FYGA 2021 - a.k.a the wet one!
The 2021 edition reminded many of us of the Hollywood blockbuster film Waterworld. It was mostly done in water, and was plagued by delays...see what I did there? For those reading this Tumblr in 20 years time ('cos the platform will still be around then!), in the years 2019 - 2021 the world was consumed by a plague and subsequent zombie apocalypse (but we still got to play some golf).
The drama unfolded even before a shot was struck when:
Seb kneecapped HIS OWN WIFE just to get out of having a 50 handicap!
Wilf was at his weakest when, after half a Shandy at the pub the week before, Adam convinced him to gift the Aussies an extra point for the President’s cup - would Wilf regret the half a Shandy? We’ll see!
8 brave warriors decided to take on the elements this year and we welcomed newcomer Johnny (check out his Lebs on League podcast!)
Tournament Round 1
Adam hit the lights out and scored a whopping 38 points playing off 8. I had the pleasure of watching this round - it was golfing excellence! N00b Johnny came 2nd (33) with Brett and Wilf tying for 3rd (30).
The calcutta is always a highlight and this time was no exception with Charl over-reaching to get a 2 shot reduction and leaving with nothing, and everyone expecting Craig to ask for mercy only to be told that coming last was all part of the plan, and a comeback worthy of song was afoot!
There was fierce betting with Jules putting $70 on Adam, Adam betting against himself and on Johnny and Ant (via phone) scooping up Brett for a cool $30. Rob believed Craig’s story and put a whopping $10 on him to win...silly silly billy...a touch under $300 in the kitty for the winner!
Tournament Round 2
The rain continued to fall...and fall...and fall
Putting became harder!
Craig, Charl and Jules turned their form around from yesterday and rocketed up the leaderboard. There were concerns amongst the group that Craig was indeed correct and songs would be written about the come-from-behind win. Alas his star shone bright, but as we’ll no doubt see, it went out just as fast.
President’s Cup
The Aussies came out confident and resplendent in their matching team colours
This clearly had the desired outcome as the Aussies were to take out the President’s Cup YET AGAIN...oh and remember the Shandy incident in the pub - The Aussies one by a single point! Thanks Wilfy!
Wilf clearly wasn’t happy about this and took it out on the trophy
Tournament Round 3
This is double-points round...also known as the “Jesson”...and the rain persisted! So much so we couldn’t finish the round (we had to stop at hole 15)
Despite the conditions, we had some pretty high scores amongst the group with Adam, Brett and Charl taking the day’s honours.
Overall Adam a.k.a “The Champ” a.k.a “DP” a.k.a “Double Points” Jesson showed the true class he has and was a deserving winner of the Purple Jacket for the third time. We also had a 3-way (3some?) tie for 2nd with Brett, then Wilf taking out 2nd and 3rd.
Final Scores:
This will go down in history as the wettest KV FYGA event on record - well done gents on a great three days!
