gets pulled into her fucked up msbp thing when she starts spiraling

develops an infantilized, innocent “baby” persona as a result of this, entirely dependent on toriel and has to keep it up during her unpredictable mood swings to keep themself safe

human falls down, and toriel replaces them with the new kid (not only are they an actual child, but theyre also human so they remind her of chara……)

lamb (dont have a name for them yet LOL) leaves the ruins & meets w papyrus and sans, still safe in their baby persona

they hit it off w papyrus immediately since they have similar defense mechanisms (self infantilization + detachment from the killing of humans by being like Oh theyre basically just toys 2 play with LOL)

living with toriel has taught them that physical affection is transactional, something you have to do to remain useful and to show gratitude So theyre very forcibly cuddly and overly affectionate. papyrus digs this bc it fulfills sum sorta hero complex thing. sans fucking haaaaates it tho Hes wary asf of them and doesnt wanna be touched so he either teleports away when they try or shove them off Mean style

sans’ refusal to accept the lambs physical affection creates some sort of feedback loop where the lamb feels rejected and abandoned and thus tries even harder to be close

idk exactly how this progresses But occasionally they slip out of the baby persona and show more of their fear and codependency Which is when sans realizes they arent someone w a hidden malicious agenda

oh also i should mention papyrus figures out the baby thing is a mask pretty early on Since he does the same thing

when sans starts to trust them more he shows his affection through teasing pokes, pinches, and bites. this gives him plausible deniability to showing any sort of affection

papyrus notices their budding romance way before either of them do…… and hes awesome Even in horrortale so he gives them space by pretending to be oblivious

basically the story of the brothers and the lamb revolves around all three of them learning to discard the masks when theyre alone. the lambs story focuses on how they stop trying to be sweet and compliant at all costs & instead gain independence and learn how to be an adult. ummm can u tell im feeling disoriented from going from living w my mama who did everything for me into living alone and having to do stuff myself. lol

when theyre together later they both relish in little, grounding touches. the lamb traces their claws against his palm, sans rests his teeth against their neck. its all abt that intimate Using the their natural weapons for gentleness thang lol

toriel in this story is a bit of a mixed bag. i tried to keep her canonical elements of mbps and abandonment fears while also adding traits from my own parents. the lamb lived with her for a long time, and unlike an actual child, they never put up a fight, never made a fuss, and played the part perfectly, because they arent a child and realize that behaving in a way she doesnt want is dangerous. basically they have an unrealistic baby act going on because while a child has their own opinions on things, as an adult they understand thats not safe. basically theyre a toy for her to fulfill her need for companionship and someone to care for, while keeping themself safe and fed

its a bit unclear how the famine is in the ruins, but i have to imagine its at least known that the rest of the underground is starving. toriel uses this to her advantage, telling horror stories of the world beyond the door, to keep the lamb with her

idk when exactly the bloodstains come into being on their clothes and wool, either it happens after they leave the ruins and have to kill to survive, or the ruins is also affected by the starvation and kill the humans that fall down to make toriel happy

toriel is unpredictable and fragile. the lamb fears the sound of footsteps approaching, because in the ruins that sound had a 50/50 chance of meaning toriel was about to lash out for no reason, screaming and breaking things before falling into a sobbing heap on the floor, whereupon the lamb has to comfort her

the first crack in the baby facade that sans gets to witness is when the lamb finds a broken old doll in the brothers house. not only do they see them self in it, but it also shatters the view theyve had up until that point that the brothers are the perfect protectors/saviors/caretakers, and that nothing could ever go wrong. this freaks them the fuuuuck out. “am i going to end up like this?” type thing
