Ivy smiles and squeezes her arm reassuringly.
Good, because I already did! Let's sit.
They lead her to a booth. The night air is pleasant in the canopied bar and the lighting is low and intimate with candles on the table. There's some pretty ukulele music driving over the soundsystem.
My day was...fine. Ready for a drink, you know? How about yours?
Crimson grins as Ivy squeezes their arm. They love little affectionate things like that. “You did? That’s so sweet.” They say with a small chuckle.
Crimson sits down at the booth with a contented sigh. It’s beautiful in here and they love ukulele music.
“I didn’t do much today, you know? A lot of drawing, really. So I am so ready to just have fun tonight. You wanna tell me about your day?” Crimson asks. Their hands tap on the menu as they speak.
Drawing! You have to tell me what you're working on. That's, like, 90% of what I do, haha.
Ivy's fingers the hook in her choker, fiddling with it absentmindedly as she looks at the menu, occasionally stealing glances up at Crimson. She's so pretty...
Oh, just a long day at work. I just started at a tattoo parlor. It's not my first choice for a job. More like my last choice... But money is money, you know? It's like the fast food of tattooing. I got handed a book to work from and I just do what people order. Not a lot of thinking or creativity involved. Scheduled breaks, and I even have to wear a stupid uniform, ugh.
Sorry, I'm venting.
It was nice to vent to someone, actually, though they didn't want to make a bad impression.
Crimson shakes their head. “No, it’s fine, I asked about it cause I wanted to hear about it. And I’m a little glad you’re so comfortable venting to me.” They say. “And yeah, that sounds like it kinda sucks. I hope you’re able to get a better situation soon.” Crimson sighs.
They browse the menu casually, keeping the majority of their attention on Ivy.
“I’ve always wanted tattoos. I just never had a good position financially to really get the ones I wanted.”
Crimson shrugs. “I’ll get them someday I guess.”
Eh, at least it's a job. Next stop, a real flat so I can stop living out of my suitcase, haha.

They’re startled when the drinks come in, having been enraptured by the conversation. They take their drink gratefully and order a Hamachi Scallion Roll.
“So are you planning on getting a flat here in LA?” Crimson asks, taking a sip of their drink. “That’s gonna be really expensive… I wouldn’t be able to live in LA if it wasn’t for Lucifer. Actually, it’s been a while since I’ve paid for my own place to live…”
Ivy smiles at them and laughs.
The friend discount is pretty liberal. I'd say, if you're not begging for fake kanji that probably reads 'stupid tourist' while I'm wearing itchy polyester in a hot shop, you can qualify.

Well, my mum...er... died, recently. Her brother, my uncle, lives in Orange County. I thought I'd move out to be close to him and his kids, but... He's not exactly accommodating that idea. Doesn't want much to do with the Walker ladies. But I don't have family left in London, so I might as well stay and see what happens here. A clean slate, you know? Anyway, it's worked okay so far!

Crimson grins as Ivy squeezes their arm. They love little affectionate things like that. “You did? That’s so sweet.” They say with a small chuckle.
Crimson sits down at the booth with a contented sigh. It’s beautiful in here and they love ukulele music.
“I didn’t do much today, you know? A lot of drawing, really. So I am so ready to just have fun tonight. You wanna tell me about your day?” Crimson asks. Their hands tap on the menu as they speak.
Drawing! You have to tell me what you're working on. That's, like, 90% of what I do, haha.
Ivy's fingers the hook in her choker, fiddling with it absentmindedly as she looks at the menu, occasionally stealing glances up at Crimson. She's so pretty...
Oh, just a long day at work. I just started at a tattoo parlor. It's not my first choice for a job. More like my last choice... But money is money, you know? It's like the fast food of tattooing. I got handed a book to work from and I just do what people order. Not a lot of thinking or creativity involved. Scheduled breaks, and I even have to wear a stupid uniform, ugh.
Sorry, I'm venting.
It was nice to vent to someone, actually, though they didn't want to make a bad impression.
Crimson shakes their head. “No, it’s fine, I asked about it cause I wanted to hear about it. And I’m a little glad you’re so comfortable venting to me.” They say. “And yeah, that sounds like it kinda sucks. I hope you’re able to get a better situation soon.” Crimson sighs.
They browse the menu casually, keeping the majority of their attention on Ivy.
“I’ve always wanted tattoos. I just never had a good position financially to really get the ones I wanted.”
Crimson shrugs. “I’ll get them someday I guess.”
Eh, at least it's a job. Next stop, a real flat so I can stop living out of my suitcase, haha.
Ivy's smile broadens a little more.
You know, I offer a deep friends and family discount. Actually I like to just trade or gift tattoos to people I know, payment makes things weird. I'd be more than happy to discuss ideas with you, especially if it means we could talk again...
The server comes to bring their drinks and takes their order. Ivy orders a spicy tuna roll.
“Oh, so I’m a friend then?” Crimson teases. “I’d love that, actually. I have a few ideas.”
They’re startled when the drinks come in, having been enraptured by the conversation. They take their drink gratefully and order a Hamachi Scallion Roll.
“So are you planning on getting a flat here in LA?” Crimson asks, taking a sip of their drink. “That’s gonna be really expensive… I wouldn’t be able to live in LA if it wasn’t for Lucifer. Actually, it’s been a while since I’ve paid for my own place to live…”
Ivy smiles at them and laughs.
The friend discount is pretty liberal. I'd say, if you're not begging for fake kanji that probably reads 'stupid tourist' while I'm wearing itchy polyester in a hot shop, you can qualify.
She slips her drink, still smiling at Crimson.
Mmm! I was right about the turmeric and carrot. That is delish.
Yeah, I keep hearing about Lucifer and his generosity with rooms at Lux. Must be nice... I know it would be nice to have a place I could practice...Well. M q.ore non-traditional tattoo.
She looks away, down at her drink, and then back up at them.
So does bartending pay the rest of your bills, then? Is that a full-time gig?
“Yeah, it does.” They say, then pause. “Well… my tuition is covered already. Bartending pays for everything else. While I was still living alone in Gotham, it covered my rent too.”
They sigh softly. “Glad that’s over. You know, you could probably ask Lucifer about a room. Even if you don’t wanna stay there permanently… I know *i’d* be eager to have you there longer.” I chuckle. “Might be a little selfish of me, though.”
Crimson takes another small sip of their drink. They’re trying to pace themself.
They shrug, sipping slowly. The drink is so good it's hard not to.
Can't say I wouldn't like to be around more, either. I already hang out there to draw sometimes. I haven't really managed to get ahold of the management yet, though. And he doesn't really have any reason to just give me a room, anyway.
They shrug dismissively, waving it off.
I'll be fine. You're a student too? What are you studying? And how's your drink by the way? You know, professionally speaking.
She grins and chuckles.
“I could ask for you if you want. If you don’t, though, that’s fine too. No pressure, right?” They offer.
“I’m studying psychology, though I took a bit of a break this semester. A lot happened last semester and I kinda needed some time to… heal.” They say, folding their arms a little tighter and avert their gaze.
“The drinks really good. I’m enjoying it.”
Aw. I'm sorry to hear that. i hope it helped to take a break.
*ivy tilts her head sympathetically.*
Psychology sounds really interesting. I never went to uni, just started apprenticing. School never agreed with me. Though I think I'd study art, if I ever decided to go back.
Don't worry about it. I think I'll hassle Lucifer myself again, see if I can get ahold of him. He must be busy, right? Rulling hell and all.
“Yeah, I’m sure he is busy.” Crimson says. “He doesn’t talk much about his work. Didn’t really answer when I asked about it.”
Crimson takes another sip of their drink. “There’s no rush to go back to school, especially since it seems like you’ve already got a career you’re working on. You won’t ever have to.”
“I’m not really sure college is for me, but I gotta have a degree if I wanna professionally help people, you know?” They admit. “I just want to help people like me.”
Yeah, it's not something I'm looking for right now. I have thought about doing some studio work, though. Maybe holding a show. It's sort of a dream of mine. And studying art, even just a few classes, would help with that, I think. But like you said, I'm just enjoying my career right now. Well, I'm enjoying tattooing, not necessarily the location, haha.
What'd you mean, like you? What do you want to help with? Oh! Here's our sushi.
The server sets down pretty plates of sushi rolls with elegant flower and sauce decorations.
“Oh my god, this is beautiful! I love good presentation.” Crimson says as they pull their plate closer to them. “And I mean like me because I’ve struggled with mental health for my whole life.” They explain.
They take another sip of their drink before trying the sushi. Crimson’s eyes roll back in delight. “This is amazing! You picked a good place, Ivy!”
I know, right? It's so pretty! I love a fancy little dish. I haven't been to a nice place in a while, thought a treat would be nice. Did you know there's a cabaret near here? And a really cute speakeasy.
Ivy tries hers, closing her eyes to chew.
Mmmm. So good.
They feel a pleasant flush coming on from the drink.
I guess I can say that, too. About the mental health stuff. But who can't, right?
Crimson chuckles softly. “Oh, are you inviting me?” They say as they take another bite of their sushi. “It really is good, isn’t it?”
“And you’re so right, there’s a lot of people struggling with mental health these days. It’s almost like there are some real problems in our society that need to be addressed.” Crimson sighs softly. “But that’s its own thing. I just wanna help people on a more personal level.”
“So what brought you to LA?” They ask.
Ivy smiles mischievously.
I wouldn't be mentioning it if I wasn't inviting you. We'll have to come see a show. I love burlesque. Also, now that I've seen the beach I want to come here, like, every day. This city is a little slice of paradise if you look in the right places.
Well, my mum...er... died, recently. Her brother, my uncle, lives in Orange County. I thought I'd move out to be close to him and his kids, but... He's not exactly accommodating that idea. Doesn't want much to do with the Walker ladies. But I don't have family left in London, so I might as well stay and see what happens here. A clean slate, you know? Anyway, it's worked okay so far!
Would you like to try my tuna roll before I finish it off?
She pushes her plate toward Crimson, offering it.
“I’ve actually never been to a show.” Crimson admits. “So yeah, you’ll have to take me. I’m not a huge fan of the water, but I like to lie in the sand.”
Their face falls at the bad news about Ivy’s family. “I’m sorry about your mom.” They say, running a hand through their hair. “I lost my family pretty recently, too. I guess I also got a clean slate that way.” They sigh deeply.
“I love spicy tuna.” They say, accepting the plate. “It was always my mom’s and my favorite.” They say as they take a piece. “Thank you. Would you like to try mine too?”

They pick up one of Crimson's pieces with their chopsticks.
I'm not a big swimmer, either. Maybe I'll turn into one, who knows? The beach is just so ...magical, haha. I love a show though. Dancing, music, anything with high energy. I used to mosh a bit, haven't in a while. I might see if I can find some local shows, now that I've got a paycheck coming in!
Mmm.
They close their eyes and enjoy the food, then open them and pick up their glass, tipping it towards Crimson's for a toast.
I know this is totally corny, but to clean starts?
“We should definitely do the beach and go to a show.” Crimson agrees, leaning back and relaxing. “I like to do high energy activities in moderation, but I love live music.”
Crimson raises their glass to clink with Ivy. “To clean starts.” They agree with a warm smile before drinking deeply from their glass. “It’s been really nice getting to know you. You’re a really cool person, Ivy.”
