TECHNICALLY, I could.

The problem is that none of my machines could even use that technology.

The obvious is the ones powered by Flickies. Organic creatures aren't powered by hamster wheels.

For every other robot, there is no analogue to their internal organs that can be cleanly made.

I place most of the electronics in the body, usually the easiest part to defend from most attacks. Sonic destroys the chest, motherboard stays intact because its in the best-defended part, I can repair it.

I would have to build future machines keeping in mind that their brain isn't located at the stomach, and the head is a horrible place to put the CPU.

If I'm going through that trouble, I might as well just make proxy bodies. That way i could keep control over the blueprints.

Then, no matter what, we still get to the problem of power, and you can see why I power the Death Egg with Chaos Emeralds, surely. Evil's fun, but you have to be realistic in your resource availability. Even with a spaceship.

I tried the metal virus once, I guess.

Then I realized, right then and there, turning people into robots is a HORRIBLE idea.

I had to use coal for the first time in my life to do that. And I use pure HYDROGEN energy.

No thank you, I like having a robot army that doesn't blow up a reactor by their continued existence.

Not to mention the laziness of it all. The virus bored me to tears so much I kind of loved the moment Sonic destroyed it.

Though, Sage did suggest something called a "kilt".
