The absolute joy of a visit to a local library — not back to normal by any stretch (the desks taped over, the shelves set further apart, the one way system signs on the faded carpet) but still I found myself giddy with the thought of wandering through the books and seeing them: well-leafed, well-loved, the books people have clearly enjoyed reading over and over and over. There is so much joy in seeing a clearly thrice expanded crime fiction section, or a worn murakami series with the second title missing, or a new section stuffed with caribbean literature. Wondering around with a pile of books in my arms, the librarian passing me and saying ‘ooh lovely selection!’ and just feeling completely at home
