the  bastion  had  changed  in  the  decades  since  genevieve  had  graced  its  halls.  a  lie  about  a  business  trip,  location  on  her  phone  rerouted,  and  here  she  was.  she  didn’t  wish  to  be  here,  but  gen  knew  she  had  to  show  her  face,  had  to  become  available  for  the  table  should  they  need  her.  with  a  hefty  sigh  the  lawyer  slips  into  an  open  chair,  martini  sliding  towards  her  without  even  needing  to  order.  damn.  “  thank  you.  ”  she  replies.  it’s  not  long  before  another  joins  her,  and  gen  glances  out  the  side  of  her  eye  to  see  who  it  is.  “  i’d  ask  what  you’re  drinking,  but  i  have  a  feeling  you’ll  have  a  drink  slide  to  you  before  you  speak.  ”  and  sure  enough,  the  bartender  does  it  again.

nova  tech  was  headquartered  in  central  london,  a  beautiful  glass  tower  amongst  the  rest  of  the  sky  scrapers.  hanna’s  office  was  near  the  top,  a  beautiful  view  of  the  river  thames  and  the  rest  of  the  taller  buildings  around.  hanna  hadn’t  wanted  the  tallest  building,  just  the  space  they  needed  for  the  company.  early  in  the  morning  hanna  refrained  from  allowing  anything  on  her  calendar,  enjoying  the  sunlight  streaming  into  her  office  and  reviewing  the  newspaper.  the  sound  of  steps  echoing  towards  her  drew  a  brow,  few  people  would  come  see  her  now,  even  fewer  allowed  past  her  secretary.  her  expression  remains  curious  when  the  face  is  revealed,  but  hanna  at  least  folds  her  paper  and  sets  it  down.  “  early  morning  visits  ?  what  can  i  do  for  you,  my  favorite  sister  ?  ”

“  i’ve  been  asked  if  having  a  father  as  a  tailor  gets  me  any  special  treatment.  ”  rhys  begins,  buttoning  the  new  shirt  he  was  picking  up  to  try  it  out.  his  father  never  got  his  measurements  wrong,  this  was  more  because  he  wanted  to  feel  the  new  material  than  to  ensure  it  was  the  proper  size.  “  i’m  sure  you  can  imagine  what  i  often  reply.  ”  he  could  be  a  cheeky  little  shit,  rhys  usually  smarted  off  to  people  or  told  them  to  figure  it  out  themselves.  

maps  in  hand,  siri  intends  to  memorize  every  inch  of  london  while  she  can.  her  photographic  memory  did  a  lot  of  work  as  is,  but  she  found  walking  it  could  also  prove  to  be  the  best  course  of  action.  the  adjudicator  refused  to  be  caught  off  guard.  normally  much  more  graceful,  she  manages  to  make  a  misstep,  papers  in  hand  and  raising  in  her  annoyance  at  herself.  siri  peeks  up,  and  is  grateful  she’s  avoided  stepping  on  another’s  toes.  “  apologies.  i  think  my  map  is  outdated.  ”  which  was  also  equally  as  annoying.  

"  the  bastion  should  really  invest  in  a  cafe.  "  rhys  says  as  he  cradles  his  cup  of  tea,  a  cup  he  brewed  in  his  room  and  took  down  to  enjoy  in  the  lobby.  plenty  of  people  passed  along  this  space  and  while  little  shared  was  useful,  rhys  did  so  enjoy  the  people  watching.  “  a  nice  cup  of  tea  goes  a  long  way.  ”  adds  he.

standing  on  a  balcony  at  the  bastion  felt  like  an  entirely  different  world.  the  city  around  them  had  no  idea  about  the  criminal  underworld  that  lay  beneath  their  noses.  pulling  out  his  cigarettes, he  flips  open  the  top  and  offers  a  silent  cuss.  of  course  he  lost  his  lighter.  just  as  he’s  about  to  slip  the  vice  back  into  his  pocket  the  door  to  the  balcony  sounds,  and  rhys  has  a  bit  of  hope.  “  please  tell  me  you  have  a  light.  ”

slipping  out  of  her  cherry  red  car,  the  girl  with  matching  hair  scans  across  the  crowded  lot.  she  knew  better  than  to  dive  into  an  unknown  organization,  but  here  she  was  all  the  same.  the  princess  from  the  west  coast  was  a  faceless  nobody  here,  she  could  do  what  she  loved  and  nobody  batted  an  eye.  glancing  to  someone  near  by  she  offers  a  grin,  "  do  you  know  if  there  are  any  open  slots  for  tonight  ?  "  she'd  been  wracking  up  quite  the  number  of  wins  in  the  past  few  months,  but  lux  still  waited  until  the  last  minute  to  sign  up.

"  your  files  are...  impressive.  "  siri  hadn't  been  to  the  uk  library  in  years.  she  certainly  hadn't  perused  files  in  a  few  months.  the  adjudicator  hadn't  been  sent  on  a  case,  finding  herself  in  london  was  a  change  of  pace.  instead  of  taking  a  break  like  she  should  be,  siri  was  deep  diving  into  the  files  of  all  the  little  criminals  in  the  area.  best  to  know  who  to  avoid,  who  to  enjoy,  and  who  to  play  with.  "  tell  me,  do  you  have  them  on  all  the  employees  of  the  bastion  as  well  ?  "  she  imagined  yes,  but  also  knew  she  shouldn't  look  at  the  manager  or  concierge  just  yet.

a  hefty  sigh  slips  from  matteo's  lips  as  he  hears  of  yet  another  attempted  fight  in  the  nightclub.  after  breaking  up  the  one  between  valentina  the  other  night,  it's  like  people  were  itching  for  something.  speaking  of...  ending  the  call,  the  consigliere  pushes  up  from  his  desk  and  slips  out  into  the  gym,  eying  the  floor  until  he  spots  the  familiar  dark  haired  fighter  he  still  had  yet  to  lecture.  the  man  looks  entirely  out  of  place  in  the  gym,  done  up  in  a  suite  and  polished  shoes  that  click  as  he  walks  across  the  floor.  but  matteo  likes  it  this  way,  he  likes  his  office  being  in  the  place  he  can  closely  watch  the  misbehaved.  “  miss  antonini.  a  word  ?  ”
