For years I've run most work and/or solo trips packing a bedroll with me. Which has proven useful when sleeping in the back of the 4Runner or in a not so great hotel. One of the best additions to this part of my kit has been a wool Pendleton blanket. #pendletonblanket
As idiotic knife laws sweep through England I am reminded of this passage from "Never Give In!" The Best of Winston Churchill's Speeches as selected by his Grandson. In the preface he related this story his mother told him. In early May or June 1940, Hitler was preparing to launch Operation Sealion, code for the invasion of Britain. Churchill sat at the dinner table one night. Silent and angry until he finally growled at his daughter "If the Hun comes, I am counting on each one of you to take one with you before you go!" "But Papa", exclaimed my mother, "I don't have a gun and, even if I did, I would not know how to use it." "But, my dear," rejoined my grandfather, his voice held high: "You can go to the kitchen and grab a carving knife!"
Having just arrived at my door I am reminders of what famed gun writer Skeeter Skelton once quipped "my holster maker is as important to me as my doctor". @barrantileather certainly fills this role. Pictured is the second iteration of the Barranti Life Changer. #barrantileather #barrantilifechanger
So a few years ago I picked up an Esee Izula II and really liked it. Always on the search for the "right" knife to have available for work, travel, and life I finally picked up an Esee 3 with the sharpened back edge.

I find it profoundly interesting that we live in a society that will readily blame inanimate objects for the evil some men commit. Yet we refuse to look at outside influences. It is forbidden to suggest that movies, games, fictional characters could influence, over time, a person's character to commit an atrocity. Yet consequently we talk about wanting our kids involved in "the arts" or sports, because classical music, the theater, good gamesmanship are all seen as desirous ideals for a thriving society. Therefore if "good art" influences and creates "good people" then one has to surmise that "negative arts" have their own and, mirrored impact upon the individual.
Working on a forth coming article for @shooting_illustrated, as most know I'm not a Glock fanboy. I remained convinced that folks who love Glocks have never had handguns with good triggers. The factory trigger on my 1990s vintage Smith & Wesson 442 (no dash) is silky smooth.
In 1950 an article appeared in the Women's Home Companion titled "The Toy that kills" sparking a national debate on switchbladed knives. Democrats and a sensational press...along with Hollywood demonized the folding knife that had been around and in common use since the early turn of the century. Finally in 1958, Democrats passed the Switchblade Knife Act of 1958...in order to save America from youth gangs. One can only imagine how much good the law did to save America in the 1980s from the Bloods and the Crips.
Since July (2017) my daily carry gun has been this @smithwessoncorp 686+ . Trying to wrap up my thoughts on it for my article in @shooting_illustrated. I have nothing but great things to say about it and, it takes A LOT for me to willingly stick my beloved Colt Combat Commander in the safe for 8 months. The longest I've ever not carried a 1911. #filson #spyderconative5

I remain convinced there are two types of people in the world. The First types have never encountered actual danger or circumstances that are so potentially lethal that they fail to grasp how fast life can end. Then there are the Second Types, who can tell you that 14 and a half seconds can be a lifetime.

So after years of wearing cotton bandannas over my mouth in the winter @filson1897 finally came out with a great looking (masculine) silk scarf. Which worked out perfectly on today's small game hunt when it was 12 degrees. #silkdoesntfreeze

One of my favorite things to collect are vintage books on firearms and hunting stories. This particular one, Outdoor Life's The Story of American Hunting and Firearms, was published in 1959, and is a Christmas gift from the Wife.
