Just a thought but imagine being one of Bruce's adopted children that was also a vigilante. This is in mind of @rizzanon's series, Undoing Fate.
Imagine where you finally quit being a vigilante and started to explore the world and experience freedom like never before. Slowly but surely, you started to reach out and reconnect with your friends, hobbies you didn't know that you loved or start having a backbone for yourself.
Imagine that you've started to realize your mistakes to the batfam, and wanting to apologize, you started to self reflect on the past. Over the course of time, you realized your wrongdoings and wanted to talk them out. Realizing that the reason why most of relationships in the batfam was at a all time low was because of you.
Imagine that you didn't know what was the best timing to do it. You didn't want it to be out of the blue! That'll just make things too awkward... and we both know what happened the last time things got awkward (*cough Barbs and Dick ambushing you in that one cafe *cough)..
Imagine that your last conversation with Jason had just been a load of bullshit. The two of you just argued, with him insulting you and the cowl you once wore. You didn't mind the fact that he was insulting you, you knew you were a failure as batgirl! That wasn't an opinion, it was facts, you knew that! What broke your heart was why did he say it like all you did as batgirl was all failures and not much of tiny success of actually helping people?
Imagine that after you passed out as your body was pouring out blood out of your nose like a sink, Tim was ignoring you. Like you, Stephanie, Damian and him didn't have a fun time at the mall just a few moments before? He made you feel like you were such a nuisance that you even had the gall to pass out in front of him when you didn't have a choice! Not like you wanted or even knew that your bodily functions was gonna go haywire after waving the flirty kryptonian off!
Imagine that you got roped into some type of community service gig where you had to help backstage for a charity gala, in which none of the batfam was. At least you didn't go upstage where all the guests were.
Imagine that the host for the charity gala didn't arrive, may it be that he had some problems or he really didn't want to go, but main point being, there was no host for the night. The lead organizer was scrambling to find a last minute replacement until their eyes landed on... you.
Imagine that you weren't supposed to be seen anywhere near the front stage but here you are, bright lights and a surprising amount of camera flashes all aimed at you. The media of course didn't waste time to take pictures of you. In their defense, you were a Wayne that was hardly ever seen in a good public light before. Especially now that the lead organizer had your make up, dress and hair done in such a style that suits you.
Imagine that everything was going smoothly. You were able to hold a poker face and stopped your hands from shaking so much. You were able to muster a smile that concealed your sweaty back and racing heart.
Imagine that just as you ending the gala came to a close, shots was suddenly being fired at the venue. You dashed as fast as you could towards backstage, not wanting to be the landing of any of the bullets being shot.
Imagine that you only wanted to get out but couldn't when you saw a child getting pointed at gun point. Without even so much as a thought, you pushed them off, but got hit two times on the side in the process.
Imagine that the batfam was collectively busy, especially tonight. Bombs were being detonated, crime alleys getting a surge of, well, crimes, arkham asylum patients busting their way out, it was just a big, giant mess.
Imagine that Tim was nearby the venue where you were, fighting someone completely irrelevant. Ultimately, and rarely, getting caught off guard and was shot with a fluid that made his heart stop.
Imagine that you were able to subdue the perpetrator even with two holes bleeding excessively onto the dress one of the stylists were able to find that fitted you. Although he was able to hit your head on the wall, you were still able to knock him out. Albeit with a slight concussion.
Imagine that the child ran off as you were fighting with one of the shooters, and ran outside to find him.
Imagine that the shooter was still not yet down as he was able to shoot you in your thighs. The pain shot through you and made walking each step harder and slower. It seems like luck was on your side as the shooter was passed out. But you were loosing more blood as the minutes went by.
Imagine that even when your vision was practically starting to spin and blur, you can't forget the person lying unconsciously on the floor. Making your way to him even when your thighs was shooting high intense pain to your every step, it didn't deter you. No, it only made your way to him faster.
Imagine that your first instinct was to check for his pulse. He was unresponsive, and he wouldn't just be passed out in some random building when the crime rate was getting higher and higher by the minute.
Imagine that you started doing CPR on him, taking out your hands that was someway keeping your blood from flowing outside of your body. You... started to not care anymore.
"Tim! Wake up!" You didn't know when but tears started pouring out and onto his uniform. A pool of crimson was forming below you as your head has started to go faint.
But it didn't deter you from trying to save his life. Every minute or so, you started to place your head onto his chest to hear his heart beat. Every time that you heard silence, you would start over again. Sometimes you thought that his heart started pumping again only to realize that you were hearing your own heart and not his.
Your breath has started to go hoarse, you started to hyperventilate as tears flowed out, "Buddha, God, Allah— anyone there!" You called out.
"Please, please, don't make me lose my brother again! I...!" Memories of when you first knew that Jason was dead resurfaced. Even as the world has gone hazy, memories of the past started haunting you.
You started to breathe from your mouth, your nose too clogged to function anymore. "I promise! I-I promise I'll be better, so please!" You didn't even know what being better meant.
You heard a distant crack, and your pushes started to become weaker. Your vision blurry from the tears as everything had gone cold.
Stopping the heart pushes, you pressed your ear against his chest.
The sound made your eyes widened in relief. You double checked that it wasn't your own heart again before starting to relax. The rhythm slowly coaxing you into closing your eyes.
Barbara immediately alerted everyone the moment Tim's pulse became faint to flat lining. As she was about to call out to the others about red robin's situation, he suddenly got a beat.
She knew it was far too unusual to be Tim's own heartbeat and drew to a conclusion, someone must be giving him CPR. She could faintly hear someone crying over Tim's comms.
The blonde froze. That voice...
"[Name]?" She murmured softly.
"Uh Barbs? Need help over here," Dick's voice echoed through the batcave.
Barbara didn't mean to, but she tuned out everyone's voices.
"Buddha, God, Allah— anyone there!" Your voice was seeping off of desperation, and she could feel every single one.
"Please, please, don't make me lose my brother again! I...!"
Barbara's eyes widened, eyebrows furrowed. She knew who you were talking about. She knew that the two of you had a complicated history with each other. But this side of you... this was completely new to her.
"I promise! I-I promise I'll be better, so please!"
A defeaning crack can be heard a moment later. As someone who had a lot and have seen and heard how it was like when a bone cracks, this was one of them.
"Did she break her arm trying to do chest compressions..?" She was completely shocked, not long after she could see Tim's heartbeat coming alive.
That was when she called someone that could help, Commissioner Gordon.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Wayne but..." The Doctor trailed off.
Behind the door was you, in an ice bath. You whole bottom half of your body was submerged in ice cold water. You had a cast on one of your arms while an iv connected to a blood bag was connected to another.
His green eyes soon found itself again towards the Doctor in Front of him.
"The reason why why have Miss [Name] in an ice bath is to potentially give us time to get donors—"
He heard enough. The diagnosis for you was simple.
You had a concussion, broken arm and because of the fact that your body couldn't handle the huge amounts of blood loss, it started to react quickly.
And it ended with you having multiple organ failures. Most of your bottom half organs have started not to function.
Bruce shook his head clear as he briskly walked past every medical staff member in his way, to make it to you.
He crouched down looking at your half lidded eyes and pale skin. He couldn't even muster a word. He just couldn't stop staring at you.
It was truly one of the moments he started thinking back to your earliest years, while still innocent and looking at him with big eyes, curious about him.
He shuts his eyes as he mutters a prayer— for you, and only you.
