Something About Us
Paring: Danseur!Jaehyun x Ballerina!reader ft. Best friend Mark and Heachan
A/N: Just a little blurb that I couldn’t get out of my mind. I don’t know the first thing when it comes to ballet so judge lightly 🙏. Hope y’all like it :)!
Winter’s gloom had draped itself over the city like tulle intertwines itself with a dancer. The city seemed to thrive in this state: street food vendors called out to the first person within arms reach, disheveled, uniform clad children sprinted past you in quick cheerful intervals yelling their fair shares of “excuse me miss!” and a few brief apologies as they bumped into you while hastily making their way to what you could only have assumed was a graduation ceremony, young and old folks alike waited patiently in masses at the crosswalks.
You clutched your duffle bag by its strap as you slowed down until your steps halted as the edge of the crosswalk. You huffed a breath in impatience as you drew your coat sleeve back and checked your watch, noting the time 7:03.
“This is the 10th time you’ve checked your watch in the past minute. Unless you want to strain your neck I’d suggest you stop checking.” Mark amused. “Mark you do realized how late we’re going to be if we don’t haul ass. Class is still a block away and every crosswalk sign in this goddamn city is actively trying to make us late” you quipped, shifting your weight to your toes as you peeked over the shoulders of strangers. As if looking at the street would make time move any faster. You took Mark’s arm in yours as soon as the light changed- sprinting to the other side of the sidewalk. “Mark as much as I’d love to take in the sights I’d reallyyy love if we could start picking up the pace” You urged. Mark shook his head with a smile and followed suit- briskly jogging behind you while still managing to tease you like he always did.
What started as a jog and ended as a full on sprint as you yelled out the minutes you had until being declared tardy. By the time the two of you got to the studio you had become a flushed mess. “We have 5 minutes to spare” you boasted patting Mark on the back as you both took your seats.
“You guys are just in time” Heachan said with a light smile before pulling you and Mark in a hug and sitting down beside you. “I was starting to worry I’d have to bear the weight of being the best looking dancer in the class and then you two showed up”. Heachan has no shame. You and Mark quickly started taking off your never-ending layers of coats and tops not wasting a single moment as you got yourself ready for class.
Mrs. Kang took her place in the middle of the room before clearing her matured voice and addressing the class. “Good morning everyone I hope you got plenty of rest over the weekend we have a lot of work to do so let’s get started” she stated with a gentle smile.
“Ladies and gentlemen please take your positions for the first movement of Romeo and Juliet. The entire class shuffled into their positions, wearing polished smiles. Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights roared through the studio. Almost as soon as the music started it was abruptly interrupted by a few hurried knocks at the door. You craned your neck in the direction of the noise- noting as Mrs. Kang’s smile slightly faltered.
“Bro was just better off not showing up today” Heachan whispered beside you. “Man shut up before she catches you talking” Mark said in hopes to get the three of you out of trouble. “Mark relax, she’s not gonna hear us from here unless she has some from of super-hearing abilities that I’m not aware of”. At your remark Mark rolled his eyes and steadily started going down a super ability rabbit hole. “Y’know having spidy-senses would really help out with my dancing” at that you and Heachan cocked your heads back at him. “Mark, respectfully what on-“
“Class may I please have your attention I’m pleased to inform you all that we have a new student that will be joining us!” Mrs. Kang listed off his plethora of accomplishments and mentioned his attendance at elite dancing academies, but you found yourself losing interest in the drawn out introduction.
Your attention was instead fixed on the intense game of Rock, Paper, Scissors Heachan and Mark and found themselves in. “How do you keep on winning~” Heachan whined. Before Mark could even think of a reply Mrs. Kang shot him a glare.
“I suppose you need no further introduction Jaehyun, please sit and find a partner”. Jaehyun fully appeared from the door frame.
He had the face of someone you’d pass in an airport and, by chance, share the same flight with. Beauty unmatched and so close, but tragically unattainable.
All eyes were on him.
In a few long strides found himself sitting only a few feet from your group. Curiously enough he didn’t give into the fawning, he seemed almost uncomfortable at the fact.
“Students please take your positions”
In an organized frenzy dancers took their positions with their partners and held the polished stance.
His eyes softly found yours- asking for your permission. You move towards him and upon your invitation his hand engulfs the small of your back.
The music is quick to resume and you find yourself enjoying his gentle lead. His press is firm and confident on your side, but it has a quiet tenderness that whispers dominance.
Practice is quick to end and you give him your name.
He repeats your name with a a tilt in his lips.
He makes it sound so devine
“I’ll see you tomorrow Jaehyun”.
“Goodbye Y/N.” He whispered loud enough for your ears alone. His fingers slowly moved over his laces, deliberate yet distracted. His eyes lifted up towards you, taking you in with each step you took towards the door.
With a longing stare he switches between trying to focus on unlacing his flats and watching you walk out the door. With a click of the door you were gone and he couldn’t help, but feel a certain emptiness fill the studio. The faint curve of his lips grew as he repeated your name to himself. He wasn’t ready to share this… whatever it was. Some things were better kept in the dark, where they could smolder untouched.
God, there’s something about her
