Carmen desperately needed coffee. After coming back from a week of hell after visiting family in LA, she was presented with a new type of hell. The graffiti was racking everyone’s brain and as the Scorpion’s lawyer, she wanted to have answers for them. Another day went by and her day started off bright and early as she slipped on her blazer and slacks, choosing to walk towards The Daily Dose. Strolling to the sounds of the ocean surrounding her, she opened the door hearing a presence behind her and held it open a little longer as she turned around to find the familiar face. “Julia,” she said with a warm grin. “Early bird gets the worm, huh?”

The past couple of weeks had been busy for Carmen. She had been preparing for the opening of La Santa, which included so many learning lessons. While she wasn’t professionally trained, she decided to try to cook side by side with her head chef as they finalized the menu. Her confidence ended up biting her in the ass as she tried to julienne some jalapeños. Her manicured fingers were covered in blood, rushing down her arm and that was the end of Carmen’s chef stunt. As the hostess rushed her over to the medical center, she held her arm against her chest as it dripped all over her clothes. While she was in pain, the adrenaline was pushing her to find someone to help her. She ran inside looking around at all the busy employees, and then she met his familiar eyes. Carmen’s chocolate brown eyes widened like a puppy as she pouted her lip. “I cut my finger…” she explained.

The anticipation of seeing Carmen’s restaurant had been building for the past few days, even weeks, since Giada had found out that it had been a gift from Gus. Cooking was a huge part of all of their lives and it only made sense that he would end up with someone who also had a natural ability for it. When the invite had come through to try the menu before opening, Giada had practically jumped at it, her curiosity taking over. Her guys opened the door for her and she quickly greeted Carmen with the customary kiss on each cheek before smiling widely. “I am prepared for it all, I told Gerard last night I couldn’t even have an extra glass of wine with dinner just in case.”

Carmen was amused listening to her, a little huff escaping her nose as she guided Giada towards the VIP booth located in the corner of La Santa. It was custom made to hold up to fifteen people, something she kept in mind for their large blended family. She wanted to be able to share moments close together as they did. “Welcome to La Santa, bella,” she said, ushering her into the velvet blue booth. “I thought we’d live large like queens for lunch,” she said as they sat. A group of three waiters approached them with menus, water and table-side champagne. “Would you like a drink? I think you’d love this one,” she pointed on her menu towards the designated drink she named after her loved ones; The Scordato Sunset. “It’s grapefruit and tequila and some secrets we can’t share from the bar,” she explained to her with a wink. ‘Let’s start off with some guacamole, please,’ she requested the waiter. “How’s everything? How’s Gerard?” Carmen inquired as they began making table side guacamole for the pair.

their past was exactly that , his past . he had no reason to dwell on it but whatever secrecy thing he had with carmen needed to stay that way , a secret . dark hues focus on her features as she speaks , hands remain inside armani suit ❝ just been busy .  ❞ he finally says as he lets his hand drop in front of the bridge , looking out into the ocean ❝  between the black rabbit and usual business , i tend to keep myself busy . ❞ he knows he shouldn’t but the words leave his lips before he can stop them ❝  i think a congratulations is in order —– on the marriage . guess you got what you wanted after all . ❞

Truthfully, she wanted to run in the other direction. This was one of the subjects Carmen could never talk about, the truth of them. She never meant to hurt anybody or leave them wondering but she didn’t have a choice. He was a volatile Viper and she would never be able to convince herself it was good. Living in secrets and shame wasn’t for her. His words wrapped around her as she looked out towards the sea. “Being busy is the way to be,” she said. She was always finding ways to stop herself from overthinking. Working was her best distraction from her thoughts. As he mentioned her marriage, she looked down at the sparkling diamonds on her left ring finger, twisting it out of habit. “Thank you,” she responded, her eyes gazing into his eyes. “You have a really funny way of saying congratulations, Milo,” she insinuated his hostility. 

Nicoletta didn’t even have to turn around to recognize the voice that reprimanded her, a familiar one from years of forced friendly gatherings. Of course, the world of alcohol was huge, but it seemed it wasn’t quite large enough to keep tequila and vino from mixing, a lethal combination that at times made for a rather tangy sangria.

Her suspicions were undoubtedly confirmed as she caught a glimpse of the brunette through the reflection of the boutique window. Of all the people in all of Oceanside it just had to be Carmen who spotted her with a mop and bucket in hand. And so, Nico waste no more time stalling and whirled around on her heeled boots striking the pavement with calculated dramatic flair. 

“Shame,” Nicoletta arched a manicured brow before scanning her up and down. “Because if it were up to me, I’d charge double for that outfit alone.”

Her face grew with amusement as she heard the female before her. They both came from the interesting world of alcohol which only led to so many friends. The world of alcohol meant forced smiles and proper behavior but behind closed doors, it was all a competition. They had developed a relationship that meant pushing each other's buttons and seeing how far they could take it. 

It would always be a nice game of tug of war between them. A cheeky grin appeared on her face as she looked at the sight. She was beautiful, she was graceful, and she was certainly internally dying being in front of her with a mop and a bucket. She ran a hand down her figure as she commented on her outfit, a devilish smile as she smoothed out the athleisure wear. “I don’t blame you. It’s Italian luxury sportswear, honey,” she chimed back. No way in hell would she ever let someone make her feel bad.

Stepping closer to the tag to observe, she looked over at her and tilted her head. “Besides staying out of the hair salon, what have you been up to?” She inquired.

the roll of his sleeves as he feels the nice oceanside breeze , around this time he always found it calming or therapeutic to take a nice walk . the top buttons of the armani collar are being loosened , chocolate hues scan all around but then they fixate on the face that he’s avoided for almost a year . he’s seen her a couple of times , ignored her because no good will come of having a conversation with her . he can’t look away and pretend that he hasn’t seen her because they have both conscience of each other presence . how does he greet her —- a hug ? no . that’s too personal . a handshake ? feels too formal . so he settles for a nod of his head and one word ; her name . ❝  carmen . ❞ the word almost burns his brims , as if it would kill him .

She knew eventually she would run into him. A small break by the pier seemed nice in between her day but it had turned eerie. While she didn’t hold any hostility towards him, she felt indifferent. She didn’t let herself think about their past because she didn’t need to. She couldn’t. She was a Mafia president’s wife now... the same Mafia that hated his own affiliation. She was happy but his voice drew her away from the waves crashing. Turning around to face him, a lump formed in her throat. “Emiliano,” she said back. A dead expression in her eyes as she tried to remain as neutral as possible. “Haven’t seen you in a while.”

Despite being exhausted, even having Carmen back home seemed to help Guasparre recharge. He couldn’t picture his life without her anymore, not when she had been there to pull him out of the darkness; not when she brought out the best in him. At that point, he had lost hope that any kind of good in him could ever be found, and yet she had proven him wrong.

At her tease, Gus looked over at her, raising a brow cheekily. “That thing huh? See, I don’t know. It’s been so long, I don’t even think I remember what I like.” He played along, only to end up smiling. How had he ever gotten so lucky with her? “Maybe I do, but I wouldn’t say no to hearing that over and over again.”

He continued to smile as she pulled him closer, his free hand moving to rest gently on her hip. “Saluti, il mio amore.” He responded, taking a sip of his glass. His fingers trailed up and down her hip, both out of comfort and mere longing of having her close. A week, sometimes, was just too long. “I’ve missed you, darling.” He added a few moments later, leaning in and kissing her once more.

Gus wasn’t known for his affection and sweet whisperings. For the most part, she got to see how he operated as a Mafia president before he was her husband. She got lucky, though, when he recruited her. He had always been charming and sweet with her but his love was on another level. She no longer felt scared or dreaded going to bed next to someone. He had her wrapped around his finger and she didn’t mind his grip.

“Really?” She said, her eyes turning into little slits as he spoke. “It’s been one week,” she said, emphasis on the word one. While they might’ve had a 20-year age gap, you wouldn’t believe that through their late night rendezvous. A cheeky smile on her face as she shook her head, “I love you so much, Guasparre Scordato,” she said, her lips brushing against his. “Always and forever,” Carmen added, grazing his cheek with her thumb as she looked into his hazel hues. The stories behind his eyes were something she wondered about, only wanting the best for her husband. 

Carmen placed her glass down, sliding her arms around his neck as she deepened their kiss. “I missed you more,” she mumbled in between their kisses. “We need to get away,” she said, taking a breath. There was never time for a vacation but she would always bring it up. It was the natural born traveler in her. “Just a weekend away,” she tried convincing him, continuing to peck him as she trailed down his neck with her lips. “We’ve been married for almost half a year,” a genuine excited tone spilling out of her.
