oh fuck wangxian is in the ancestral hall i repeat the chickens have landed

jiang cheng's life is so hard he's just going around having pretty understandable reactions to wei wuxian trampling all over his emotions and people keep telling him to "mind his words" about it. i think he should get a gold star for using his words at all when he has several pointy and/or electrified weapons on his person that he could be using instead.

jiang cheng says "it was because you played the hero for this lan-er'gongzi that all of lotus pier and my parents went down" but it obviously was not because of that and jiang cheng knows it. what he's saying is, you chose him. you chose the dafan wen. you didn't choose me. and now you have the gall to bring one of these people to the resting place of my family? the place that belongs to me, the place you left, the people you left? you can choose other people, but don't fucking rub my face in it! he's not mad that wei wuxian went to the ancestral hall; he's been wanting him to do that. he's mad that he brought lan wangji. jiang cheng wants him to go to the ancestral hall because he cares about yes, jiang fengmian and yu ziyuan and jiang yanli, but also because he cares about jiang cheng. and instead wei wuxian goes there behind his back and brings the guy who he ran away from jiang cheng with on the mountain and when jiang cheng comes in to confront him he answers him tonelessly without looking at him and only makes eye contact when jiang cheng insults lan wangji. i think jiang cheng should get a fucking break. but instead he gets the golden core reveal.

jiang cheng accuses wei wuxian of things that are demonstrably untrue and unfair and i think sometimes people get hung up on those things and don't listen to the rest of what he's saying, which is pretty valid?? like it is actually incredibly rude to take an outsider into the jiang clan ancestral hall without permission. it is actually incredibly rude to bring your buddy who killed your nephew's dad to the place where your nephew feels safe. these things are true even if you disregard the fact that even the untrue and unfair things are his way of communicating things that are true but hard for him to say directly, like "you are acting like you don't care about me and that is hurting me deeply." he's communicating that by pretending that wei wuxian caused other things (the fall of lotus pier) which hurt him deeply and which he is allowed to own as having hurt him deeply. this is a shorthand that wei wuxian understood before, but he's no longer interpreting it through the correct lens and jiang cheng is either unaware of that or has not been able to adjust his communication style accordingly and who can blame him, it's not like wei wuxian has made any effort whatsoever to communicate with him! he just keeps shutting down and running away! i'm not sure how jiang cheng is supposed to learn how to act with him when he isn't actually given the opportunity to spend time with him.

insulting lan wangji is obviously unfair but it's the only thing that wei wuxian will react to. the only way to get wei wuxian looking at him and engaging with him, even if by yelling (which, remember, is their love language!), is to smacktalk lan wangji, so that is what he does. yeah it's immature but this whole thing is a clusterfuck! i think it is very understandable given the circumstances!

and it's working too, wei wuxian is now grabbing him by front of his robes and getting in his face! jiang cheng is getting a good grade in making shixiong pay attention to him, something that is actually extremely normal to want and should not be so fucking hard to achieve, for fuck's sake???

i love when he chases after them and grabs wei wuxian by the front of HIS robes. he is using the vocabulary you have just established!! why do you keep changing the passcodes for how to get through to you!!!
