"I wouldn't be doing this if wasn't for the money..."

The studio lit up, the cameras started rolling, and a very pale bespectacled man with a trimmed beard sat behind the news counter. Fixing up a pile of papers before him, the man leaned forward, looking directly into the one situated in the center.

"Ahem. Good evening, Citizens of Hive City, and this is The Core News Station, situated in Sector 001. I am your host, Suzuki."

"Today's top story: Sector 003 is hit with yet another natural disaster, in the form of a Sharknado. What is a Sharknado, you ask? Why it's an utterly insipid movie that people think is much funnier than it actually is, but that's not the point. See, when a storm, specifically a tornado forms over a large mass of water - in this case the aquatic district, Regia - there is a chance that it might suck in some of the aquatic life as well, in this case, Sharks. Some people are insisting that this is the work of some witch, but we like to put basis in fact here in this News Station, not fairy tales. Sector 003 is due to be flooded by the storm, but the sharks have been appropriately dealt with by the residents in their own...special ways."

"After a short survey, Sector 003 has been designated as Hive City's 'Worst Place to Live'."

"In other news, the Loser Squad strikes in Sector 004, releasing wolves out into a restaurant of innocent people. After making quite the mess of the place, they were released out onto the streets. If you live in Sector 004, it would be wise of you to stay indoors, or if you must leave, be prepared."

"To close today's news on a lighter note, here's a reminder that the upcoming Valentine's Day festivities are still scheduled to occur. If you have friends who need someone to spend time with, or someone you just don't particularly like whom you can hope to see miserable, be sure to sign them up for the Auction."

In a new place, you find something you can familiarize yourself with. Throwing yourself into something you don't understand is a hassle, and should be avoided if possible, lest you face unpleasant culture shock. I'll start small for now, and see where it takes me. Perhaps something will occur, perhaps not. I can hope for the latter.

So there he was, a gloomy looking individual seated in a donut shop, a bear claw and a coffee set upon the table,  a newspaper opened before him. He was actually rather surprised that the city kept itself to such high standards, all things considered. Even reading the newspaper lead him to believe that events in this world were very far from the norm of others, yet it was treated as regular, mundane. It was almost sad...

Naturally, he wasn't alone in this establishment, various other people entering and leaving with their food and drink, a few following his example and taking the time to relax. It was such a plain sight to behold, contradicting so thoroughly with the city in which it took place in. It was almost funny. Almost. But now, it seemed he had gained someone's attention, to which he elected to ignore them for a moment or so. Finally, he shifted his gaze to face the pest, his voice perfectly calm, almost to the point of monotone.

Busy streets, busy people, an overall average atmosphere, lacking in excitement, yet not devoid of purpose. It was a very plain day. Nothing out of the ordinary - for the city of course - having occurred, and new residents being distributed to their homes. So plain, so average, so very easy for the man to blend into the crowd as he walked. He was just a plain man, if not a little unhealthy by the looks of him, and even upon further inspection, he would remain just that: a normal citizen. A perfect lie for Deishuu Kaiki. Not because it was entirely wrong, but because it wasn't entirely right.

This will do.

A conclusion already made.

It's an idiotic notion. A world split from all others, taking people of interest from each of their picking and then throwing them in together in some melting pot to see the results. It's a Sci-Fi Fantasy gone wrong, or perhaps some Otaku's wet dream of seeing favorite characters clash in some futuristic arena. Were it not so painfully cliche, I would almost assume I'm dreaming. Then I would be insulted that I could assume I would dream of something this stupid.

A light sigh, as he hung his head. No one particularly cared.

But now, I'm here, no matter what I think of it. Is it an Oddity though? I'm sure if Oshino or Kagenui came they would think so. But it's not. Not really. It's just a new normal, the equivalent of moving to a new country, albeit by very strange means. It will be odd for a time, but eventually, it'll become routine. It's just a matter of adaptation, and only weak-minded fools would let it get the better of them.

A turn to step out of the flow of people, allowing him to observe the city in motion.

Perhaps this is just what I needed. A new start away from the mess at home. This world will have many strange people, yes, but it's safe to say that there will be just as many who are terrible of keeping track of their money. No matter where I go, that's assured. Why should those who do not deserve money keep it? Not when I can make better use of it.There's no reason to stop that line of work. In fact, there's more reason to continue than ever before.
