A knock on your bedroom door startles you awake.
You blink a few times, staring blankly at the ceiling as you try to remember what time it is. The room is still dim, the curtains blocking out most of the morning light.
“Y/N, we're leaving for practice. Are you coming?”
Sophia's soft voice sounds through the door.
You let out a quiet sigh and reach for your phone on the bedside table. Your eyes barely focus on the screen as you unlock it and type out a quick response.
A few seconds later, the message goes through.
Then, you hear Sophia sigh on the other side of the door.
“You haven't been in a week,” she says, her voice slightly more concerned this time. “The girls and everyone else will start wondering what's wrong…”
You stare down at your phone, not knowing what to say.
There isn't exactly an easy way to explain why you've spent the last week hiding in your room.
You don't even understand it yourself.
Sophia pauses outside your door before letting out another small sigh. “See you later today. Bye. Love you.” You hear her footsteps slowly retreat down the hallway.A few minutes later, the sound of the front door closing echoes throughout the house.
And just like that, you're alone again. Your eyes immediately begin to blur. You quickly turn your face toward the pillow, hoping that somehow you can stop the tears before they fall, but it doesn't work.
You hate feeling like this.
You hate waking up every morning with that heavy feeling sitting in your chest. You hate that you've barely left your room in the past week. You hate that everyone is starting to notice.
But most of all, you hate that you can't seem to make yourself feel better.
Seonghyeon broke up with you because you were both too busy. His words, not yours. You'd tried to understand. You really had. You understood the late nights, the missed calls, the canceled plans. You understood that your schedules were both hectic and that sometimes there simply wasn't enough time in the day.
But understanding didn't make it hurt any less. You close your eyes and let out a shaky breath. Maybe in another life, you would've had more time.
Yoonchae looks around the room as she walks into the building, her eyes immediately searching for a familiar face.
Sophia walks up to her, adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder.
“She didn't come,” Sophia says.
Yoonchae's eyebrows furrow.
The concern on Yoonchae's face only grows.
“She hasn't been here all week.”
Sophia looks down at her phone, her thumb hovering over the screen.
She'd been worried about you for days now. Something was wrong. And whatever it was, you clearly weren't ready to tell them.
Keonho waves his hand in front of Seonghyeon's face.
Seonghyeon blinks, finally pulling his attention away from whatever had been occupying his mind.
“Are you good, bro?” Keonho asks, lowering his hand. “You've been zoning out more than usual, and you have no energy during practice.”
There's a hint of concern in his voice.
Keonho is actually a little worried about Seonghyeon. Not just because his lack of energy is affecting practice, but because something about him seems different.
He doesn't tell him that, though.
Seonghyeon sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “Yeah. I'm tired. I didn't get enough sleep last night.”
It's not a complete lie. He didn't really sleep much. Not when his mind kept going back to you.
Keonho gives him a sideways look, clearly not completely convinced.
He knows exactly what Keonho is thinking.
Seonghyeon has been distracted for days now. Ever since he broke up with you. Sometimes, he wonders if he made the wrong decision.
Maybe he shouldn't have broken up with you.
Maybe he should've just talked to you.
Actually communicated with you instead of making the decision on his own and convincing himself that he was doing the right thing. But then that voice in the back of his head reminds him that ending things was for the best.
That you were both too busy.
That your schedules never seemed to line up.
That you were constantly exhausted.
That he was constantly exhausted.
That you were both trying to balance your careers, your responsibilities, and somehow still find time for each other.
At least, that's what he told himself. But the reason he gave you should've been different. Because the truth was, your schedules weren't the real reason.
Seonghyeon had noticed how much you had been struggling lately.
And it wasn't just him who noticed.
Being a member of KATSEYE meant that you were constantly being watched.
Every little thing you did was judged by thousands of people online.
But lately, it felt like the hate had become even worse.
At least, that's how it seemed to him.
He'd noticed the way your smile would disappear whenever you looked at your phone.
He'd noticed how tired you always seemed.
How you spent hours training, pushing yourself harder and harder, even when you were already exhausted.
And somehow, despite all of that, you still tried to make time for him. You'd be exhausted after practice, yet you'd still find a way to call him. You'd have barely any free time, but you'd still try to see him whenever your schedules happened to line up.
Seonghyeon noticed everything.
And that's what scared him.
He thought he was making things easier for you. He thought that by taking himself out of the equation, you'd have one less thing to worry about.
One less person to make time for.
He thought breaking up with you was for your own good.
But little did he know...
And maybe, deep down, Seonghyeon knew that.
Because every time he thought about you, he missed you. Every time his phone buzzed, a small part of him still hoped it was you. Every time he saw something that reminded him of you, he had to force himself to remember why he ended things. He'd convinced himself that breaking up with you was selfless. That he was doing what was best for you.
And yet, he was the one who had chosen to walk away.
Seonghyeon lowers his head, staring at the floor beneath him.
He should've communicated.
He should've told you what he'd noticed.
He should've asked you how you were feeling.
He should've given you the chance to decide what was best for yourself.
Instead, he'd made the decision for both of you.
And now you're hurting. And so was he.
Since Seonghyeon clearly wasn't going to tell Keonho what was actually wrong with him, Keonho decided to gather the rest of the guys.
He walks over to where Juhoon, James, and Martin are standing together, lowering his voice as he approaches them. “What's up with Seonghyeon?” Keonho whispers. Juhoon looks at him, his eyebrows slightly raised.
“That's what I'm asking you.”
Martin glances over his shoulder toward Seonghyeon.
Seonghyeon is sitting a short distance away, staring down at his phone. He isn't actually doing anything on it. His thumb hasn't moved in at least a minute.
Martin turns back toward the others. “I think he's depressed.”
Keonho hums, looking back at Seonghyeon.
They all know something is wrong.
They just don't know what.
“We should all go out to eat tonight,” Keonho suggests. “Bill's on Martin.”
Martin's head immediately snaps toward him.
“We need to cheer him up. We should also bring Y/N.” He gives them a small, knowing smirk.
The reaction is immediate.
James' words make the other three turn toward him at the exact same time.
They all say it in unison.
Juhoon's eyebrows furrow. “What do you mean, they broke up?”
“He told me they broke up like last week, I think.” James shrugs, looking between them. Juhoon glances toward Seonghyeon before looking back at the others.
“He didn't tell us this.”
His voice is quiet, as usual, but there's clear disbelief in his expression.
Martin nods in agreement. “He didn't tell me either.”
Keonho stares at Seonghyeon from across the room. Suddenly, everything makes a little more sense.
The way he looked like he hadn't slept properly in days.
Keonho slowly looks back at the others. “So that's what's wrong with him.”
James nods. “I'm pretty sure.”
Keonho sighs. “Why didn't he tell us?” A few minutes turn into nearly an hour as James explains what happened—or at least, what he knows. The boys sit together, talking quietly while Seonghyeon remains completely unaware of the conversation happening across the room.
By the time they're finished, they've already started planning. They were going to figure out how to make their brother feel better. Even if Seonghyeon refused to tell them what was really going on.
Meanwhile, with the girls...
Manon knocks loudly on your bedroom door.
You jump at the sudden impact, your head snapping toward the door.
9:00 PM. why is someone banging on my door at 9.
“Baby girl, it's me, Manon!”
You hear her voice from the other side of the door.
“And the rest of us!” Megan yells from behind her.
You let out a tired sigh and run a hand through your hair.
Maybe if I stay silent, they'll leave.
You stare at the door. You don't have the energy to talk.
Not right now. Not when you don't even know what you're supposed to say. So you stay quiet.
Then you realize it's not 9:00 PM anymore.
You glance at the clock again.
For three hours, the girls have been sitting outside your bedroom door, taking turns knocking and talking to you.
You haven't said a single word.
And somehow, they still haven't given up.
“I don't know if you're still up,” Sophia continues softly, “but I'm sorry. I don't know what's wrong, but I want you to know we're all here for you. It's unusual for you not to talk to us,” she continues. “I'm here for you, love. Please talk to us. Or me, even.”
“I don't want you to go through whatever you're going through alone.”
“I'm here for you, okay?”
you don't even notice the tears beginning to fall.
One minute, you're staring at the door.
The next, your vision is blurry.
You quickly wipe at your cheeks, but more tears replace the ones you've managed to wipe away.
You don't know why you're crying.
Maybe it's because someone finally reminded you that you weren't alone. Or maybe you've just been holding everything in for too long.
Slowly, you push yourself off the bed. The blankets are tangled around your legs, and you have to stop for a moment to untangle yourself from them.
Your feet carry you toward the door.
You stop in front of it. Your hand hovers over the doorknob. For a moment, you hesitate. You could still turn around. You could climb back into bed.
You could pretend you never heard her.
But then you hear Sophia's voice again.
“I'm here for you, okay?”
Your fingers finally close around the doorknob.
Sophia immediately looks up.
The second she sees your face, her expression changes.
Before you can say anything, she pulls you into her arms.
You don't even hesitate. You bury your face against her shoulder as the tears you've been holding back for days finally come rushing out.
Sophia holds you tightly.
For the first time in a week, you let yourself cry in front of someone.
Eventually, she pulls back just enough to look at you.
Her hands gently move to your face, wiping away your tears with her thumbs.
“What's wrong?” she asks softly. “Please talk to me.”
You try to speak, but your voice catches in your throat.
“Seonghyeon broke up with me.”
Sophia's expression immediately falls.
“He said it's because our…” You pause, struggling to get the words out through your tears. “Our schedules are too difficult.”
Sophia doesn't say anything.
She just pulls you back into her arms.
And this time, you don't fight the tears.
It's been about a week since you've finally opened up to the girls. They've been trying their best to help you get your spark back.
They've dragged you out of your room.
They've made you watch movies with them.
They've brought you food, even when you insisted you weren't hungry.
They've done everything they could think of to distract you.
And, honestly? It has helped.
You aren't spending every second of the day locked away in your room anymore. You're laughing occasionally. You're talking to the girls again. You're slowly starting to feel like yourself. But no matter how hard you try, you still can't stop thinking about Seonghyeon.
Sometimes, you'll be laughing at something Manon said, and suddenly you'll remember a joke Seonghyeon once told you.
Sometimes, you'll be scrolling through the internet, and you'll see a video of him.
Sometimes, you'll wake up and, for one horrible second, forget that you're not together anymore.
while the girls are doing everything they can to distract you, Seonghyeon has been dealing with his own problems.
After nearly a week of watching him mope around, the boys had finally managed to force him into telling everyone about the breakup.
And apparently, they weren't going to let him live it down.
“So, like…” Martin pauses, staring at Seonghyeon. “You broke up with her, but you miss her?”
Seonghyeon stares at him.
Martin shakes his head slowly.
“It's not satire,” Seonghyeon mutters.
James looks between the two of them.
“It's really not,” Keonho says.
“You should've just told her instead of making the decision for her and breaking up with her.”
Seonghyeon's eyebrows furrow.
“I was trying to do what was best for her.”
“But you didn't ask her what she wanted,” Keonho immediately shoots back.
Seonghyeon opens his mouth.
Because he knows Keonho is right.
He just doesn't want to admit it.
Instead of comforting Seonghyeon like a normal friend would, Keonho proceeds to spend the next hour reminding him of every single thing he did wrong.
By the end of it, Seonghyeon is sitting there with his arms crossed, staring blankly at the wall while they collectively flame him.
“Okay,” Martin finally says, clapping his hands together. “I think we've established that Seonghyeon is an idiot.”
Seonghyeon glares at him.
The boys exchange glances.
If Seonghyeon wasn't going to fix his love life anytime soon, then at least they could try to fix his mood.
Martin suddenly sits up straighter and grins. And keonho nods his head at martin knowing
