I love that the artist is using a traditional pose for an angel--powerful, armed, advancing--but the angel isn't attacking or smiting or forcing a message from God onto someone; instead they're saving their enemy and keeping them safe, alone on a tiny foothold surrounded by danger and death and chaos. I love the way the fanart aspect of this piece uses this traditional Christian imagery but shifts that imagery's meaning to one that's critical of Christianity's vision of goodness and presents an alternative to that vision.
