CROxjam 2013 - thanks to everyone who took part!
CROxjam is Croydon's annual celebration of local musical talent. It's a four-day festival this year, with well over 100 bands, singers and comedians set to play at venues across the town and throughout the borough.
In 2012 we raised nearly £5,000 for Oxfam, which is the charity supported by the many Oxjam events that take place across the country each October.
Some venues will be free entry, others will have a small charge on the door (£5). However if you want to be sure of getting in anywhere just buy a £10 wristband. We will also run raffles and there should be some great prizes on offer.
What is amazing about Croydon is how many bands and musicians there are in the area who want to take part. Our long-list ran to over 250, which is frankly fantastic.
Tell us if you are going to be coming along by signing up to our Facebook event page, that way we can keep you posted with announcements:

Scorpiane's Scorpified Soulful twist on Pharrell type beat Songwriter/Topliner Competition (by ScorpianeGayle)
"The escaped sheep" is the best way to describe the uniqueness of Scorpiane. Style, ability and an insight into a plethora of audiences ranging from the quirky, adrenaline driven to the mellow conservative listener, and can demonstrate a musical fusion of R&B, Pop, Hiphop, acoustic to the electronic, dance and funky house. Not only a gifted singer, Scorpiane writes, musically and vocally arranges, produces, dances and dabs in the occasional rap flow as well. "The escaped sheep", Curious? Well, Scorpiane has the profound self-belief to go against the mass grain to achieve optimum results, and stand out amongst the masses. Scorpiane has barely scratched the surface of her artistic potential. She is currently working on new album, snippets of some of these songs can be listen to on the her Myspace link below....So watch this space and prepare to be blown away by the 'breath of fresh air' that is Scorpiane. Rumour has it that now is her time!
Monitor Sound - Battle (live) (by MonitorSound)
Monitor Sound, based in London, UK, was formed in 2004. An acoustic sound dominates the music, bringing rich melody and harmony to the soft and hard phrases of the music. Monitor Sound has since undergone many changes in the line-up. The band has always been fronted by and played material written by Chris Matthews (guitar and vocals) and Matthew Edkins (piano and bass), whilst original members included James O'Leary (drums) and Matthew Fowkes (lead guitar). The band broke up in 2006 as its members left to go to Universities across the UK or fulfil work commitments. Between 2006 - 2009 Chris attended Lancaster University where, through the nurturing musical atmosphere of the University, he continued to write and perform as a solo artist. In 2009 Chris was joined by Andrew Hudson who provided bass accompaniment and contributed to the song writing process. It was through this involvement and Andrew's talent in recording and mastering that the album "Noises" was finalised. "Noises" is a collection of music predominantly written during Chris' time at University, charting his experiences of young adult-hoot, the most poignant of which being "Love Remain" - written about a friend who took his own life. The album also featured the ever popular "LEDC" and "Deserve", originally written in 2004. The album was produced and recorded by Andrew Hudson and Chris Matthews with valuable contributions from local student musicians James Pemberton and Kelvin Lee over the course of 2 months. Currently the band is working on new material which is due to be released in a 2nd album in mid-2012. Whilst "Noises" was focused more around the acoustic guitar, the next album (currently untitled) will be more focused on the piano and will feature more classical instruments. In the mean-time, Monitor Sound are performing at venues across London and Europe with their 2 man line-up but have guest performances from local classical musicians.

Questions with the Kunst - The Devil Cocks (by MotleyKunst)
You can blame the Reverend Trevilcock for starting the band. He and Millsey dragged Steve into a rehearsal studio bound and gagged. Steve wasn't unwilling, he just likes being bound and gagged. Johnny Xed came to record them one day and found out he was in the band. United by their common hatred of wimpy chart music, they heard the population's anguished cries for Punk Rock Oikishness and strode forth to champion louts everywhere. They've been making loud noises ever since.
Meet The Devil Cocks: Johnny Xed is the shoutist. His super-powers are the ability to fall over onstage and to make Skol Super Strength Lager vanish before amazed onlookers. The Vaguely (but not very) Reverend Trevilcock plays with his four-skin bass (whilst imbibing vodka via intravenous drip). Steve Vain, AKA, "The Rim" on posturing and throwing his hair back. Has been know to play the guitar on occasion too. His refusal to repair any of his equipment is a rigid and deeply-held personal belief, but javing learned to solder, he is finally ditching the blu-tac and simplfying his epiphone les pauls to perfect weapons of sonic disfunction.
Keith Teeth presents "Lady Man Lady" (by TheKeithTeethShow)
One man. One lady. A guitar. Vocals. Crafting intricate intimacy from the most basic of building blocks, LADY MAN LADY are a tour de force of emotive acoustic folk.
The Hipster Ray: DAVE (by captainhipsterray)
"Unlike many ‘good time’ bands, the Hipsters combination of ska, punk and a whole lot more is underpinned by the kind of genuinely good songwriting that means the tunes will linger, long after the hangover has subsided and your dancing feet have stopped aching.”
The Smokos - Sheila (Jamie T) @ The Cavendish Arms (by Grace Cowlard)
A cover band with a plethoric catalogue of songs spanning the last six decades... available for pubs, parties, BBQ's, births, marriges and pirate themed events! twitter: @The_Smokos email: [email protected]
The Renounds - Take What You Have
This a foot stomping, guitar driven rant of a tune!
Founded in 2011 they are close knit group who have worked hard to develop a tight rocking electric sound that draws from many influences past and present. The Beatles, Stones, Neil Young, Stone Roses, Oasis, Doves and Kasabian to name but a few. They believe making a wall of sound, over driven guitars, driving drum beats and bass lines with melodic vocals!...
