A DAILY DOSE OF MY INSPIRATION

One of my close friends battled depression as a result of a senseless act of violence, which led me to do my research on the implications of criminal activities and mental health disorder within the Canadian society.

Annually, one in five people in Canada experiences a mental health problem or illness, yet only one in three adults who experience a mental health problem or illness, and as few as one in four children or youth report that they have sought and received services and treatment. The vast majority of people living with a mental health condition are not involved with the criminal justice system. In fact, they are more likely to be victims of violence, yet 69 percent of criminal incidents were not reported to the police in 2014 according to statistics Canada.

My business partner and I have created a mobile safety and security app to help with these issues, called Security Gaze. Our mobile app will:

1.)    Report crimes with included evidence (audio, picture and video) directly to the authorities.

2.)    Create mental health awareness, and use this platform to assist people experiencing mental health crisis with urgent and emergency access to crisis care.

Security Gaze’s goal is to make a positive influence in Canada’s mental health and criminal justice landscape, by creating an app that will empower us all to help our communities.
