"look at how edgeworth is still similar to von karma" "oh my god look he's just like gregory" I AM BITING THROUGH THE BARS OF MY ENCLOSURE I AM GOING INSANE!!! EDGEWORTH IS LIKE HIMSELF THAT IS WHAT HE IS HE IS HIS OWN PERSON WHO FORGED HIS IDENTITY AND PATH ALONEEE!!! sure he has the cravat and mannerisms and professionalism from von karma and he has the nook and cranny phrase and morals and glasses from gregory but HE RECLAIMS THOSE AS HIS OWN!!! he takes what the past has given him and accepts it by transforming it into something new!! he is not a defense attorney he is not a perfect corrupt prosecutor he is an international prosecutor who had to first blindly follow what he had been taught, then run from it and himself and later slowly, piece by piece compose his identity from what he had and what he seeked out on purpose this time!! miles edgeworth saw the options before him: die, disappear completely or be corrupt and after trying both he chose to resurrect himself and be something no one told him to be OKAY. LISTEN TO ME. THE POINT IS TAKING WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR HANDS (prosecutor's job) AND BEING WHAT YOU WANT TO BE (the defense attorney-typical goodness and justice and truth seeking) BY USING IT. LISTEN
the crime scene photo for gregorys death is just so chilling to me because its such a stark contrast to everything else we get in aa1. we witness cindy and mia’s deaths in full color, almost like we’re watching a movie. jack hammer’s death doesn’t quite look real; the expression on his face is quite unnerving, but the impact of it goes away when you notice his costume and how the unrealistic piercing wound in his chest just makes him look hollow inside. it’s leaning more towards what you visualize when you think of a murder scene, but falls short because of the stylization applied.
and i think this was deliberate because when you get to turnabout goodbyes and you see this photo. man. it hits. the way gregory’s eyes are hidden from view. the way he’s slumped over. the way we can’t quite see the wound but blood soaks his entire chest. how the illustration is framed, him in the corner, almost like an afterthought. the way he’s presented as such a normal person, looking just like any other businessman you could run into on the street. it rips ace attorney away from its largely-unbelievable themes—spirit mediums, three-day-long trials, witnesses whose last names are puns—and sends it hurtling back into our world. it’s just so striking and sticks with you for so long after you finish turnabout goodbyes
Alright it’s theory time. (practically no spoilers I’d say).
This one’s a bit far out there but it’s been living in my head rent-free so it’s time to evict it to tumblr.
Satoru Hosonaga is Miles & Gregory Edgeworth’s ancestor. YES I SAID IT WAS FAR OUT THERE PLEASE LET ME FINISH
Okay, so if you can’t read the horrible low-res screenshot, the gist is that there are a couple visual similarities between them, being:
- All three have a sprig of hair that sticks up in the back. It’s unnoticeable from the icons alone (exception of Hosonaga), but from the sprites and in-game art both Edgeworths have that little tuft.
Also on the topic of hair, in the AA trilogy icon for Miles his hair color not only matches his father’s a bit more but also Hosonaga’s. (however in DD and SOJ it turns into a much lighter grey)
- All three have glasses. Granted, Miles gets his glasses later on in life, however it implies that they all have bad vision. Poor vision “tends to run in families”, however is not genetic.
- Both Gregory and Satoru have defined cheekbones. Miles doesn’t, however he is 100% related to Gregory so he is excused for this one.
- Not written on the image, however on the wiki their heights are all pretty close to each other.
Miles Edgeworth: 5′10′’; 178 cm
Gregory Edgeworth: 5′9′’; 176 cm
Satoru Hosonaga: 5′10′’; 178 cm
Granted, Hosonaga is from the late 1800′s/early 1900′s, so the height likely isn’t accurate. However, it is written on the wiki & supports my argument, so I will be taking it as canon despite its flaws.
THINGS CAN CHANGE THROUGH GENERATIONS. Miles and Gregory have vastly different hairstyles, and yet they’re still related. Skin tone can be accounted to lighting/health conditions. (Hosonaga has a colored background for his icon and also probably suffers from iron deficiency/anemia due to his constant coughing)
Now for personality, I’ll be going off of the Ace Attorney Wiki.
- All three are honest & hardworking.
- Professional/Serious demeanor. (Hosonaga has the wackiest disguises yet treats them all seriously & professionally so I guess.)
- Dedication to the truth. (it’s Ace Attorney what else would it be)
- Caring/Dedicating a lot for family/friends. (Miles to Phoenix, Gregory to his son & maybe Raymond Shields, Hosonaga to Asogi/Ryunosuke)
In conclusion, there is proof that Satoru Hosonaga is an Edgeworth.
Anyways, that’s the end of this theory. Personally, I quite like it, however I understand why many people would prefer other possible ancestors. Hosonaga is a background character that doesn’t have a lot of screentime, but he’s also one of my favorite characters in the whole of the Ace Attorney franchise and he deserves more love than he gets.

I was just thinking about Miles’ mom and…
“Are you crying from Ace Attorney sprites?”
“The way that our mannerisms are a reflection of the people we are surrounded by got to me.”
“All right.”
My beloved family!

We have moved past Maya and Franziska wingmanning narumitsu as a society. They would not fucking do that. We need to realise the truth which is that Larry and Gumshoe would try to wingman them and only succeed through failure
im in trials and tribulations, this is what the game its about, (w)right?
will powers being in universe a big ugly hairy guy (funny to a western audience who without fail go ‘hugh jackman !!’ upon first seeing will powers) in a show about fighting and his trial unmasking him and making him unpalatable as a male lead and getting him fired by global studios and then him being replaced within the year by a significantly younger public-facing pop idol whose show is about a love triangle is incredibly interesting to be an almost totally unremarked upon background event. same for investigations indicating that global studios went full scorched earth on nickel samurai after the engarde scandal not only dropping the character completely and going back to the steel samurai but turning to kaiju movies instead. creator of four hour ‘the nickel samurai: the boom and bust of a franchise’ video essay about how the lead being a murderer was really the least of the show’s problems revealed to be edgeworth wearing a steel samurai mask and using a voice changer after gumshoe walks through the back of a shot
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (1991) for the NES
It's fun to work with the color limitations of the NES, and also I'm a sucker for all-black UIs.
I made a font that matches the modern sans-serif style of the original but still fits into the one-letter-per-tile scheme, and I really like how it turned out.
Might make more AA stuff like this actually.

Imagine you’re Miles Edgeworth. The one person in your life who has contributed most to you pulling yourself together and becoming the best version of yourself is disgraced and disbarred. He refuses monetary assistance but you still visit from time to time. He’s cagey about it, but he’s clearly keeping up with the law and he’s obviously got plans, but you’re just glad he’s driven toward something.
Then one day you’re walking down the hall in the court house and as you pass one of the court rooms you hear a familiar cry of “objection!” You think to yourself “that can’t be right, he’s disbarred,” but you can’t bring yourself to dismiss the feeling, so you enter the gallery.
And lo and behold, Phoenix Wright is on trial for murder. And he’s currently accusing one of his legal counsel of committing the crime.
You are at once filled with the desire to punch your friend in the face, and a strange sense of nostalgic comfort. The second feeling only increases the intensity of the first.
POV: the guy in the office across from you is ordering pizza again ID: Ace Attorney Fanart; a digital painting of Miles Edgeworth. He is lying on the ground with his feet propped up on an office chair. He is holding the handset of an antique rotary phone in his right hand, the cord wrapping around the fingers of his left and finally leading to the receiver which rests next to his head. Miles is looking neutrally off to the side. [End ID]
