Photo First: Light Captured as Both Particle and Wave

It’s one of those enduring Zen koans of science that we’ve all grown up with: Light behaves as both a particle and a wave—at the same time. Einstein taught us that, so we’re all generally on board, but to actually understand what it means would require several Ph.D.s and a thorough understanding of quantum physics.

What’s more, scientists have never been able to devise an experiment that documents light behaving as both a wave and a particle simultaneously. Until now.

Is the Canon AE 1 a Great Camera to Learn On? – A Review of One of the Most Trusted 35mm SLRs

Deciding which camera is great to learn on and which is not can be a bit of a cumbersome task; some might believe it is better to learn on more professional and sophisticated gadgets to get the full affect of film photography while others would say learn on easier devices. I think a bit of both is necessary. What makes a great beginners camera is the right amount of manual functions, but simplicity of functionality and use to ensure you’re not confused into giving up. Once you have the hang of the basic manual functions, you can always move on to greater things.

With this in mind, I find the Canon AE 1 can be a great camera for beginners. In a nutshell, it is a manual SLR camera which has a few automatic options as well thanks to its inbuilt micro-processor. Central Processing Units (CPU) were fairly new at the time that this camera was first released, which was around 1976, and this earned this model a lot of brownie points. The CPU means it can be combined with an FD lens to take advantage of its shutter priority mode, which is sort of a semi-auto mode, but more on that later.
