     Instinct screamed to push as much distance between himself and the Prime; he recalled with excruciating detail the feeling of metal rending, of the limb that was then used against him until he could later collect and reattach it. Now was not the time, not yet. Should things prove too risky, a hasty retreat was not out of the question; he knew with certainty that even at this close distance, he could still out-fly Optimus any day.

he doesn’t really want to deal with starscream at the moment, or any moment for that matter. yet he also knows better than to simply ignore the jet; it never ends well for anyone, especially soundwave.

     The ping itself is what catches Starscream off-guard -- who it’s from holds little surprise. Mayhap how long it had taken Soundwave to find him, yes, but Soundwave’s presence was always a cross between warily welcome and a suspicious annoyance.
