For a five-year-old, using omAkoppa’s lovely circle block:
The idea was to use leftover yarn in Veronika’s favourite colours.
And a wee flower for fastening:
She liked it, I think.

Crochet headband, square pattern No 14
Turtle tee
I've been thinking about making a crochet top out of circles for a long time. Since I don't have the patience to do it all just in crochet, the idea of combining fabric and crochet fits the bill -- again. I love the crochet-fabric combo, because you can upcycle old clothes or use up fabric scraps, plus it gives you the chance to create something unique.
So for this project I used less then a yard (I think it was some 70 cm) of knitted fabric I found in the scraps bin in a fabric shop, and cotton yarn in some of my favourite colours.
The pattern is the usual 12 dc -24 dc - 36 dc.
For the shirt, I used a kimono/dolman sleeve top I love to wear. I didn't have enough fabric to do the continuous sleeve, so I used leftover strips.
Here you can see how much of the fabric was missing for a full-sized top. I used up literally every centimeter of it.
It turns out i needed 60 circles (here there are only 58). Luci is fully involved in the creative process, as always.
And then comes the joining ... argh. Anyway, it's kind of mindlessly therapeutic, so it's all good.
And here's the finished project. The circles kind of look like the turtle shell, but when I wear it they are nice and flat.
My next project: an A-line skirt to go with it. And this is the fabric.
I love it.
