backyard kingdom shenanigans

* my hand healed up well :3

* my brother got a kitten! we’re introducing her to my cat n cookies very slowly. it’s going well so far!

* was off work bc of the hand so i’ve spent a lot of time remodeling the kingdom! helping make sure the cookies can stay dry during the rain and cool during the summer. also making things look prettier in general

* the salt and his knights found a new home! i thought they would want to move further away from town, but the salt wanted to stay in town to help the local cookies. they found a spot in a local park/nature reserve/biking trail path thing, n me and my brother helped move all the cookies over there. last i heard they’re doing well!

now, about that fount of knowledge:

afaik he’s one of the cookies that the salt freed during his escape from the shelter. i’d been keeping an eye on the surrounding blocks around the shelter looking for strays like him (and found a few!). i narrowed down a few hiding spots he hung around a lot to try to visit every day (though that wasn’t always possible due to work and other obligations).

he HAAAAAAATES humans. can’t be entirely sure why, but i can only assume his time at the shelter didn’t help. all the other strays i found i helped take home, but when i offered the same to him he ran off and i didn’t see him for a week! i don’t fully understand what makes a virtue corrupt, but the sheer amount of stress he was under and the fear and hatred he was displaying had me really concerned. and of course, i said the wrong thing and really started off on a bad foot with him rip

i took your advice though! kept myself small and nonthreatening whenever i visited n just kinda… talked at him. about my job, my brother, the cats, the cookies, etc. it took a solid week before i even could confirm he was still there, and another for him to start talking back (mostly just telling me to leave though lol). but i persisted!

my brother went to visit family for the weekend (and he’ll be gone for a solid week), so i brought up the idea of the fount moving into my kingdom. i figured he’d probably prefer coming over when there weren’t any unfamiliar humans around. he told me no initially, but changed his mind by the next time i visited him!

he’s in extremely poor health. i’m not sure he’s been eating (and i’ve been kicking myself for not having brought food once in the month i visited him), and his dough is incredibly fragile, though ive heard that’s somewhat common for founts? definitely had to bandage him up and give him some simple, easy to digest food when i got him home. the kingdom cookies are very curious about him, but i’ve told them to not ask him too many questions. he’s been settling in slowly though!

also the fount doesn’t have his staff? he hasn’t told me where or when he lost it, just that he has a “way to get it back”. i’m not really sure what he means by that, and basically everything he says right now sound bitter or ominous, so… guess i gotta just trust him on that.

overall though, things are going well! i’m gonna go check on the fount again and make sure the carrot and black raisin haven’t tried to put him to work yet, haha. hopefully the next update will come sooner than next month!

how to befriend a feral fount of knowledge? his hiding spot is a little out of the way from my home n route to work, so i can’t see him every day. also i think he hates humans? worried about possible corruption but i have confirmed he’s a fount!

anyways. cat kingdom anon again! the salt is free and back with his knights! i don’t know exactly what happened (again, i was definitely 100% uninvolved), but i do know that the knights (except for the salt cellar, who stayed with their cookies) went with a couple of the braver cookies who had been caught by cookie control before and were familiar with the layout of the building. the folks working there are clearly 1) undertrained deal with magic and 2) stressed about. well. everything happening with the CCA right now, so the knights were able to overwhelm them and free the salt, who in turn busted out a bunch of other cookies before escaping. some of the cookies were separated in the chaos, but there was definitely a bigger group of cookies than i was expecting when i found the knights.

once i did though, getting the salt to trust me was a bit harder than i thought it would be. i haven’t mentioned this yet, but whenever i visited the shelter, i’d play up the “first time cookie owner wanting a cookie that is more than they can handle” thing, since like. if i wasn’t scheming to get him back to his cookies that WOULD be the case. but that means the salt has only seen me acting as an impulsive, selfish, ignorant person who doesn’t see or care about him at all, which i meant that he didn’t trust me at all when i found him outside the shelter. and his knights didn’t even speak up for me! i didn’t realize just how loyal they were to the salt that they wouldn’t disobey him at all.

it took several very tense minutes of arguing with the salt and trying to hide from the cca folks looking for him, as well as getting stabbed in the hand, but i eventually convinced him that i was trying to help. he, his knights, and the escapees all piled into my car, and after a quick er trip (i ended up getting 5 stitches in my hand), i was able to reunite the salt and his cookies! the salt and i also briefly talked about moving the encampment somewhere safer, but my brother is currently out of town and i’d need both our cars to move the 30+ cookies somewhere. that’s something to figure out at a later date.

the salt focused on busting out other unlawfully seized cookies, so i also took them to their homes. there was a burning spice that had apparently been a herald prior to his capture, a lotus dragon that i got to hold for a little bit (and got the contact info of their owner so i can see them again. i need a dragon cookie so bad), an eternal sugar with a broken wing (i don’t know enough about wings to do much for her, but her owner took her to a clinic right away), and… what claimed to be a black sapphire who had shapeshifter into a shadow milk for a prank right before cookie control found him (i am not wholly convinced that he’s not actually a shadow milk pretending to be a black sapphire pretending to be a shadow milk though… he was a deeply confusing cookie) who let me take him home with no fuss! the salt reportedly busted out more than just those four, but i’m hoping they were able to make it home on their own… i might keep an eye on the area around the shelter though, just in case.

at any rate! all’s well that ends well, and this is definitely a good ending! i just need to find a safe place for the knights to move, and with their lord commander returned, i can stop driving out of town and save on gas money, haha!

and yeah, i was referring to ame, at least partially. i've seen other people have artifacts/soul jams, and some others who have also claimed to have transformed (though they are anons on other blogs haha), but ame's is definitely the most well documented! it was absolutely fascinating to go though their blog.

i have no idea when my endangered species license is going to be approved, which means i’m going to have to leave the salt of solidarity in the “care” of an agency that’s been - allegedly? i don’t remember what all colleen said and i’m not rewatching that clip - torturing silent salts for their own benefit. that salt looked like he was near corruption already… hopefully the new ceo will take the CCA in a new direction!

in the meantime, though… i’ll probably try calling the shelter about an early release again, but they’ll probably just say no again… i’m not really sure what to do.

oh, also, the kingdom was locked outside the night of the “incident” (bro had friends over), so they don’t know and i haven’t told them. do you have any suggestions about how to talk with them about this? most of them are adults, but the strawberry and wizard are younger, and i just… i dunno. they’ve already been through enough, i don’t want to put more on them.

next update… man, i really thought the salt saga was gonna be wrapping up soon, haha. i’ll update if any developments happen.

first off, a fortune teller moved into town! plus, that dark choco that’s been hanging around decided to finally stay! the more the merrier, though between the dozen plus cookies on my porch, the knights’ cookies, and all these license and adoption fees, i might need to pick up a temp job for a bit haha

i managed to get to the CCA center! it was a bit of a hassle, but honestly not as much as i was expecting based on some of the things i’ve heard. it just took a minute to get the right paperwork to the right person haha. i also asked about the shelter asking for the wrong licenses, but i got a more non-committal corporate response to that. after i filed for the endangered species license, i called the shelter and asked about an advanced release for the salt, since i’ve heard of that happening on occasion. they didn’t let me take him early though lmao, but they did say they’d “prepare” him, whatever that means. hopefully once my license comes in i can sign for him and take him home without any more trouble.

speaking of the salt’s home, i got a chance to talk with the knights! the salt cellar finally trusts me enough to tell me what happened with the salt - apparently they had a much more established fortress that cookie control raided. they took a LOT of cookies, and the rest had to flee. the knights tried to regroup and set up somewhere new, but cookie control kept finding them. the shed is their 3rd hiding spot. though they’ve managed to find just about everyone they lost! except for the salt ofc. according to the cookies that were taken by cookie control, the salt helped bust them out, which probably explains why the shelter is so hesitant to let him go, haha!

i asked her about moving somewhere safer and harder for cookie control to find. they’re hesitant to move again after getting such a large group of cookies together, but the salt cellar acknowledges that it’s only a matter of time before cookie control finds them again. i’ll probably have to talk about it with the salt, and that’s assuming i can get ahold of him in time…

oh! i almost forgot - i made a sideblog to post about my cookies! i’m at @cookie-cat-kingdom, which probably won’t link right bc i’m typing this up in my notes app while trying to install a pet door in the back door. i’m going to be busy this weekend (there’s a local festival, and i’m also working), so i thought it would be nice to give the cookies a way to get inside when i’m not there! it’s one of those smart doors that only open if a chip collar thing is present. i gave the burnt cheese the chip, and he’s really taken to guarding the door!

hopefully by the next update, the salt will go home!

cat kingdom anon again! i visited my local cookie shelter yesterday, and just like i suspected, they had a VERY mad salt of solidarity there. he sat and glared the entire time. can’t imagine why, surely being taken from your home and the cookies you care about wouldn’t make anyone angry (heavy sarcasm)

i asked about adopting him (or “adopting” him. going to be bringing him back to his cookies when i get ahold of him) and got the runaround about licenses. that’s actually why i sent that ask yesterday, i was told some weird things about em. the folks at the shelter told me i needed an endangered species AND a beast handling license for the salt? which doesn’t make sense to me, since even if he did corrupt, i wouldn’t need a beast license for a silent salt. they were also very rude about me being a “first time cookie owner” wanting a virtue and REALLY didn’t want to give me the paperwork for the licenses.

i did get the paperwork though, and weather permitting, i’ll be taking it to the nearest CCA center to try and get these licenses ASAP. i’m worried about the salt corrupting under the shelter’s “care”. i hope i can reunite him with his knights soon…

and speaking of, i’ve been thinking about helping the knights relocate? their current shelter isn’t exactly safe or sanitary. i’ve been too busy to see them this weekend, but i’ll ask them about possibly moving the next time i visit. my brother and i both have cars, so we should be able to move all of them at once, whenever we find a place for them. they definitely can’t live on my porch though, there’s way too many of them!

other than that, things have been smooth sailing in the kingdom! we’re staying safe and dry. if i weren’t on anon, i’d attach a pic of the fig cuddling with my cat. the wizard likes him too!

Sighhhh of COURSE that shelter has to be negligent and not do their research

To care for a Virtue, you will need an endangered species license, since Virtues are far less in number than their Beast counterparts and even their variants. You'll also need a Beast license, not because it's required by law, but as a safeguard in case the Virtue corrupts out of your control.

so after we got everything smoothed out with the knights, i offered them help with anything they needed before they left. the weather has been pretty unpredictable here, but it’s slowly climbing up to summer weather, and i’ve been making sure my cookies have ways to stay cool and dry. i wanted to offer that to the knights. they have been saying that they have somewhere they could take the kingdom, which made me wonder if there were other cookies they were already caring for.

the knights did accept my help, mostly just asking for food n medical supplies n whatnot. also blankets, which surprised me a bit since it’s warming up, but i still had plenty of scrap fabric to make some from (i used to sew a few years back). they’d come back every few days asking for more stuff. and very recently, i convinced them to show me their hideout!

they brought me to a rundown shed on an abandoned piece of property just outside town. it was a really long walk, i ended up having to call my brother (whom i live with and has been too busy job hunting to bother with this cookie stuff) to pick me up.

there were…. so many cookies. at least two dozen. most of them weren’t doing great. skinny, sick, malnourished, stressed…. i nearly called cookie control to pick these guys up! but they were clearly scared of me, so i figured they’d had bad experiences with humans in the past & wouldn’t appreciate that. some of them warmed up to me when i started passing out the jellies i’d brought and helping bandage up the worst ones.

the whole thing seemed to be run by a salt cellar. i didn’t see a salt of solidarity or a silent salt there at all; the knights said they’d had a “lord commander” but that they hadn’t seen him in weeks. they’ve been pretty lost and scared without a proper leader.

so i guess i’ve committed myself to helping these guys too now? i’m still not super sure how to handle this whole new colony, but they’re a lot more self sufficient than my backyard kingdom. hopefully once their immediate physical needs are taken care of (food, health, etc), they won’t need as much of my help.

oh! on a lighter note - i saw a wizard cookie with the knight’s cookies! i knew that wizards and strawberries tend to get along, so i offered him a place in the kingdom. he’s been adjusting well so far! and i think strawberry is happy to have a friend too.

that’s all for now. i guess i’m gonna be keeping my eyes out for a salt? with how cookie control has been acting lately, i might have an idea of where he ended up….
