Hi I'm sorry to ask so many art questions (I've asked the past few ones) but I love the way everything is colored how do you guys harmonize your colors so well in the newer pages?? Is it an overlay or are you picking colors yourselves and harmonizing them that way?
Hello again! Welcome back!
Each scene we create, we make color concept art to keep colors consistent.
As you can see, we have two sets of concept art here. The second one is base color only-- that's what Erisek looks like without any lighting or filters.
The first one is our color concept art for the scene being shown in the newest panels. In the background, you can see that we keep two things consistent-- the closer the foliage is to the foreground, the greener and darker it gets, while foliage far off blends into the orange horizon.
Every panel made for this scene uses the same colors and concept art. Any gradients or filters added are added based on the panel itself and whether its needed.
Prepping beforehand makes panel creation consistent and manageable. Always remember to plan ahead!

Hi I'm the same person who asked about colors before and the response was super helpful! I do have one more question
What about shading and gradients? Cause I think the shading and gradients also really help everything tie together super nicely so I was wondering how you guys do shadows and when you use gradients and things thank you again :))
Another really good question!
When it comes to shading and gradients, we usually base it off of two factors: What are our main two colours, and how do they interact with eachother?
For example, the image above uses brighter oranges as highlights, and darker purples as shadows. Orange & purple are complimentary colours, and work well with eachother alongside an accent of green.
With shading, you always want to look for a source of light. Sometimes you'll have to sacrifice perspective or detail to simplify the source of light enough in this limited format.
Alternatively, shading can be used solely as a narrative mean. The shading/gradients in the gif above are opposites-- on Khorda's side, the light comes from above, while on Coxxon's side, the light comes from below. This reflects their expressions and background environments, creating contrast.
I try not to overuse gradients in my artworks, but I admit I like to go overboard on the details sometimes. As for gradient maps, with such a two-tone style such as this one, I suggest utilizing them to their fullest extent!
Hopefully this was as helpful as the last one was. Thanks for your interest!
Not necessarily an ask but I adore you guys color palletes so much for both scenes and characters can I ask what you guys do to make the colors so cohesive and nice to look at when together
(If that's too long an answer then you're free to just take the compliment I'm very excited to see where this goes so far)
Apologies for the late response!
I'll be answering this. My name is Eli, and I'm the art director & co-director of Convermity! When it comes to choosing colours, I mostly approach it like this-- what main aspect of this character/scene do I want to show, and how can I make it pop?
For trolls, I consider this process pretty easy. Unless you abide by the "trolls don't wear colours casually" rules of Alternia, you're usually going to want the main colour of your troll to be their blood colour. What's some complimentary colours to teal? Orange & pink! Khorda's pants and glasses are these colours to bring more attention to her chest and her sigil, which are teal in comparison.
Scenes are a bit different. Those I usually choose complimentary colours for and work entirely off of that. Once again, Reds/oranges and teals. Much darker this time, though, as this takes place at night.
A lot of the time, when drawing items in the background that get further away from the camera, I usually tend to use a lower-opacity brush to let the items farther away blend into the background scenery. This usually results in a smooth transition from the colours in the foreground, pulling your attention, and the colours in the background, muddying together to hide away from focus.
I hope this helps! Thank you for the question!
