I implore you to greet each day with open arms, and try to keep your chin up and your face toward the sun. Burned bridges may light the way for awhile, but if they all go up in flames you are stranded, stuck, and alone. Your parents will run out of bridges and boys eventually. Although the situation is loathsome and unfortunate, you have survived every wicked moment. Even when your heart felt so heavy, even when you didn't want to carry on, you have endured. That is remarkable, and it should be prided and remembered. You can call me whatever you wish, but I am running out of room to list the types of trees that I find more favorable than others. That's a conversation for another day, and one that I look forward to having.
S l o w l y;Ā slowly.Ā Bitterness consumes, and the purer the heart, the dirtier the deed. Bitterness poises and lurks, hiding in the shadows of the soul that refuseĀ to beĀ acknowledged. It waits to plant seeds, cultivating vines that yearn to choke out hope as it blooms.Ā Its battle tactic is silence - crouching and waiting toĀ strike. The heart fights a constant battle to guard itself, refusing to let bitterness creep inĀ s l o w l y,Ā yet pushing every ounce of gentleness into the world at the same time. No such soul knows of this warfare better than Caleb Perthshire.Ā For someone who reflects and radiates so much warmth into the universe, itās nearly appalling that the same beingĀ can beĀ plagued by such melancholia. If that pointĀ is raised, itās met with a knowing grin and the smallest bob of a blond head. If pressed, the only answer received is that āthere is beauty in emotions, and none in bitterness.āĀ When melancholy strikes, Caleb lets himself dwell for a bit before pulling himself out of it. Some feelings demandĀ to beĀ felt, and he much prefers reveling in them to bottling them up ā the longer itās delayed, the more volatile the explosion will be. Heās displaying such behavior, and in need of a distraction, we find him in an empty classroom with a transfigured piano because of it.Ā

Caleb noted that the piano keys were cold to the touch as he danced her fingers across them. He wasnāt quite sure why he had expected anything but the chill and gave a small shrug in response. He slowly immersed himself and felt a transition to a lonely waltz flowing through his fingertips ā complex and melancholy. Ā HeĀ was taughtĀ many useless talents growing up, but took to the piano like a duckling to water. It was another thing that held his heart and attention, something that he could pour his whole being into. HeĀ had done just that until he heard distant footfalls but kept plunking out precious melodies. CalebĀ was nudgedĀ back towards reality when the footsteps entered the room and eventually lifted his head to take a quick glimpse of the visitor. With pursed lips, he slid down on the piano bench to make room should the guest choose to sit, glancing back at them once more with a quirked brow.
Did you hear about the news? Apparently Iām a free woman. For now, of course, but, itās ā¦ exciting? I almost want to thank his sister in person. Danielās, that is. Ā I know I shouldnāt keep up the hope for long, though, knowing my family.

Enjoy it while it lasts, though if history repeats, know that whatever comes next will be temporary. If it isn't, allow me to borrow some words from a Muggle Poet: "Love is flower like; Friendship is like a sheltering tree."

He wears kindness and gentleness as armor, though those are easily shed should the need for wicked words arise. Protective over anyone, but is utterly convinced he can take care of himself. Plagued with epilepsy, but he doesnāt let it hinder him and aspires to be a mediwizard because of it. Caleb is a broody flower child and reads too much Romantic poetry. 1. What position does your character sleep in? ( i.e; stomach, side, back, etc. ) Describe why they do this ā optional.
Come morning, Calebās bed looks like a war has been fought there. It appears like his tossing and turning involves a routine of somersaults, leaving him to untangle himself from the sheets each morning. Though he starts curled on his side, he somehow ends up sprawled out like a starfish.
2. Does your character have any noteworthy features? Freckles? Dimples? A scar somewhere unusual? etc.
Calebās body is scattered with small scars collected in his childhood, though the majority linger around his knees and elbows. In his youth, days were deemed failures unless he was chased inside for the evening with a new bruise or scrape and a story to explain it.
3. Does your character have an accent? What does it sound like?
The Perthshires hail from Australia (though a move from the UK in the 1850s does not trump centuries of attendance at Hogwarts) and that is obvious the second Caleb opens his mouth. [ voice claim. ]
4. Do they have any verbal tics?Ā Do they have trouble pronouncing certain words or getting their thoughts across clearly?
If Caleb is in the mood for eloquence, he might pause to lace together perfect diction and flowery language. Otherwise, a few ālikeās or āumās might be scattered throughout his dialogue. Nothing overly abnormal.
5. What are their chief tension areas?
The space just below the base of the back of his neck and between the top of his shoulders.Ā
6. If you were to pick one song ā and only one song ā to describe your character, what would it be and why?
You Are the Moon - The Hush Sound
You don't see what you possess, a beauty calm and clear
It floods the sky and blurs the darkness like a chandelier
All the light that you possess is skewed by lakes and seas
The shattered surface, so imperfect, is all that you believe
7. How does your character perceive themselves? Positive? Negative? Neutral?
I think itās very split, honestly. For so many years, Caleb has worked on finding self love and clinging to it. However, lately his faith has been shaken. Feelings of guilt and frustration keep bubbling up. Heās always held his pride, loyalty, and morality in high esteem, but his confidence is evaporating, old loyalties are needed once more, and his morality is slowly slipping out of his hands.Ā
8. Are they a quick thinker or do they need time to sort through their thoughts?
Caleb is rather impulsive. He appreciates logic and taking the time to think things through, but often his heart overrides his mind. However, if something really does need careful consideration Caleb will take the time it deserves. For the most part, he acts first and thinks later, and then takes corrective measures to remedy his inattention if absolutely necessary.Ā
9. Does your character dream or are their nights filled with an empty blackness? Describe a dream theyāve had or a night they couldnāt sleep and what they did to preoccupy their time.
Some nights are peacefully empty, and others are vividly wicked. If he canāt sleep, heāll crack a window and stare out at the stars longingly, or slink down to the common room to take up solace with the other sleepless souls.Ā
10. If they had a choice, would they prefer a subway or a bus for public transportation?
He would go with whatever his more muggle enlightened companion decides, as itās quite doubtful heād voluntarily board either on his own accord.Ā
11. What do they think of creation? Do they believe in evolution or do they believe in God? What is their religion like?
Caleb isnāt sure what to believe. Itās purely logical that thereās a greater being and can understand why others find comfort in the thought of one. Heās decided that maybe something powerful launched the big bang, and nature and evolution took over from there. As for something like the 10 Commandments, heās surmised āThou shalt not be a putrid waste of human skin.ā
12. Describe 5 unusual characteristics your muse has.
Caleb is an incessant doodler and often fills the margins of his notes with them. He will always preen his broomstick after any game or practice, coaxing any wayward bristles back into place. Caleb detests overly cold weather, and a sunny autumn day with a small breeze is his favorite. Even when trying to keep his composure, his eyebrows are particularly expressive.
13. Have they ever been so overwhelmed they had to stop and take a break from something?
Yes. If Caleb feels on edge or feels like something might happen, he has been known to slip away to regain his composure.
14. Are they a team player or do they prefer to be solo?
Although he loves himself immensely, Caleb definitely cares for the people he holds close much, much more.Ā
15. Can they multi-task or must they focus on one subject at a time?
Caleb often tries to multitask, with varying degrees of success.Ā
16. What are their best school subjects? What are their worst?Ā
He excels at Charms and Transfiguration, though his Arithmancy skills need work.Ā
17. Is your character an introvert or an extrovert? How do they handle big crowds of people?
Caleb is warm and genuine, and can handle a crowd easily. Heās not a shrinking violet when thereās an impromptu party in the common room if Hufflepuff wins a Quidditch match. If someone gets him started on something that heās passionate about, it can be hard to get him to shut up. From time to time, he does need some time alone or with a close group to decompress. Sometimes he just needs to be alone, but heĀ alwaysĀ hate feeling lonely.
18. Are they a leader, do they prefer to follow, or would they rather just stay on the sidelines altogether?
Caleb prefers to follow, or watch how things play out and intervene when necessary. If he feels compelled to, he will speak up, but he wonāt fight to be the loudest voice heard unless absolutely necessary.
19. If your character was suddenly challenged, would they rather run away or stay and fight?
It depends on what the challenge is. Caleb can be warm and soft, and unfortunately quite passive. However, he would definitely try to fix the situation first, and if that didnāt work and if he possesses the conviction to do so, he will defend himself. Overall, heās not fond of conflict.
20. If your character was allowed to murder one person without any consequences, who would that person be and why?
Undecided.
21. Your character has been granted 3 wishes; what would they wish for and why?
Stability, peace of mind, and a guarantee that everything will work out in the end.Ā
22. Does your character trust people right off the bat or does it take them some time to warm up to someone?
Caleb tries to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and heās initially friendly and charismatic. It might take some time for him to let his guard down completely, but once he warms up to someone he nearly trusts them blindly until they do something to prove otherwise.
23. Do they prefer romance or affection? What is the quickest way to your characterās heart?
He much prefers affection. It might be shallow, but Caleb simply likes being liked. You can be affectionately friendly, and platonically cuddle, and thereās much more love to go around that way. Heās not opposed to romance, but heās not well versed.
24. Does your character have any enemies? If so, who and why?
Caleb firmly believes thatĀ enemyĀ is such a strong word. He hopes that he doesnāt have any, though he fully realizes that there are some bridgesĀ he didnāt know he crossed until he crossedĀ that should not have been burnt.Ā
25. Do they have any weird bedroom habits? Any unusual kinks?
Caleb is definitely a cuddler and isnāt well versed in the art of seduction.
26. How does your character prepare for bed? Do they sleep at all or can they stay awake for days on end without trouble?
He has no particular ritual. He often stares at the ceiling, waiting for sleep to claim him. If it doesnāt come, heāll cut his losses and find something else to do with his time.Ā
27. If your character had one thing to say to their parents before they died, what would it be?
Heās thankful that his parents took the time and cared enough to drag him to all of the doctors and specialists when he was younger to get his epilepsy under control. Hell, they even braved the muggle world a few times. They never took the disdain of the condition out onĀ him,Ā and for that, heās grateful. They were never perfect, but they werenāt completely awful. He fully understands their urge to shelter and protect him, and though he often fought with his mother about his safety and capabilities, he would still want to thank them and say goodbye one last time.Ā
28. Are they afraid of death? Do they have any regrets?
The thought of living an uneventful, unremembered life terrifies him more than the thought of death itself. Caleb wants to make a mark, somehow. Caleb tries to live his life without regrets, and tries to make peace with the dayās events before he falls asleep each night. Asking what ifs and wondering what could have been never leads to anything productive and isnāt the healthiest. Ā
29. Does your character get restless when things are too quiet or do they favour solitude and silence? Why?
Caleb definitely gets restless. He has always been the type that needs to be constantly stimulated. Otherwise, he spends far too much time in his head overthinking every little detail. Lately, his internal dialogue holds quite scathing criticism. Utter silence only fosters that. However, sometimes he just needs solitude and a big book of broody, Romantic poetry. Keats is a particular favorite.Ā
30. Finally; if your character was forced to eat one thing for the rest of their life, what would they choose and why?
Pizza. There are so many possibilities. If he has a particular craving for something, it can be a topping. From the classics to that one ādessert pizzaā with chocolate sauce that a third year muggleborn whipped up in the kitchen one night. Caleb likes keeping his options open.Ā
