I love how they unknowingly accomplished the ‘wearing-your-boyfriend’s-shirt’ trope in episode 3, lol. I don’t know if this is considered a thing in Japan as it is here in the US, especially during high school. It’s sad that these two could not have met at a different time in their lives, or could not be 100% honest about what (and who) they did behind the other’s back before the seeds of doubt were planted, otherwise they might have mutually had something. I italicized that word because while I’m sure Hanabi started having feelings for Mugi, it’s unclear if he felt as strongly about her since we were only in Hanabi’s narrative at the time.

Whether he felt something at all, he still chose a woman he couldn’t have over her, and I think a part of that has to do with the seeds of doubt planted in his mind by Sanae and how they could have made him doubtful of the existence of any kind of genuine love just when it could have had a chance to grow between him and Hanabi.
