HOW TO MAKE A GIF SAVING ACTION.
Do you save all your gifs by hand? Why? That takes so much time. Be lazy. Make a saving action. Directions below. Troubleshooting/FAQ is at the very bottom. This will only work if you make gifs with multiple files open, like using caps.
Estimated time to complete: 5 minutes.
Estimated time saved: Literal HOURS.
Step 1: Be sure to have at least 2 files open that you can save into gifs. Make sure the first file is selected.
Step 2: Press this button to make a new action.
Step 2: Name it and press record. I put “(10)” to remind me that this will save 10 gifs. You can make your action save as many/few gifs as you like.
Step 3: Save your first gif (File > Export > Save for web) with the default name photoshop gives you. Make a new folder just for your default named gifs to save them in.
Step 4: Click on the next document.
Step 5: Stop recording.
Step 6: Highlight your two steps in your action. There should only be two steps, and they should be called “Export” and “Select next document”
Step 7: Duplicate as many times as you want. In my case, I duplicate 9 times cause i want this atn to work for 10 gifs. Edit: You can now delete the last “select next document” step, and just have it end on your tenth “Export.”
Step 7: Run your atn! If you have less than 10 gifs, don’t worry, it’ll still save correctly. If you have more than 10, you’ll have to save any excess by hand, or run the action again.
Step 8: Go into your default folder and mass rename your 10 gifs. On a mac you highlight all, right click and choose “Rename 10 items…” If you’re Windows or Linux just google how.
I rename my gifs by adding the letter “A” to the beginning, and continuing through the alphabet with every set of gifs I make. This is what a folder looks like after 3 sets of gifs:
TROUBLESHOOTING.
MY PHOTOSHOP’S DEFAULT NAMES STOPS AT UNTITLED-10?
If you’re on Photoshop CC 2019 (or earlier?) you can only save a maximum of 10 gifs at a time, because any docs past the first 10 will be named Untitled-10. I don’t know of any way to fix this. I don’t know if CS5/CS6 does the same thing, feel free to comment if it does and I’ll update.
