into the warm afternoon glow. The palace grounds, while still singed it seems, had this beauty about them and it made her sick. The monarchy has lived in peace and comfort for too long, sitting on their throne and looking down at anyone who isn’t them- blaming their problems on people who did nothing to deserve the ire of the crown. 

Hands fists at sides, shaking as she controls the urge to shift and wreck havoc on those around. Calm, deep breathes. The mission is simple: get in and get information. 

Eyes cast a glance around the gardens before letting out a long, held breath. “I just wish to go home,” she speaks aloud, uncaring if anyone is nearby.

“maiev!” came the voice of the older princess as she rushed forward to hug her younger sister. the pair of princesses had been dragged off to safety the night prior, and she’d not see the other since. she pulled away, but didn’t move too far back. “i’m so happy you’re safe.” and she left it at that, because before they’d been whisked off, it almost looked like her sister had been interested in the fire rather than dousing it, and zel didn’t want to launch into a lecture by bringing it up.

eyes light up at the sight of her older sister. their parting last night had been less than amazing, the fire spooking most in attendance while maiev had felt some kind of draw to the flame. her hands had reached for zelenia as soon as the flames erupted only to have her slip through fingers as kash had whisked away the elder princess and maiev’s own guard had done the same. words escape her as she flings arms around the older altair and clings to the other. most words are lost to maiev as she’s not paying attention to what the other is saying, too focused on the fact she’s unharmed and okay. “i’m okay, i’m okay.”

zel always spoke to her sister verbally and through signing, never wanting to force the other to rely on reading her lips. “oh, come on.” she did a little dance, dress swaying in the peaceful breeze the outside air offered. “you don’t want to dance the night away with some handsome lord far better than your betrothal?” both the princesses could share a bit of resentment for that one. “the little cakes are lovely, and the champagne is actually good for once.” talking to her sister helped keep her mind off being stuck with demetrius, which was always a good thing.

You’d only see a glimpse of his boot-clad feet; first as you continued to walk by the balcony door.  It would reveal Lev, perched on the railing off the balcony, head leading back on the pillar. Eyes close, inhaling the fresh night air. The assassin decided to take a break from his brand of protest to the ball. He was seeking solace in the shadows, content to have his little bit of peace. But he should have known it wouldn’t last forever. The light clacking of heels didn’t pull his attention. Not till the grew louder, peaking an eye open, he watched her step outside. “ Let me guess, “ he called from beside her. Lev’s head slowly rolling towards her. “ Need a break too? mi balcón es tu balcón. I’d offer you a seat, but as you can see, my seats are pretty high up, and some tend to get squeamish about heights .”

She was not one to startle easily, especially knowing that plenty of people would be in and out of the castle starting this evening. She had however, expected that she would remain within the shadows and that most would ignore her in favor of her high lord husband. It would be naïve of her to assume she would be complete ignored, even if that was her wish at least for this feast.

           a  questioning  brow  is  raised  BEFORE  corner  of  lips  turn  upwards  ;  the  beginning  of  a  smirk.  and  they  turn  slightly  upon  heeled  boots  (  never  making  a  sound  ;  always  moving  as  if  they  were  in  the  shadows  ).  ❝   oh  —–  but  now  you  got  my  attention  ,  your  royal  highness. ❞  and  even  with  such  FORMALITY  does  it  still  seem  as  if  it  were  a  mere  taunt  ,  a  tease  ,  void  of  the  BOUNDERIES  that  should  exist  between  one  of  such  high  standing  and  one  such  as  themselves.  a  step  forward  ,  long  coat  fluttering  behind  them  ,  danger  dancing  on  the  tip  of  their  tongue.  ❝  mhmm  ,  tempting.  but  not  tempting  enough.  what  if  i  say  that  i  really  don’t  care  if  you  escape  and  am  more  interested  knowing   WHERE  you  would  try  to  escape  to ?  ❞

the crisp night air was a welcome relief from the heated ballroom. dance after dance had zel’s feet throbbing and her body begging for a break. the dress she wore flowed, and had a large slit that allowed a nice breeze when she moved, but nothing compared to actually being outside. it was an escape, one she found herself intruding upon someone else while seeking. “i hope you’re enjoying yourself.” came her polite greeting, this was, after all, a party in her home. zel had to be a proper host.
