draw stick figures. sing off key. write bad poems. sew ugly clothes. run slowly. flirt clumisly. play video games on easy. you do not need to be good at something to enjoy the act. talent is overrated. do things you like doing. it’s ok to suck

hey man it’s good to have a Bullshit Meter but when young or new artists are trying out edginess … just let them be, man. let them write fake-deep. let them draw OC’s that are half-demons tortured with their love of a person. let them sing songs about cigarettes and cold hands. let them be. it’s okay. you don’t need to police them, they’re just having fun exploring what it means to be an artist. it’s better to let them practice and get better than to stop them in their tracks because you want to be cool and funny. i don’t know. a lot of times young kids are working out real problems, and even if they weren’t? they’re just learning, man. let it be.

I’m so guilty about being a dick to budding artists when I was in high school. At this stage in my life though (currently an illustration major) I can’t express how important it is to let them figure things out without bringing them down.

I’d love to see the reactions to this from a crowd. I can kind of imagine a quiet, solemn understanding from the ladies and a lot of confused questions from the guys… If my memory of art school serves me.

reminder for people who have friends/partners with bpd: understand that there will be times where they will doubt your relationship. there will be times where they think you don’t care about them or love them. sometimes they will literally believe you hate them. when this happens, please give them as much reassurance as you can. as irrational and silly as it may seem to you, it feels completely real to them.
