There’s a lie spoken by a lot of people that no one would do anything if you handed them money but myself and hundreds of thousands of people produce free content constantly, all the time, just because we can.

There’s nothing to be gained other than making myself and others happy with the content I provide. And you know what? Handing me a living wage wouldn’t stop me from producing these things. It would actually make it easier for me to produce them because I wouldn’t have to worry about money.

So call me a socialist and you’re right, but I’m fucking right. Artists, writers, and content creators, our work should be valued.

It depends actually.

The reality of the world says you need money to survive. Without money… there are so many closed options. It could be true that ppl shouldn’t do things for money per se, but still. Some people need to feed themselves and don’t have any more money or time or energy to chase their passions. Oh, and the world is getting more and more commercialised. I think. 

Speaking of art as a source of money-making… this is a very relevant issue to this fandom analyser. Nearly every show now isn’t just for the sake of art, it’s also to earn something. Awards. Money. Or recognition. I don’t know how art is defined anymore considering art has been influenced by commerce. I refuse to use the word “warped” here as I think the definition of art keeps evolving and it’s very unclear now.

Basically, the definition of bullshit jobs are jobs that are pointless but the people can’t admit that they’re pointless becos of reasons

So the idea of sitting in a chair, all days doing nothing, and getting paid seems like the ideal situation right? Like becos literally all u have to do is sit. and look pretty. and look busy. all day. no need to do actual work? (e.g. of a job)

well actually, what TENDS to happen is instead people engaged in bullshit jobs are severely psychologically and even physically hurt. Becos the human mind is wired with the need to make an impact on the world and with the need to have the things we do be meaningful. So, this kind of pointless work? where the person doing it knows it’s pointless? hella demoralising and depressing. with actual health effects like ppl tend to fall sick more and tend to develop mental illnesses the longer they spend. 

but why do they stay in those jobs then? becos they need the money. becos we live in a society with capitalism which says you MUST work. (there’s actually a way in which we cld reduce this but go look in the tags or ask me). But the problem is that the need to have a job is superseding the problem of whether the job is actually necessary.
