the girl who feels no pain

there's something about wedding dresses that irks pudding to no end ( possibly due to the last time mama forced her to wear one ) but even her can't deny there is some beauty in them. some brides would have elements of their culture embroidered in their veils, other colorful objects to hide underneath for good luck. the realization that she never got to have any of that hits harder than pudding would like to admit - a bride with no groom, a dress that means nothing if not for the stains of someone else's blood reminding her of innocence long gone.

          SHE WONDERS IF SHE LOOKS  far more terrifying in her mother's old wedding dress,  ripped and torn,  bones showing where there should be skin and the obvious wiggle room behind one of her eyes.  emily is a horrific sight,  dead girl surely aware of such facts.  if it was just that,  she thinks,  she would have perhaps been able to deal with being dead far more easily.  but she cannot feel heat,  cannot shed tears,  cannot  ...  live.  it does make sense,  it does not make it any less dreadful.    " i suppose it is a perk, to look gorgeous, even in death, "   emily tells the other,  because she supposes there's no need to hide what is obvious.   " but you do not need to lie. " 

          A BLINK, EMILY IS TAKEN  aback,  a sort of pout on her dark painted lips  ( it was the only color that would cover the blue ),  and she supposes he has a point :  in this masquerade plan of a living being,  she had planned her whole out fit from scalp to toe,  and yet it seems she's forgotten that alive humans can  smell.  a simple slip up,  but it still makes her stop and realize how  LONG  she's been dead,  doesn't it ?  that this is not her world anymore,  it had not been for a long time,  had it ?   " oh, yes. you see - i just came back from a funeral home ... for a tour, you see ! they were showing us how they prepare the dead for burial. "   nailed it,  he won't know anything different !
