anonymous asked me on my other blog how I made an edit like:
Done with Photoshop CS5 but it can be done with all versions.
Please like the post if you think the tutorial has been useful.
We’re going to start out with choosing a screen capture from any TV show or movie you’d like. I’m going to go with this one from Glee. For the graphic shown above, I very specifically chose to go with captures of people that either have their mouths open (teeth shown), where their eyes are very visible or both.
Now, make a new document in Photoshop with a size you like and paste your screen capture in it. Crop it in a way that you like and Smart Sharpen it (Amount 500 - Radius 0,3 - Remove Gaussian Blur - More Accurate checked). What I have now:
Now, we’re going to turn the white around the eyes red. You’re going to have to make a new layer on top of your background (the picture) layer and set it to Darken. You’re going to take a small brush (I used a 3px brush and set the Hardness to 100%) and choose a dark red color. I went with #2e0000 and with that you start coloring in the white space. If it looks a little too strong, play around with the opacity a bit until you’re satisfied. What I have now:
For the next few steps we will need certain captures from the Vampire Diaries that show their fangs and the splotches (I’m not sure what they call them?) under the eyes. I usually search through homeofthenutty’s TVD screen capture archive hereto find something that matches my screen capture. For this picture I’ve chosen this for the fangs and this for the splotches.
We’re going to start with adding the fangs. Copy the TVD screen capture you’ll be using onto your Photoshop document and cut out the fangs with the Polygonal Lasso Tool like this (Layer via Copy):
Do this with both fangs and remove the original layer. You’re going to have to move and resize the fangs until they match the background’s teeth. I adjusted the Brightness/Contrast a bit as well, so that the colors were more in contrast with the background picture. What I have now:
For this tutorial I’m not going to explain how to do the blood trailing down their lips because it’s almost the same progress as with the eye splotches. What’s most important with these edits is that the fangs and splotches colors match your picture, otherwise it won’t look as convincing. For the splotches I’m pasting the Vampire Diaries picture I choose on the document and cut them out of it like this:
Quinn’s face is turned the opposite way of Katherine’s so I have to flip the splotches (Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal) and after that I’m going to resize them and put them in place under Quinn’s eyes and Smart Sharpen them so it looks like this:
Now you’re going to have to use the Eraser to erase parts of the splotches. The Hardness of the Eraser is going to be at 0% and turn the Opacity of it to something like 25%. The size I used for the Eraser was 30. And you start erasing parts until it looks more like this:
Of course the color of the splotches is completely off from Quinn’s skin color so to adjust that I played around with the Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance as well as set the layer to Darken and played around with the Opacity of it. There is no exact way of doing this, you really just have to play around with those Adjustments so it looks more like this:
Basically all you have to do now is add a PSD or any color to finish it! I hope this helped!
