A month ago I was asking reddit for recommendations on cutting paper into smaller squares. Well, I found the right method and now I’m doing this. 4 cm squares cut from 24 cm kami. The cube took 162 squares total (plus a few for mistakes.)
I followed this method which left- and right-handed sonobe units and then flaps of one cube tuck into pockets of the next (mirror imaged) cube.
"Ninja Star" tessellation, which I came up with today. The photos show the basic pattern and the tessellated form, against the light and front lit (different sides). Someone may have come up with this already (I'm not well versed in existing patterns) but it's new to me. #origami #tessellation
My ebay copy of “Unit Origami Essence” finally made it out of Japan and supposedly arrived in Los Angeles.
(I think that title is just the conventional English translation, because the book was never actually translated or published under that name, but that’s what the English-speaking community calls it.)
Unit Origami Essence and my pack of Skytone paper (for tessellations) are both out for delivery today :D
Dude this tessellation stuff is crazy. I feel like I don’t fully understand this intellectually, but I have a vague feel for it. I’m learning to put a twist on the reverse side when there’s already a pleat intersection. I pick the right spot and mess with it and then the paper just kind of *wants* to fall into the right direction of the twist. Spooky.
I have a pack of paper coming in the mail that’s supposed to be better for tessellations (stiffer, more resistant to tearing.)

252 squares of 4 cm and only one I considered not salvageable from a messed up cut. I’m gonna make a soma cube with these.

some fern embroidery for spring <3
i’m going to an ostara celebration today! this is the second time that i’ve embroidered ferns, and i’m happy with how it turned out. i started with a darker green and integrated a lighter color as i got closer to the ends of the fronds to create a gradient :)

Icosahedron :)
I can see why Tuttle brand paper has mixed reviews, and I did tear one of the corners during assembly, but honestly, the patterns are pretty and I love having this much paper for modulars.
This is made from thirty 11 cm squares. The pattern is from pg 116 of “Unit Origami Essence.” I like this book enough I paid the big bucks on eBay for a paper copy to be shipped from Japan, but god knows how long that will take, so for now I’m using the shitty pdf.
THE MOSS SPREADS 🍀
A reflection on grief
This jumper was inspired by grief, and the isolation that sometimes comes as a result of people seeing the depths and complexity of that grief. The creatures on the front are modelled on this cover of a horror novel I read nearly 2 years ago called Monstrilio, about a grieving mother who grows her 11 year old son from a piece of his deceased body’s lung. The whole process of designing and knitting this, especially as I was recovering from top surgery - something that was greatly opposed by my family, felt like a reflection on love, grief and its monstrosity.

Origami Design Secrets, let’s gooooooo!! (On loan from my friend.)
I felt like I didn’t understand what bridges the gap between the simple folds I can do and the crazy complex models with lots of shaping. From paging through this, it seems like this book covers all the levels.
