The last thing LGBT people need is comparing zoophilia, something 99% of people find disgusting and akin to rape, to being LGBT.  Homophobes have been using the same “slippery slope” argument for decades.  Do I think it’s unfair that zoophilia is considered disgusting and people think animals can’t consent?  Yes!  But that doesn’t matter.  It’s not about me or my feelings, or zoos’ feelings.  It’s about helping and protecting LGBT people.  Being LGBT isn’t perverted or wrong, and the general public perceiving zoophilia as being both of those things isn’t going to change any time soon.  I don’t think the backlash from the LGBT community when zoos try to insist they’re part of the community for their animal attraction is unfair.  LGBT people have spent decades fighting to be treated like everyone else, and we’re still not there yet.  It’s not “unfair” that LGBT people reject zoophiles saying zoophilia is part of LGBT because “we face the same struggles!!”  I don’t blame them one bit.  We’ve only recently overcome the “all gays are pedophiles” perception here in America.  Trying to shoehorn zoophilia into the LGBT community isn’t going to help their cause, and it’s sure as hell not going to help ours.

Let’s be honest, zoophiles aren’t going to get “rights” or freedom of expression anytime soon.  Probably not within our lifetimes.  I think it’s easy to get wrapped up in the community “bubble” and think we will, but it’s not realistic.

I know aces and aro folks who have been beaten, sexually assaulted, bullied, berated, manipulated, pathologized, taken off important medications, nearly driven to suicide by people who had a problem with their orientation. 

I know exclusionists who have told rape survivors they were lying or mistaken, sent pornography to ace adults and minors, misgendered us and our partners, called us retards, freaks, attention seekers, liars, and more, and tried to invade our safe spaces, and that’s just what I’ve seen in the past two months. 

PFLAG, The Trevor Project, GLADD, and the fucking United Nations recognize us.
