I think what frustrates me the most is a lot of people are dismissing writing as an actual art form that requires skill and effort in favor of mindless stream of consciousness wish fulfillment, but they retain the like uncritical bibliophilia thats really popular on the internet? like no actually I don’t think reading through less nonsense makes you smarter or widens your perspective or makes you more empathetic I think those benefits come explicitly from meaningful critical thinking both on the author and readers part actually
People just be treating you like Google sometimes. You do a great service, don’t get me wrong, but some of my fellow askers should maybe take a peak at the FAQ or often just try googling things first, before asking you to do the labor of educating them on easily found things. Anyway just wanted to say thank you for your time and your wonderful lessons, you are really putting good into the world and have helped a lot of people!! :-) The emotional labor and time this sort of thing takes up has to be a bit taxing I’d imagine, so just wanted you to know you are appreciated ❤️❤️
I do wish people would look at my syllabus more often 😭 I think it's because the titles aren't like... One to one with people's questions. But there's so much in them 😭 so many things that lead to resources and also have perspectives on what's being asked. I know reading isn't the cool thing versus short form videos and such, but like. It's what I got 😅 I think if you can watch a 3 hour defunctland video, you can read a 15 minute lesson on a story YOU wanna write (and the antiracist I'm assuming you wanna be)!
Passed a group of Black kids being rude to the cops, that had them in a group after walking home from a pool for some reason. Had to make sure the cops knew people were looking at them. I hate that that's something that we have to be scared of 😭 like should the kids be aware that these are grown, armed adults that would want to kill them at a moments notice, so maybe shut up? Yes. Still shouldn't manhandle or kill them. Luckily, they dispersed and no one got hurt.
Seeing it was wild too because these kids, at oldest were like 12. Ranging in age. No adults nearby. And then there's three large, armed white men in hats. If you don't leave them damn kids alone to go run and scream and laugh. Gone!! Get!!
Is it okay to tell a Black person you know well that you like how their skin looks? I know it's kind of a weird thing to compliment since it's not something you have much control over besides basic skincare and ways of decorating that are obviously fair game to compliment. Not to mention all the weird discrimination going on about it.
Idk do you ever just look at something and think "that's a really nice color"?
Also worried it might come off as a bit of a weird/personal/even creepy thing to comment on.
Btw this blog is amazing, thanks for making it. There's a good chance you don't answer this (it's insane how many asks you answer. Hopefully it doesn't take up your whole day) but either way I really love it and it's inspired me to draw some more realistic Black characters.
I do think Black or at least darker skin than those tanned celebrities should become the beauty standard. A lot of people admire smooth, clear looking skin and the melanin makes inconsistencies like veins and moles less visible.
Just be normal and say "your skin is so lovely today, your routine is amazing!"
That's it, no need to comment on the shade, nothing. If she has a routine, she'll say it, if not, she'll say it's all natural and be even more flattered. There is NO NEED to say anything else lmao.
Think about it. If you don't bring up your beliefs on race when you comment on anyone else's skin, you don't need to do that for us. We didn't ask for an essay on your beliefs and the emotional weight of your confession on our spirits, we just wanted to hear that our skin looked nice today.
