#about lucifer

Important: This is a complete reinterpretation of mythology, based partly on the modern understanding of Lucifer as the serpent of Eden, partly on Prometheus from Greek mythology, with a smattering of other inspirations. The character is still under development, but I welcome any questions you may have.

Knowledge is no sin, and faith is no virtue.

Lucifer is the god of knowledge, choice, and discovery. He views humanity and their ilk as his children, and he is proud of their achievements and growth. After all, he has always been eager to see them grasp their full potential; fruit from the tree and fire from the gods. He rebelled to give them strength.

The war he lost with his brother El limited his ability and influence. For ages, he and his followers were banished to the dimensional pocket known as Hell, an uncomfortable piece of real estate for the veterans of a lost war. The winners wrote the history, twisted his name and his deeds in propaganda.

Saddened, but undeterred, Lucifer still likes to observe and sometimes help his children. He crafts himself a physical form and wanders, presenting as a philosopher, advisor, or scientist. He has even been mistaken for a holy man, in times past. His goal, interacting with humanity, is to provoke thought. Though he tries to be non-interventionist so as not to interfere with their choices and growth, sometimes he can’t help but offer a small hand.

Abilities (flexible)

He has some control over the nature of time. I wouldn’t say he is completely removed from the flow of cause and effect, but he is able to slow and speed certain aspects and he has some predictive capabilities.

He is a creator. Currently I believe him to be limiting himself in order to avoid attracting unwanted attention.

He has telepathic and empathic abilities, as well as a kind of claircognizance (not omniscience but it sometimes can appear similar.)

APPEARANCE

As a fallen angel, Lucifer is forced to forever take on physical form despite naturally being a creature of pure energy or light. However, there are two constants regardless of his form. The first being elaborate scarring along his back from having wings torn from his back as well as a limp, though the leg in which this occurs varies. These were spiritual wounds and thus cannot be healed or undone.

PERSONALITY

Lucifer is the brat prince, spoiled by his heavenly father only to be cast out. He is deeply bitter about being cast aside but stands by his convictions. He is a deep believer in free will and all the things his father’s faith would prefer to condemn.

NEED TO KNOWS

In many ways, I write Lucifer as a kind of parody of conservative American values. Ergo the Lucifer presented here is a feminist, sex-positive, pansexual and likes to be dominated by women in all meanings of the word. THAT’S THE JOKE.

Lucifer doesn’t reign over hell. He’ll only be cast into hell on Judgement Day. Which has not happened yet.

Also, I tend to rely heavily on Jewish sources for a lot of Lucifer’s canon. So if you have questions on anything please ask.

As a weird sidenote- I won’t be accepting any anti-christ children who aren’t daughters. It just doesn’t fit with my portrayal otherwise. I am open and willing to accept OC children of Lucifer though.

I’ve been re-watching Lucifer, and of course reading Lucifer fanfiction and I’ve come across a trope that I love, but that bothers the living hell out of me (pun intended.) I’ve noticed a trend of Lucifer getting angry and showing his nastier side to Chloe by accident, whether he’s angry at her, or at the bad guy of the week, or at the guy they’re questioning. I love it, because, like in Manly Whatnots, it makes Chloe question her reality, question Lucifer and I love it really. Yet, it bugs me, it bothers me so much when I read about it happening; Luci’s a little mad so he flashes some hell eyes at the villain and suddenly they’re pissing their pants, but Chloe is right next to him and oh no, reveal scene.

I finally figured out what bothers me so much about this. Lucifer is careful, he is so careful not to let the humans that he cares about, or innocent humans (by this I mean humans he deems are innocent; people he doesn’t feel deserve to see his face by means of punishment) see this darker side of him, to see the Devil. In Favorite Son his wings are stolen, and he talks to Dr. Martin about it. He’s angry, you can see the fury and the rage on his face, and she’s goading him on (admittedly she’d being manipulated by Amenadiel) but she keep goading him, and he gets more and more upset. He seemed to have himself pretty well under control until she begins calling him Samael, and then he screams at her and punches the wall. He frightens her terribly, but he doesn’t show her his devilish side, there isn’t even a flash of red eyes. There is anger, true anger, but he doesn’t show her his true face.

In Take Me Back to Hell he is yelling at the officers, he’s yelling at Chloe, but he doesn’t even flash his true face at them. Again he doesn’t even show his eyes to them, he just yells, and pretends he has a gun. Personally I believe that the fastest way to get them to shoot him might have been to show them his face (shoot the monster!). It could be argued that they would have just lost their minds and ran away and he wanted to get shot so he didn’t use his face. However, if he really wanted to scare Chloe off he might have used it.

He is pretty liberal using it on other people, or to get his way (see #TeamLucifer and Favorite Son), or using it on people he doesn’t think highly off, or wants to punish (see multiple ‘bad guys’ and the preacher in Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil), but he also seems able to direct these images at a certain person, while others don’t see his face (Again the preacher in Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil, and Benny Choy in Sweet Kicks.) The only reason Chloe saw his face in Manly Whatnots was because he was being careless because he had thought he’d locked her out.

In Monster he only shows Dr. Martin his face because he A: was having a moment of weakness, and B: she asked, she literally asked to she his face. He was mourning, and feeling guilty and needed someone to talk to, Dr. Martin was the person he opened up to and she didn’t take him seriously because she believed that the spoke in metaphors. She stated that she wanted to understand, and wanted him to be honest about “who [he is]” and he double checks and asks if she’s sure. She says yes, she asks that she not lie to her any more, she all but begs him to show his true self; and Lucifer, being in a position of weakness obliges her wish.

Lucifer shows her his face; and when he shows her, it’s not the usual flickering or horror show he treats the others too. It’s very calm, he shows her, and he stays that way long enough for it to sink in, where she doesn’t think it’s an illusion. He makes no sudden movements, he’s not trying to scare her he’s just showing his face to her. And Linda is still frightened by this, Lucifer still scares her, and he just gently smiles, understanding her response, and he leaves. He doesn’t continue to force himself on her, he knows that she needs space to process things, to take it in. He is very gentle with the situation when it happens. Honestly; I wouldn’t know how to convince her better; other than perhaps having Maze show her face to Dr. Martin.
