thank you doraemon <333
"Centipedes don't fuck" is one of my favorite animal facts. There are plenty of sexually reproducing animals that don't fuck per se (like a lot of fish) but centipedes don't even meet. Males just leave sperm packets lying on the fucking ground and females pick them up and take them home. They don't even hang out

for context’s sake: this is from JBVO, a show hosted by Johnny Bravo where you could call in and request your favorite episode of a CN show and Johnny would play it for you. for the most part it worked out pretty smoothly since at the time cn’s shows mostly had an average episode length of 7 to 11 minutes.
but one day a viewer requested that they play their favorite episode of dragon ball z, a show with 23-minute long episodes. due to time constraints with both dbz AND jbvo they had to work a compromise: a sped up version of the requested dbz episode played with johnny narrating over it so people understood what’s going on

I've said it before and I'll say it again: ship wars, pretty much by defintiion, cannot be won, because they're about personal preference, subjective analysis and transformative engagement, not definitive facts. Fandom isn't about competing to be right; it's about collaborating to have fun. Even a ship going canon doesn't inherently make it superior, because the point of fandom is to enjoy what compels you, and while it can be enjoyable (or deeply fucking frustrating, depending on the context) to try and predict what canon ships might eventuate down the line in an ongoing story, nobody's enjoyment becomes retroactively pointless if they back a non-canonical pairing.
But despite this, some people persist in treating shipping and fandom engagement, not as fun things to share with other people, but as a chance to Get A Good Arade In Having The Most Perfect Interpretation Of The Narrative, A Thing That Is Both Normal To Want And Possible To Achieve. As such, the idea that they can't definitively prove their ship or narrative interpretation to be Definitively Correct within a subjective critical framework distresses them - and so, instead, they reframe the debate as a moral one. Rather than arguing, "You can't ship X/Y, it's not as supported by the narrative as X/Z," they'll say, "It's immoral to ship X/Z; the only moral choice is X/Y." But because the works in question are fictional, the only way to make the moral proclamation relevant is to assert that fictional preferences are always the same as real ones: that there is no salient difference between liking something in a story and wanting it in real life. Shipping and fandom analysis thus become proxies for real-world morality - and yet, inevitably, even among people who share this illogic, shipping wars still continue; they just happen along moral axes instead of admitting to being based in subjective analysis and personal preference.
Which is how we end up with absolutely unhinged fandom arguments like "it's incest for those two unrelated people who weren't raised together to be in a relationship because they call each other sworn brothers," or "that ship is forbidden because one of them is 18 and the other is 17, which is an adult dating a minor and therefore pedophilic." It's got nothing to do with actual definitions of incest or pedophilia, let alone anyone defending them; it's an ass-backwards attempt to morally justify a particular ship or ships by discrediting all the others. That's it. That's literally it. And yet this way of thinking has become so widespread that it's legtimiately metastizing into genuine social malaise, incorporating elements of TERFism and Evangelical puritanism in a way that's causing actual, tangible harm.
All because some people couldn't stand the idea of other people making different fictional blorbos kiss in their mind palace.

a lot of these are unhinged yes but my favorite is putting 'japanese imperialism apologist' under 'antisemitic.' what kind of value system leads to that kind of nesting lmao.
like yes that was an axis power, but they did not give two shits about the jews?? wwii was. complicated. japanese fascism was heavily influenced by european thought, but it was focused on japanese issues.
in fact one of the more interesting psychological phenomena around fascist ideology in that period was how nazis and japanese fascists not uncommonly reacted like normal human people to one another's war crimes, on the occasion that they encountered them, because they were against people they did not themselves have any stake in hating and by institutions to which they felt no personal loyalty.
