Going to work at the thrift store on a Saturday morning
I have three jars of jam in my bag
And a pack of mint chewing gum
To hide the fact that I didn't brush my teeth
Just in case my boyfriend comes to see me
I don't want him to know im hanging by a thread
My aunt will come for two jars of jam
And my boss will take the third
After she takes the shop cat to the vet
And I will be alone most of the day except for the customers
How do I explain to my therapist that im not having a crisis, my life is an ongoing crisis?
This isn't even rock bottom. She just hit me weird with the concern in her voice and stuff and made me cry.
Anyway I had to do a crisis assessment.
She asked if I wanted to be hospitalized.
Like, no, that would make everything so much worse, I would rather kill myself? I need to simply things not complicate everything. Thanks but no thanks.
The thrift shop cat came back from surgery today
She claimed the donated chair that was supposed to be mine
We're talking about re-upholstering it for her
In purple velvet of course, because she's a princess
September 13, 2025
my friend died today
and it rained
and there were red leaves on the sidewalk
and I didn't find any butterflies
the library didn't have wifi
and the cat wouldn't take her medicine
and I bought a soap dish that looks like a frog
and I want to cry, but I can't cry
instead I have a migraine
its going to rain again
and we need the rain
my friend died today
and the sky is crying
but I am not
I am holding my head in my hands
and there is pain in my eyes but no tears

New Earrings
Last week a hawk killed one of my chickens. In the evening when I went to lock the coops, I counted my chickens and came up short. After a brief search I found her. The hawk had plucked the feathers out of her neck and eaten her neck flesh and then part of her chest.
She was a Silver Laced Wyandotte. I made myself earrings from her feathers. Life is brutal.
I may never find love again, but I can plant a tree.
I can plant as many trees as I want, and I can grow a garden. And I can make friends with the girl who collects bones, and teach her how to pin butterflies. I can crochet badly with too many colors, and I can have a secret CD I play in the car just for me.
I may never find love again in a man, but does it really matter? The trees will still be growing when I am old and gray. And I will drink tea in a wonky sweater that I made myself.
Dating rules are arbitrary. You really can date that older guy who's twice your age, just because you think he's fascinating and he has a cool collection of skulls.
And he'll get tears in his eyes when he's drunk and he tells you how he thinks you deserve better than you've gotten in life.
I am sitting on a second hand end table outside, using the thrift store wifi, studying crowcore and goblincore on Pinterest. I want to take bits and pieces of unwanted stuff and make beautiful things, even if nobody understands.
I will walk across town now, and buy a rabbit skull, and pick up any shiny rocks I see along the way.

imagine dating me, and thinking I'm cheating on you, but really I'm spending my spare time learning how to make origami stars.
I'm searching for the red flags, my last relationship had more red flags than a communist parade.
I don't know quite how to act. How do normal people do relationships?
I'm trying to read this guy, but I don't know if I can trust myself. My perception was he was very clear and concise, and very respectful.
But what if my perceptions are so distorted that I can't distinguish between crumbs of respect versus respect by the loaf?
Why do I feel like I have to do a danger assessment, to decide if I feel safe enough to proceed?
Ugh, I wasn't ready to start looking for something new, why does something have to come up out of nowhere?
itâs okay to mourn lives you will never get to live even if youâre grateful for the life you are living now
If youâre loved from the start, it gets stored in your cells, your brain recognizes it as the correct way for you to exist, and you donât even get to doubt it; you seek it out as your birthright. When you donât have it, your brain recognizes neglect and abuse as the âcorrect way for you to existâ and you try and reprogram it, tell yourself thousand times itâs not supposed to be like that, youâre supposed to be loved, youâre supposed to be cared for, but you have no way to seek it out and have it, so itâs just struggling with your thoughts, all on your own. Feeling like youâre deluding yourself because surely if it was right and correct for you to be loved, you would be loved, at least for some part of your life, at least by someone. Youâd at least have memories of how it felt, how correct it was, and youâd know what kind of situation you want to put yourself in, so youâd have that again.
But without it, youâre just blind without a map, telling yourself something you never experienced should and does exist, you only have no idea where to get it, or how to find it. And, if you do get closer to it, youâll get uncomfortable and triggered and feel desire to leave. And you have to get out of it, because itâs part of your stability to get away from highly distressing situations, you canât afford to be in distress that high.
Finding ways to feel like you have the right to be loved, is something complex and hard, that doesnât come easily to those abused and unloved. Itâs the one thing we have to teach ourselves over and over, and it still only works when other people agree, and put effort into being there for us, being willing to undo some of the damage done. Youâre not to blame if you cantâ figure it out, or do it alone. If you struggle with relationships and friendships and feeling worthy, itâs absolutely not your fault. You were put in a situation where this would be hard. If you can only handle little bits and pieces, thatâs okay. This is something other people are responsible for as well.

Abusers will fill your mind how thing would be so good for you, if only youâd be more understanding, more obedient, more allowing, more non-offended at their insults, more forgiving. They build up this idea that every misstep of theirs only happened because you did something first, you assumed something, you misunderstood, you didnât give them enough to feel safe and free. You made them act out because you didnât give them enough safe space to be themselves.
So abuse victims can go forward thinking that this is how you make people good; you love them unconditionally. You always assume the best of them, you allow them missteps and forgive them, you give 100% of your energy to them. Youâre always excited to be with them, you never judge them, never judge their actions, only their intentions. You show them that they will be understood and loved and listened to, no matter what they do, almost like a child. You give them freedom to be themselves and show them that theyâre safe to open up, safe to express, safe to ask for whatever they need and safe to love you back.
And if something goes bad, then this is your fault; you didnât do enough. Because if you did, that person would be sweet and loving  and kind. You take responsibility for their actions, they donât take responsibility for anything. You get to feel bad when they hurt you, because it was on you to prevent it, even though it was unpreventable.
Abusers claim that someone having bad assumptions about them, is what makes them act out and act unkindly, theyâre punishing those people for assuming bad things, and why should they act nice if people are going to assume bad stuff? They frame it as if the assumption is what made them bad. The truth is, no assumption you could have about anyone will affect their behaviour. If you assume someone is a bad person, and theyâre not, then the time will show the reality of the situation. A good person will not start acting out to âpunishâ the assumption maker, theyâll keep being good to prove the assumption wrong. Acting out to 'punishâ the assumption is something we allow to children, not adults. Every adult understands itâs immature and counter-productive to fight assumptions with even worse actions, and that kindness is not rewarded with positive feedback every single time. They also understand that acting cruelly and viciously will not be rewarded with positive feedback. They know itâs unreasonable to ask for it, they know theyâre doing it just to push blame on the victims, for their own behaviour.
Giving abusers endless positive reinforcement ends up with them turning into the worst versions of themselves. Them feeling safe means they can now revert to their most selfish, unkind and sadistic selves, and they will not be judged, and all their sins will be forgiven. Theyâll want you to feel safe to open up as well, but only so they could use the most vulnerable and intrusive info about you to hurt you when you try to hold them accountable for their behaviour, or when you try to stand up to their opinions and orders.
You canât give abusers enough love and kindness to turn them good. It has been tried endless times, and it turns into the same exploitative, cruel and abusive situation. They will never have enough, and nothing will ever be enough. Theyâre not after love, theyâre after control and superiority. They will not love you as their equal, you can only be a toy. And when youâre broken, theyâll seek out a new one. Nobody deserves to be put thru that. Nobody deserves to be abandoned and devalued after putting their best into the relationship.
I've been left vibrating with the possibilities. "let's try seeing each other outside of work" and "we can see if it develops into anything" have got me stirred up.
I'm trying to read between the lines here.
He didn't say he has feelings for me, simply acknowledged that there were possibilities.
He didn't miss a beat, two sentences after he found out I was single he was asking. Perhaps, being older, he has learned to take opportunities as they come. Perhaps he lives with less regrets that way.
He left the offer open, took into consideration when I said, "it's only been since January, and I don't know where I'm going with my life from here" counted the months on his fingers, as if to say, yes, you might need a little more time, but I am patient.
He left me without trying to set a date or time, knowing that we'll see each other again, soon enough I guess. But living in a world where most communication is instant, being left without an open line is a feeling I'm not used to. I'm hanging here on the edge of something, something that doesn't have to be anything, but could be something.
I'm left wondering how he is feeling, whether he's been thinking about this all weekend too, feeling like he's left hanging on the possibilities. I'm wondering whether he surprised himself by asking, although he didn't seem surprised that he asked, that felt deliberate, but maybe surprised that the opportunity presented itself. I could tell he was trying to think on his feet, and trying to be gentle about it.
But here I sit all flustered and no outlet, just this confounded waiting.
