Ke$ha ft. will.i.am - Crazy Kids

Am I the only one deeply horrified by this video? So I’ve been a pretty big Ke$ha fan since the beginning when she released “Right Round” with flo, so I was excited to see how the video for “Crazy Kids” would turn out. When it popped up on Vevo for me a minute ago, I booted it up pretty excitedly, and the horror commenced almost immediately.

I was initially surprised but not deeply offended to see Ke$ha in a hoodie with a “$” on the back of it and donning dyed cornrows and a large number of chains as she walked into a house of only black people with a car outside bouncing from its amps. I sighed a bit, and shook my head but then suddenly this happened about a minute in:

And my jaw dropped. It had gone from merely being somewhat offensive to incredibly so. Golden hoops, grills, huge sunglasses, all in ADDITION to the dyed cornrows for her hair and the hoodie and chains. Basically trying to seem “hood rich” and making a mockery of black people.

And this, please note, is what she and the directors chose to define as “CRAZY,” because, ladies and gentleman, of course anything black is so beyond the pale and ridiculous to the point of being funny for a white person.

The video has other terrible moments like this where (of course) she has pitbulls to complete her black look:

And then, of course, when she leaves the house and goes outside to meet other white people (yay!) suddenly her “crazy” look switches to this and becomes more “posh”, because she no longer seemed to need all of her “black” attire and hair styling:

THIS POST FUCKING PROVES THAT YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE! LIKE WHAT THE HELL! I spent my childhood fearing African-Americans because I was afraid they’d hurt me. Why? Because they made me cry for not knowing a fucking rap song. Because they told my best friend that she and I couldn’t be friends because I was white. Because I was the weird kid. Because they all constantly laughed in my face.

Just recently am I making friends who are black, and that’s only two boys who are sweet enough to realize that the world is a nice place if you make it nice.

Don’t assume those you intend to help even wanted your help.

You are not there to ‘help’ anyone. Help assumes you are in authority and they depend on you.

You are there to work with people.

Those people are not charity cases: they are human beings with feelings history and personal identities.  Like you. Treat them as such.

That means stop thinking its so goddamn ’beautiful’ to hold a black child’s hand or ‘inspiring’ when you wear their clothes and practice their customs or ‘amazing’ when you see a person wear western clothes.

You’re exotifying people based on racist and ignorant ideas you had of them. Go back to no. 4

The people you work with don’t exist to make you/your life look better.

Don’t assume you know what’s best for them.  Ask. Listen.

Listen to them more than those you view as your ‘equals’ (fellow volunteers/white ppl)

Don’t expect those you work with to be thankful to you.  They didn’t ask you to work with them in the first place. 

You are not there to ‘save the day’.

Treat them the way you treat your friends; be there for them when they want/need you, offer advice but don’t act butthurt if they don’t take it. 

You do not have all the answers.  Nobody does. So don’t act like you do. It shows. 

Don’t describe those you work with as ‘underprivileged’ or other demeaning  eurocentric words.  What you are doing is comparing your own life to theirs and assuming everyone wants the type of life you have. Go back to no. 6 & 7

And the reason trans women are murdered most of the time is because a cis man doesn’t “think” when this shit happens - he gets fucking angry. The trap scenario can kill a MAAB trans person and people are using it to make points that only benefit cis women. 

Shitty attitudes about lesbians include believing or behaving as though lesbians are:

More masculine than other women

I mean these kinds of cishet women will say “ugh lesbians/queer women might come on to me!!!”
