“Weird, isn't it?” Chanse murmurs, before slotting himself into the free space next to Tommy. “I know you're probably used to this kind of thing, but Angela and I started here, so it's kind of…” he pauses. “I don't know. In-between states are weird.” Tommy's throat feels dry. He swallows. It does not help. “Yeah,” he feels prompted to say. “To be honest, I don’t think I'm used to it. I really thought we were gonna be here forever.” (It's a lie. More accurately, the thought of someplace new felt like a myth. A childish dream. Smosh is never exempt from the inevitability of good things coming to an end. He really thought he'd see these boxes in another kind of circumstance. A glummer one. Perhaps the preemptiveness of having these kinds of thoughts is more of a protective measure than something of true accuracy. Tommy doesn't know. Maybe he just wants order.)
