Akudama Drive episode 7 was pretty pog king shit. Brother and Sister’s backstory was pretty predictable and in many ways not that necessary, but I mean, using dead children to fuel immortality is stil fucked up and cements Kanto as being real motherfuckers, and the show’s generally great direction keeps the scene entertaining. The double reveal that they’re going to the moon but also that the moon is fake because the real one blew up is certainly, it’s really great, I’m a big fan. Like that’s just funny, I think there’s a certain comedic tragedy to it that only works because both ideas are introduced in the same episode. Also, I think early on like, I sort of expected that they’d keep all the Akudama together, they’d bounce back and forth off of one another for the whole season, and potentially become a group of fast friends, but I really respect how hard the show’s committing to fucking up the dynamics in some way. I do expect Hacker to make a return still, but Brawler is like, actually fucking dead. And it’s taking a toll on Hoodlum and his place in the group by extension. Which is causing him to run up against the wall with Courier and his “keep your feelings out of work” mantra. And then Doctor like, actually fucking betrayed everyone. She’s very ready to kill all these people she’s been travelling with for the past 7 episodes for a shot at clearing her name. It’s kinda fucked but I really like it. Cool episode, cool show. I think, another fear I lowkey had from that group dynamic I expected the show to have is that Swindler and Courier end up together, just because it’s an easy ship, but at this rate I expect we’ll soon really learn why that just wouldn’t work. Fun time.
