The fact that the authors of the Magisterium seires decided to cop-out at the last minute and have Constantine not actually be the Enemy of Death and instead pull some random evil mage from way back in history who had one line of mention in the entire series was the absolute worst decision ever.

The fact that Call is supposed to be some reincarnated evil mage from centuries past instead of Constantine, the kid who was implied to have been orphaned with his brother, neglected by the Magisterium, abused Joseph as well as having unreasonable expectations put on his shoulders was ridiculous and made no sense.

Instead of actually making the story have depth and meaning like ‘hey you don’t always get both sides of the story, here’s what really happened’, and ‘oh yikes turns out the Magisterium was actually a trash heap who created their own enemy because they couldn’t be bothered to recognize and stop child abuse, and even though murder is wrong Constantine had a valid reason for turning ‘evil’.

You want a compelling villain? Tell me how the organization that said they would teach and protect this child turn around and use him for their own means until he’s twisted up inside and then instead of trying to help they try to imprison him.

Then have him reincarnated and do the same thing over only this time his reincarnation (Call) calls them out on their bullshit, refuses to bend, and overthrows the Magisterium for their fearmongering and all-around abuse.

So....I finished The Golden Tower

This will be kinda a review of the whole series. Attention: Spoilers ahead!

When I got the silver mask for my twelfth birthday I did not sign up to have my heart shattered into pieces. This is actually the first book series where I had to wait for the release of the new books and I actually really liked that. You had time to come up with your own theories and headcanons and fall in love with the characters. So since the first book Aaron was my favorite character and I was really not prepared for his death in the third book. And as he came back I was so glad! And then he died again...I cried two times because of one character! Oh and then he came back again and I had really mixed feelings about it. So as I came up with headcanons and theories I quickly fell in love with a second character: Constantine Madden! He was by far one of the best villains I've ever read or seen in any piece of media. Why? He was so relatable! Everyone comes to a point in life where they lose someone really important to them. And I believe that many would take the chance to do something about it if they knew they had a chance to bring them back to life. He seemed to really be guilt-trapped into it by Master Joseph and even himself. And everything he did later was because he wanted to fix what he did. I knew that he had to appear at some point at the series, either in Call's memories or somehow else. I actually guessed it was going to be a Jekyll and Hyde kind of thing and I was sure it would happen in The Silver Mask, because the title screams Constantine. But the only thing we got was Jericho's diary, which didn't appear at all in tgt! It really seemed out of character for Con to systamtecally kill his brother, because it was established before that he loved Jericho more than anything else. That was his whole motivation! For once it wasn't his ambition or his need for power, but the love to his brother that inspired him, that made him in my eyes really stand out among other villains. But that's a whole story on its own. Anyway I was looking forward to The Golden Tower because I thought it has to happen now! Something has to happen now! And as I reached fifty percent of the book at my e-book something did happen! But it wasn't at all what I expected. Now! In the last book. Without the slightest clue that something in that direction might happen, I'm introduced to Maugris's memories. I literally cried about someone who was already dead! Con was nothing more than a victim himself! Sure, he did some things of his own, for example creating the first chaos ridden but it wasn't him who fought the war. It wasn't him who's responsible for the cold massacre! I had to put the book down for a couple of hours to calm myself down. And as I picked it up again I prepared myself for Call's reaction. Surely he would be freaking out about this, right? No. From the nect chapter until the very end it was mentioned once! ONCE! No angst, no considering what this meant about him! Don't get me wrong, I overall liked the book! But this part was terrible! And since the authors really seem to not care about this series we're probably never going to get a sequel or a prequel or anything! The end was really unsatisfying. I still have so many questions and they are never gonna be answered now.

Overall, The Magisterium series still is one of my favorite books of all time and they will always have a special place in my heart.

I will probably post a lot of Magisterium stuff in the next time, because that's my way to cope with it.

The villains in the Magisterium series

I've actually really liked the most of the villains but there's something that really bugs me: Why is it just Alex now? I mean in the TIT we got introduced to our first antagonist, Jasper. He's now definitely on the good side and I'm really glad he is, he's such a great character. Then we hear of The Enemy of Death aka Constantine Madden. In my opinion the best villain of the series and one of the best villains I've ever read (even though he doesn't even really show up). He's got a good motive, a believable backstory and reasoning and isn't just "evil". I'm pretty sure he's also convinced that he himself is the good guy. I was so looking forward to see him as a character. Then came the plot twist and we still didn't get to see any kind of memories and such and I'm really disappointed at that. The next ones we got were Drew and Master Joseph. I really liked Drew as a good guy as much as a villain and he also had believable motives and such. And Master Joseph. He doesn't have as good motives as the others (because he's just power, power, power) but I love how he's so manipulative towards Constantine and how he tries to stay loyal to Call. I loved him as a villain! And then came Alex. I don't know why, but I'm not terrified of him like at all. The only thing he tries to do is to become like Constantine and completely misses the point because Constantine just wanted his brother back, not power. I get where he's coming from. Joseph doesn't care about him, his stepmum values Call more than him but he's just not the kind of guy who should be the main villain. I would have loved to have Joseph or Constantine as the main bad guy but it seems like we'll just get to see more of Alex and that's it and that annoys me. Your thoughts?
